I had a wonderful experience at Dr. Gates Optometry. The service was excellent from start to finish, and the entire team was incredibly helpful in addressing my eye care needs--especially as I navigate changes with aging eyes. Everything was explained clearly, and I felt genuinely cared for throughout the appointment. I also really appreciated how kind and understanding they were when I arrived about 10 minutes late. They were so sweet and accommodating, which made the whole visit feel even more positive and stress-free. Highly recommend!

Great location, lively area. All staff were very warm and hospitable. I felt welcomed as a first timer Dr. Gates was also nice and well thorough with the eye exam. Will come back next time!

This place is fantastic. I was visiting for the holidays and needed a last minute eye exam because I ran out of contacts and my script was expired. Dr. Gates was able to fit me in last minute and was so kind and helpful. Suzanne helped me pick out new frames and her optometry shop is so beautifully decorated. She also serves herbal tea from a local vendor and it's incredible!!! (hemlock & key is the tea brand). I can't recommend this place enough!!! Thank you Suzanne and Dr. Gates

Intimate customer service that is uniquely Carytown and old Richmond, VA. Women owned and operated business. Everyone is down to earth and concerned about finding the customer a great pair of eyeglasses. Extreme variety of styles. Fashionable choices and environmental friendly options. My frames were made from recycled materials from the Japanese company iGreen. Not a corporate chain! Mr. Gates the optometrist is amazing as well, mild mannered and accepts walk-ins and appointments.

Dr Gates is the best. He is extremely thorough and explains everything. The staff is top notch. Highly recommend!

For me anyway, 5 stars. I had my semi-rimless glasses break and for the cost of the frames they restrung my lens to the frame, within an hour. As I need to drive for work. Well, it was much needed for me. Also, got an exam and the doctor was personable. In short: Above and beyond service for my experience. Give 'em a look see.

Dr. Gates and Suzanne always make this annual appointment easy and enjoyable--friendly, swift, and they really want to ensure I'm seeing better. (Which is kind of the point.) Plus it's an affordable appointment, and they remember me from year to year.
