I just had to leave Dr. Gates office because I am so upset. When I arrived they told me I'd have to pay an additional $40 for the doctor to use a new high-tech piece of equipment to make the exam better and easier. I said I didn't want to use the high-tech piece of equipment and I wanted a traditional exam and prescription. Dr. Gates rushed to the waiting room stood over me told me that he would not see me unless I paid the extra $40 not covered by my insurance insurance. He said he was not going to let his practice be run by insurance companies. I said I didn't have the additional $40 in my budget and he didn't care. I asked if all the Target optometrists require this additional payment and he said no that I could make an appointment at one of the other Targets. He also tried to tell me it was a copayment, which is not true. My insurance company does not require a copayment for optometrists. When I first made my appointment on the Target website, nothing was mentioned about the additional $40 fee that Dr. Gates charges. I only received a text one day before saying that I would be offered the new technology at a $40 fee. Nowhere did it say it was required. I would suggest you go to other Targets in the Richmond area

I was very impressed with my experience w Dr Gates. He was very professional and thorough and had the highest technology. The optometry store connected has an excellent collection and is very knowledgeable and it has great style. I stringly recommend them both.

Dr Gates is amazing. I was super slack about seeing the eye doctor and using an old, old pair of glasses with an ancient prescription when I'd finally had enough. My appointment went great and he took the time to explain my prescription change and suggest the right glasses for me based on my activity level and vision impairment. I have had a lazy eye all my life and therefore been in and out of the eye doctor since I was little and never once has an eye doctor explained things the way Dr. Gates did. I'm super thrilled with my new prescription and will be sure to go to my appointment next year, which is already scheduled (yay, convenient!), to be sure to stay on top of my eye health. As I understand it, Target Optical next door will discount you on glasses if you bring your Rx from the office but I chose to go online and had no issue.

Dr. Gates and his staff made for an enjoyable experience. They took the extra time needed to accurately diagnose my 8yr old, and were super fun about it. He had a trauma free experience. As for my visit, I couldn't be more happy. I usually end up with glasses that aren't the best, but will do because they're close enough. But this prescription was right on point. First time ever! Thanks so much to this office. We will be back!

I wouldn't normally post a review of something like this, but I just had the best service with Dr Gates. I visited him at the Target location - booking the appointment was super easy, I hardly had any wait time, and the entire appointment was quick and easy. I was in and out in less than 45 minutes.

Dr. Gates is fantastic! I haven't seen this well in 30 years. He also explained how to work on my dry eyes that I have had issues with for years and after 4 days of following his advice my eyes feel great.

Amazing!!! A wonderful experience.
