Benson William H MD

I recently moved to the Richmond area, I made an an appointment with a hospital here and they gave me an appointment with this doctor William Benson. I read the reviews about him some of them bad, but I thought, I was going to have a better experience, but no I find him to be somewhat dismissive in that he told me that he can't do anything for my problem and he was not going to schedule me for another visit, that means ever. I have been told that my condition should be monitored for any changes at my previous eye doctors they would schedule me once to twice a year just to know if anything had changed that needed to be addressed I was also told at my previous eye doctors to call their office if I notice any problems with my vision or severe pains in my eye which could be a sign that my condition had become become worse, which Dr Benson did not say that either. he answered any questions that I had and that was it walked out of the room. I was not referred to another doctor to be monitored .So I'm going to go back to my previous doctor who is located an hours drive away from where I now live because I know they took the time to monitor my condition and show concern. I'm not one of those people that just take a doctor's opinion but I go out on my own to fine the best things that can treat my condition or ease any pain that I have may have from it and I go where I can receive help I would suggest that others do the same if you receive the same don't care attitude Don't let your problems get worse because he thinks nothing of it, go to someone else and monitor your conditions because it could save your eyesight and or your peace of mind.

If you're having a problem with your eye, this is the doctor to see. We were referred to Dr Benson by another doctor regarding my daughter. The first doctor told us it could be cancer in her eye. Dr Benson knew immediately that that was not the case and put our minds at ease with a confident and thoroughly explained diagnosis. We were immediately set up with a treatment plan. He was extremely kind and generous with my daughter and very understanding with her father and me. His bedside manner was outstanding. He always took time to reassure my daughter and communicate thoroughly with me and her father at every step. I would recommend anyone to see him.

Drove 2-hours, waited over 1-hour. Seen for 5mins. Obviously had not read the referring doctor notes. Asked why we were there!

Posting for my mother, a verified patient... Dr Benson was the most arrogant and condescending and disrespectful doctor I have ever met. He criticized my last optho doctor from DC that had referred me to him, basically said they took me for my money and he, Dr. Benson, had nothing to offer me. He said he couldn't do anything for me, said he knew nothing about my history because he didn't have my records ( I informed him then that I had faxed records myself to his office and brought them with me and given them to his assistant ahead of time. ) His follow up comment was " well I only have 10 minutes per patient, I don't have time to review records." He thhen told me my eyes were too small and deep set to help me with my lens, he could offer me nothing and I should seek another opinion from another doctor. He told me nothing could be done for my condition, he would not prescribe me the drops my other doctor had put me on, surgery would not help so he could offer me nothing. ( I have a very painful eye condition that is controlled with something called a bandage lens but he doesn't do anything with those.) He criticized me for having surgery last year at the recommendation of my optho in the DC area and then moving a year later because " why would you have surgery knowing you were going to move?" I felt like a shamed scolded child and left in tears wasting my time and money. I have seen many many doctors through my life, my daughter was with me who is a doctor and tried to talk to him and we both left this appointment just stunned and speechless. Find another doctor.

Dr Benson does not listen, is arrogant which causes him to misdiagnose. Went to Mayo Clinic to find that my vision loss in one eye was due to drug interactions that could take the vision in the other eye since Benson did not even check my medications!! HACK

I've been seeing Dr. Benson for years. He is very knowledgable, and I've always had a great experience at my office visits. Great staff as well. (Stony Point location)

Wonderful experience dealing with Dr. Benson. Very professional bedside manner and great treatment plan.
