Randall C. Paul, OD

This review is not on Dr. Paul, but on his staff. We only have good things to say about him. Sadly, unknow to me he was not in the office this day. Dr. Paul has seen my kids for years. I was not advised we would see a different doctor this day. We saw a Dr. Vu. She seemed nice enough, but I would have preferred my kids see the doctor with whom they have history. All went well enough until exiting. My visit payment was more than double than what we have paid in past years! The staff was not helpful in trying to help me understand and made unnecessary comments about how it's sad customers don't understand what they paid for ...insisting the billing was the same a previous years. I felt very disrespected and paid just to leave that situation. I came home and checked previous yrs invoices and I have never walked out with an almost $200 bill for an insurance covered routine annual exams as we have had the same insurance all these years. I called the office to have them look into my invoice now that I confirmed how different billing was from previous years, they said I take it up with my insurance. I reminded them that they said they could not give me an invoice due to incomplete doctor notes and they said they would email it later that day. To date ( 2+mths later still no invoice) I told them I have nothing to refer to if I did call insurance. I was put on hold. After waiting for @15 minutes, I was told my insurance "pushed" back the annual exam fee, something they never told me before. Why would they not help me inquire why that happened as that has never happened before? They immediately charged me and told me that's what I pay every year, refusing to believe that was not the case. Obviously, having my records at home I have now confirmed they were not giving me correct information. I asked to leave a message for Dr. Paul, they refused saying he could not speak to me about billing. I said I wanted to give him feedback on my experience and staff, they said I could not leave a message for him and he will not speak to me. Dr. Paul was not even in the office, why would they be making that decision for him? He was always the sweetest and kindest man which is why my kids continue to see him after so many years. I am terribly disappointed and taken back by the staff. This was a new staff to us. I was spoken to in an abbrasive and condescending manner and of course I became defensive and irritated. I'm so sad to see this kind of treatment of loyal customers. I would love to speak with Dr. Paul to address this matter.

I am seldom impressed with optometrists, but Dr. Randall is the exception. Professional, extremely competent, and great personality. If you had to drive 50 miles it would be more than worth it.

Dr. Paul is a great guy, and very thorough.
