First time visiting and will be the last, the doctor has extremely arrogant manners, seems to be in a rush and doesn't want to explain anything in detail. He didn't explain the results of all basic tests, directly went to prescriptions, even the tests are all fine, we are still entitled to know. He spent less than 5 mins with my son, then another 5 mins with me, WTH!
I have been a patient of Dr. Hom for over a decade and I cannot speak highly enough of his kindness and genuine care. He has always been generous with his time and I truly feel like he is more than just a doctor to me, but a part of my family. My entire family we have been seeing him for so long.
However, I must express my disappointment with the behavior of the front desk staff, particularly the new members. During a recent visit, I was unfortunately running late due to an emergency situation. Despite calling ahead twice to inform them of my situation and reassure them that I was on my way, I was met with a very rigid and uncompassionate response upon my arrival.
The front desk staff insisted that my appointment had been canceled due to my tardiness and refused to inform the doctor that I was there. I was late 18 minutes, It was only after I personally approached the doctor that I was able to be seen. I was shocked by the lack of respect shown to the doctor by his own staff, especially when they threatened to with hold their assistance if he agreed to see me. I even asked the doctor who's going to help me to choose the glasses and order what I need if your front desk they're not going to help you he said I will do everything for you don't worry. And he did he even asked his wife to help me and she was very sweet and kind.
As someone who works in health and wellness and manages an entire office, I understand the importance of handling situations like mine with empathy and understanding. The behavior of the front desk staff was completely unacceptable and disrespectful to the doctor. I strongly believe that the doctor should consider reevaluating on his front desk team to ensure that they uphold the same level of respect and professionalism that he does.
I hate doing this to a non franchise store, but I'll share my experience and you can see why I can only give 1 star.
I came in January to get my annual insurance provided eyeglasses. They took my eye exam, vision prescription and charged my insurance a lot of money for that and the eyeglasses, which includes the generic frame and lens. The purpose of the annual eyeglasses that insurance provides, is to allow you to function in daily life. (like driving to and from work, day and/or night.)
3 issues arose in my experience:
1. On top of the large bill to my insurance, they only credited me a small amount for the generic frames, if I wanted to upgrade. The generic frames were limited and the few shapes/sizes didn't fit me at all. (i think that's on purpose). Regardless, I put out an extra $100 to upgrade my frame - that's not even the problem, the problem was when I received the glasses, there was so much glare! It was harder to see through my brand new glasses, than my old pair of glasses. When I drive at night, so many streaks and flickers of streetlamps and headlights, because the lens are so full of glare, it makes seeing clearly, very difficult. For example, the glasses makes it look like there's a car in my blind spot, when there isn't, causing me to have safety issues operating a vehicle. When I brought this to their attention, they said an anti-glare coating would cost me another around $150!!?! So you charge my insurance hundreds, pocket it, and still want to charge me an additional $250 for usable glasses?! I could literally go anywhere else to get eyeglasses for less than that!
2. Due to the expensive glasses, being useless - I asked how much it would cost to just get contacts. They said I used up my insurance, and it doesn't cover contacts, so that would be an additional cost. (of course) So I asked them how much for contacts, and they quoted me $187!! They said that's the lowest the Dr. can offer me. I said, the doctor knows I'm an existing patient, and you already have my eye exam and prescription, and you want to charge me another $187? They said yes, that's how much it costs.
So I went somewhere else, and guess what, even though the new optometry had to re-do ALL my eye exams, and prescriptions (because I'm a new patient), my total came out to $150 which includes a year supply of contacts! That's WITHOUT insurance! So please shop around before you give this place any of your money, they are definitely a rip-off.
3. The saying goes, "you get what you pay for", but not here. Not only did I pay a lot, but the product they provided is unsafe for use, (if a car accident arises from this, lawfirms will want to poach me to sue them) regardless, it completely renders the purpose and intent of insurance provided eyeglasses useless. You'd think they at least have quick service/turnaround. Well, remember I said I came in January and placed the order then, I didn't get my eyeglasses until May! They can't even use the quarantine as an excuse, because LA County didn't shut down businesses until late March, which means they had 2 full months, that's 8 weeks, to complete my glasses correctly. Nope, no phone calls, no emails... I had to call in April to find out they are closed. Then three more times in May, to finally be notified that my glasses are ready for pickup.
Despite this experience, they could care less about the satisfaction of their paying clients (not even just satisfaction, but SAFETY); I'm not even asking for a refund, I just want to be able to safely drive while wearing these glasses that they made me, for goodness sakes, they've already made hundreds off of me - they should at least put on an anti-glare coating at the very least.
TLDR; Bad and Unsafe Product; Way Overpriced; Extremely Slow Turnaround.
