My experience started positively, except for the numerous calls, texts, and reminders about my appointment, which in hindsight should have been a warning sign. I have excellent insurance, and typically, I wouldn't spend more than $300 for top-tier services elsewhere. Initially, everything seemed fine until the final pitch came. I even joked about the impending upsell. Despite my insurance covering frames and lenses, they presented multiple levels of protection, progression, and various other add-ons, which amounted to several hundred dollars. Frustrated, I accused them of dishonesty and walked out without any glasses. The representative initially assured me that my insurance allowed me to choose any frames I wanted, only to later retract and clarify that I merely received a discount, and the frames I desired weren't included. Instead, I was offered a selection of "cheap" frames for free, with any other options requiring additional payment. Needless to say, I won't be returning, and I don't recommend their services. Ironically, they claim you'd pay less without insurance.
I never post negative reviews and try to give people grace but this experience was a little too much for me. I scheduled an appointment online but then received an email saying that time wasn't available and I had to reschedule, so I called and rescheduled. I get another voicemail a few days later saying I had to reschedule again because the time is not available. I call a third time and the receptionist said the time was fine and I didn't need to reschedule so I could keep my appointment. This should have been a red flag for me but I didn't want to wait longer to get an eye exam in order to reorder my contacts. The appointment itself was fine but nothing special, felt a bit like a number. Note that their equipment is older. My prescription changed slightly so they said they would order me some trial contacts and call me in a week when they arrived. They never did. They also said they would email me a copy of my prescription which I also never received. When I had to reorder my contacts two months later, I had to call them for a copy of my prescription to be emailed.
I've been to other places that treat you better and with basic customer service. I do not recommend. Look elsewhere.
Went only for my eye exams (no frame purchased) on Jan-12-2026. Staff is friendly, equipment look up to date and optometrist seems good. Everything went by VSP but the retina picture, which needed to be paid out of pocket, but everything was properly communicated before exams started. Overall a good experience. SMS messages could be a little less frequent, though (as a side note).
I ordered prescription eyeglasses after Christmas. After several weeks of waiting, I called to see if they were ready. They were not. I called three more times over the next several weeks. Finally, after 8 weeks, I was told they had arrived, but they needed me to confirm that the lenses were not manufactured correctly. They had not been manufactured correctly. I asked for a refund, but was told my only option was a remake. Having waited two months for the original defective order to be delivered, I insisted on a refund. None was offered. I would highly recommend buying glasses elsewhere.
By the way, they seem to publish only positive reviews on their website (suppressing all the negative ones seen here).
I walked in and was seen right away! The staff at Poway Eyeworks is incredibly friendly, efficient, and thorough during the exam. They made the whole process smooth and stress-free. Highly recommend!
My first visit to Poway Eyeworks a couple of years ago was fantastic. I ordered frames, came in for fitment, and everything went smoothly -- no issues at all.
Fast forward a year later: my lenses were scratched (my fault), so I went in for my yearly exam and re-ordered the exact same pair of glasses. My prescription hadn't changed, and I was told that since everything was the same, I wouldn't need to come back in until the new glasses were ready. That way, they could save time by sending them directly out for lenses.
A little while later, I got a call saying I needed to come in to choose between two frame colors they had ordered. This was confusing because I had already picked the exact same frame as before. Still, I went in, confirmed my original choice again, and was told it would be another 1-2 weeks.
When I finally got the message that my glasses were ready, I went in to pick them up. They handed me a bag, printed my receipt, and that was it -- no fit check, no verification, nothing. Luckily, I looked inside before leaving... they had ordered the wrong glasses.
At that point, I was so frustrated I just told them I'd take them and be done with it.
Really disappointing experience after such a great first impression.
I took my mother to get an eye exam after her cataract surgery a few months ago. Dr.Chisholm was very patient and kind with my hearing impaired mother. She didn't rush and very carefully explained all instructions to my mother .
The optometrist was friendly and helpful - but I was not a fan of the mask. It detracted from the experience not to be able to have a face-to-face encounter.
The front end was a little different. I had purchased sunglasses last year. The coloring began to come off after a short time. They refused to stand by the product and left me with an expensive and useless pair of glasses.
