The best of the best. Magnificent, talented physicians. The office staff are courteous and efficient. Recent visit had me arriving several hours earlier than my appointment, my error. No worries, we'll take care of this and I was heading to the back for testing. These physicians have been taking care of my extended family for many years. When scary things happen to your eyes, these are the physicians you will want to take care of you. I feel blessed to be their patient.

An office you can trust to have"your" best interest at heart. They do everything they can to help you mend difficult eye issues. I am thankful to be a patient here. They are as happy about improvement as I am. A rare find in this world. Dr Astruc is by far, the best retina doctor. His entire staff is wonderful. I was diagnosed with a macular hole in November 2024 and referred to Dr. Astruc. The entire experience with the practice and Dr. Astruc has been amazing. He is very attentive and most of all very personable. A doctor that listens and shows true concern on day one is the type of doctor you want to have in your corner. Dr. Astruc and his staff at RIV are highly recommended.

First time seeing Dr. Astruc. Everyone at the practice is so pleasant and nice. April explained even the basic routine stuff in detail. No long wait times. Dr. Astruc wasn't rushed and took the time to answer questions and explain the situation and concerns in an empathetic caring manner. Glad I switched from VA eye institute which had become like a factory these days.

Dr. Juan A. Astruc, Jr., a Richmond native, lives with his wife and four children. He earned a B.S. in Business from Virginia Tech and a Medical Degree from the Medical College of Virginia, where he also completed his Internal Medicine internship and Ophthalmology residency. He pursued a fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal Surgery and Macular Diseases at Vanderbilt University with Dr. J. Donald M. Gass. Board-certified, he is a fellow of the AAO and a member of ASRS. He served on Virginia's DMV Medical Advisory Board (2006-2016) and specializes in retinal detachments, ocular trauma, macular surgery, vascular diseases, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration.
