10/06/25 was my first appointment at American Eye Assoc. When I was walking in, I noticed their surgery center is right next door. That was the first sign that this office is top-notch. I was running 5 minutes late, but when I walked in, there was a line of 4, maybe five people ahead of me. We usually think negatively when we see this, but please restrain yourself. This office is anything but slow.
Marta greeted me, and she is excellent! She is friendly, polite, was possibly training someone, but she gave me her full attention. After she checks me in, I sit in their massive waiting room, the second sign that the office has a lot of patients. I will be honest and write that I did wait 30 minutes to be called back, BUT we all have a little device to distract us (cell phone). Thirty minutes go by quickly.
Dalton called me back to an exam room. He is one of their medical assistants. (If I'm wrong with his title, please correct me.) He is wonderful! He has a great personality, is very thorough with getting medical history, and answered my questions. I asked him if he was the doctor bc he is excellent at his job. He performed my eye exam, checked the pressure in my eyes, and dilated my eyes. When we were done, Dalton walked me to another smaller waiting room. They probably use this for both sides bc it reminded me of a surgery center waiting room.
It wasn't long, and another lovely lady called me to the next room to see the doctor. Now, I do apologize, I don't remember if this is the same woman who scribed the information for the doctor in the room. Regardless, Karla is the doctor's assistant. She types everything into the computer while the doctor checks your eyes. She is really lovely. She told me I'd be done much sooner than I thought, so I could let the person driving me know.
Then, Dr. Skaf came in and was gone in a flash. You know instantly he is busy. He introduces himself, performs his eye exam, tells me what he thinks & what to do. He answered a question or two, and he was out the door for the next patient. THIS DOESN'T BOTHER ME AT ALL. I know how busy doctors are, especially in an office this size. Of course, it would be great if he weren't, but I feel more for him than for me. This is how 95% of all offices are now. The doctor is overextended, and you can't hold that against him or any other medical professional. That is the reality of our medical system. Please, don't take it out on them. They put in 110% every day for us.
Karla was able to answer the last question I had. She explained I can call them if needed since I am an established patient. And she already had my next appointment scheduled for a year from now. Isn't that great! You don't have to stop at one more place before you leave. I appreciate that they do that.
I walked outside and was waiting for my ride when I looked at Google Maps and saw some recent reviews. I was shocked! One-star reviews for the office I just experienced? I walked back inside. Lovely Marta was on hold, and I explained I'd like to get the names of those I saw today. Another employee was behind the desk, Norma, and she pulled my record up on the computer and wrote down who I saw & in order. That was very nice, she didn't have to take the time to do that, and I absolutely had to get her name too, bc this review wouldn't be complete without her help.
In the end, it was a great appointment. I have zero complaints. I will definitely use American Eye Assoc for all of my vision needs and will recommend this office, too. I interacted with five people, each friendly, professional, and helpful. That's hard to do. They impressed me and I want to give a big THANK YOU to Marta, Dalton, Karla, Dr. Skaf, & Norma for providing 5-star medical care.
Shouldn't have to wait 2-3 hours to be seen by doctor... It's always that bad. Having each patient wait in multiple waiting rooms (first in the front, then again in the back) means multiple wait periods. They seem to answer all these reviews with their apologies, but nothing changes. So insincere. Look for another office!
I would like to get five stars to American I Associates but unfortunately because of billing errors I was sent to collection in 4 months I never received the bill from the anesthesiologist which is a separate billing which totally sucks .You actually get billed from three different places so it can be a big nightmare when it comes time to paying whatever your insurance doesn't pay. Unfortunately they do not communicate with all their departments so I ended up having my bill go to collections for the first surgery. and then found out just by after that and tracking down there phone number, I owed money for the second surgery it's finally been paid. The way they have their practice and lack of communication is crazy .They have my current phone number and they have my email but yet they made no effort in trying to contact me and only sent me bills in the mail and never made any other contact when they didn't receive payment. They didn't even bother contacting the other two parties at the clinic which had my current information just baffles me total laziness. I had to pay out of pocket over my insurance $60.00 the first eye and then $218.00 the Second eye. A huge jump in price. Not to forget my insurance paid $640.00 each time.
Plus the waiting time is super long. You may see two too three people, with only 10 to 15 minutes per person the rest of your 2::30 to 3:00 hours of your time. So in a nutshell I would say that anesthesia Association is my biggest beef plus it takes them anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks before they even send out their billing. I guess they need time to over bill you over what your insurance pays.
