This office is fine if you want to be seen soon &/or for a lower exam fee (in comparison to other offices in the area) and not expecting much in service. However the staff is not welcoming, helpful, nor seem to really care. The glasses I ordered fit poorly and were not comfortable. The person helping me did not seem to have much experience in fitting glasses. I left with the frames bent out of shape and not sitting well on my face. Fortunately another office in town was able to help me get the frames fitting well, back into shape, and feeling comfortable.
We were on a family vacation in Fort Bragg and I bumped my glasses and knocked them out of alignment. I located Dr. Smith's office on the Internet and stopped in to see if they could help me out. The reception was very helpful and took me in within 2 to 3 minutes . She readjusted my glasses and there was no charge. The office is a beautiful craftsman home. I would definitely recommend this doctors office again.
From the onset the office staff was not on top of it and not welcoming. This was a first visit with Kyle Smith. He greeted me curtly and started the exam with barely an introduction, explanation or asking any health history. He seemed to be in a hurry. The culminating incompetence, was he asked if I wanted my eyes dilated and explained that I would have blurry vision for 4 hours. I clearly declined saying I had to drive south to Mendocino and drive children around. He said no problem he would simply numb them with drops to examine them. I felt weird immediately after the drops, and asked if I could be having a reaction. He invalidated my symptoms, and was super cavalier and dismissive. He sent me on my way immediately, and said I should feel fine in 10 minutes. I sat in my car for 20 minutes and still could not read the time or text on my cell phone. I returned to the office to inquire what was going on. His reply after seeing my pupils was " son of a gun, I grabbed the wrong dropper bottle." When I expressed shock and upset he barely said I'm sorry and that was it. Incompetent, un-caring and unprofessional. Reconsider using this provider!
Walked in today with my my glasses that I depend on all day which needed repair. I had been hit, while wearing them, with a thrown ball. They were damaged on both arms. They spent the time to fix tem and make sure they fit properly. Then only charged me $5!. Such courteous service.
Doesn't care about his patient! Major FAIL! Beware!
I am going blind at age 72. I went to see Smith on Valentines Day, 14 Feb 2018, for an eye exam and, I had hoped, to get an appointment for cataract removal surgery. A consult for Lasik cornea correction had been discussed as a next step and Smith said he would refer me.
I do have AMD (Age-relate Macula Degeneration) but that is not connected to my other concerns for cataract surgery or Lasik. However, my limited vision will be improved by both. Unfortunately, once confirming AMD, this "eye specialist" seemed to lose interest in me and my case. Was it because there was not enough profit for him? Was I too old and dumpy for his practice? Was it that I am going blind and who cares?
I had to urge Smith to write to the VA to see what they would cover... then we could pursue further options. He told me it would take a few weeks before we could get an answer back. Okay. I gave the doctor all the info I had including about my VA clinic and where to send the letter, etc. I left feeling that my case was being handled, if reluctantly.
After 7 weeks of not hearing from Smith or his office, in the first week of April, I called the doctor back. The receptionist said she would ask the doctor and call me right back that day. She did not call me right back.
I called again the next week on Monday 9 April. The receptionist asked me to which VA facility should Smith address the letter. THE LETTER HAD NOT YET BEEN WRITTEN YET, much less sent.
The stress of going blind is HUGE and being forgotten by Smith is a stab in the heart. I will never forgive his sloppy poor case management for me.
My suggestion, find a better eye doctor.
No one should have any hesitancy seeing Dr. Smith. I felt immediately at ease. Dr. Smith is humerous, friendly and efficient, and obviously a .professional. What's not to like? (probably wouldn't hurt to tell him that you're a Tarheels fan; he just might give you a discount).
When I went in and picked up my glasses they were adjusting my glasses and I got told that I was picky my glasses are crooked still like legitimately crooked add to iceing Tops that cake they messed up my prescription I cannot see out of one of my lenses but I am not in the position to leave what I am doing to go get this fixed cuz I cannot be with out glasses for 2 weeks. Dont wast your time.
I only recommend J. Kyle Smith, OD for all optometry needs. Wonderful staff, cozy environment and overall great experience. Love my glasses and can't wait for my contacts. Thank you
