Acuity Eye Group: Dr. Richard Kim
The staff here is kind, professional, and empathetic. The office is clean, organized, and welcoming. I genuinely appreciate the front desk and tech team for being attentive and courteous during both of my visits.
That said, I've now been referred here twice for persistent dry eye symptoms, and both times I've left feeling disappointed. At my first appointment, Dr. Kim performed a dilation and a basic ink test, but ultimately offered no diagnosis or treatment just a recommendation to use warm compresses. No prescriptions, no discussion of long-term dry eye management, and no real follow-up plan.
At my second visit, things were worse. I came in with swelling and discomfort, and even showed photo documentation of how the issue had flared up, including visible surface changes on my eye. Again, the only advice given was "keep doing warm compresses." No ink test, no slit lamp exam, no tear film evaluation, and no consideration of my dry eye concerns despite me clearly requesting help. When I asked for guidance or possible treatment options, he responded with, "What do you want me to do?" That was disheartening to hear from a specialist.
To make it more frustrating, I had to take time off work for the appointment, and for the second time, I left without any clear plan, treatment, or feeling that my concerns were taken seriously. I filed a formal grievance with my insurer because this level of care didn't meet reasonable expectations for an ophthalmology visit, especially when dealing with chronic eye irritation and visible inflammation.
This office has great support staff, but I sincerely hope the provider reconsiders how he approaches patient engagement and dry eye care in the future.
Not a great place for eye pain and floater diagnosis, and I don't recommend this place for actual eye problems. I have eye pain and eye floaters which is cause by some damage or nerve damage in my eye, or hard retina detection, and I do get black imprints that mimics my iris and see some sort of black orb imprint when shaking my head or look around closely in a focused manner. This is a serious problem and Doctor Chawla ignored it... after some tests and dilating my eyes, he told me saying there is no retina problems like damage and it's just Dry Eyes, but it's not. I know it's some eye problem with this eye pain and floaters, like some eye nerve damage or something and I seriously need to see a genuine caring ophmatologist about my eye pain problem who can talk more about my eye pain and floater problems with my left eye.. Someone has left a negative review here saying a similar related issue to my experience and they were told that there was nothing wrong with their eye, when there clearly was. Please look into another ophmatologist who can find out the problem, like West Coast Eye Institute or California Retina Consultants. I have possible Optic Neuropathy or Optic Neuritis.
Dr. Chawla and his staff made our first visit such an enjoyable experience. From the reception staff to the initial prep and finally being shown in to meet Dr Chawla they were all very respectful upbeat and caring. Definitely referrring this clinic to our friends and family.
Great experience at Acuity Eye Group.
The staff was nice & polite. Maira made me feel comfortable as I tend to feel nerves before my exam. I will be returning for my next routine check up.
They are the best eye care specialists you could ask for. The staff is amazing like Kat who preformed my eye tests before I saw the doctor for my eye injection. Dr. Chawla and Dr. Kim are the only eye specialists I trust with my vision. You will not be disappointed in their care!!!
Samantha and Jessica are the best! My prescription Ray Ban sunglasses and prescription Ray Ban glasses were ready a week early. Great prices and the best service. Love the team at Acuity Eye Group downtown Bakersfield CA. I'll be seeing you all soon
The receptionist was very rude. But the other staff was nice and welcoming. Doctor is in and out of room so fast you don't have time to ask questions.
Office is clean. People are very nice. Kat is very kind and knowledgeable. Dr. Anuj Chawla, MD Retina Acuity Eye Group. Dr. Chawla is amazing. He truly cares about his patients. I was so afraid when I start seeing Dr. Chawla. (I have serious trust issues w Dr.'s) But with no pun intended this man walks on water; he has performed no less than a miracle on my eyes. I thank God that I was able to get with him and he's able to help me the way he did. I strongly recommend if you need to see a retina specialist you come here to this place this location (Stockdale) this doctor and you will not regret it
