Costco Optical Department

Woman working the front was disgustingly rude and dismissive, talked to me like a child since I'm a little younger than her. Was rude to the young girl she was supposed to be training. The optometrist told me I'm the second person to complain about her disrespectful behavior.

I miss the old optometrist that they had. The one I went to back in July 2024 was lazy. I say lazy cause she didn't even give an actual prescription for my right eye. As long as I've worn contacts my right eye's prescription was always different than my left, but she just put that both of my eyes were the same prescription. I truly hope it wasn't because I didn't want any add-on services included with the eye exam cause that's scammy.

This review is for the optical office inside Costco (Elk Grove) specifically the optometrist that works Wednesdays (with pediatric patients). I can't remember her name. It was December 2023 and I could not get into our regular optometry office for my son (6 years old) before the end of the year (benefits). I love Costco itself, their optical office were able to get us in within the next week or so, decided to give it a first time try. Man oh man was it a mistake! The optometrist was not patient with my son. I could sense the frustration in her voice when my son couldn't focus or kept moving his eyes. Our appt lasted for just maybe 15-20 minutes. This was red flag #1 when she wasn't very patient and my son felt bad for not being able to see the letters. She said she couldn't get him to 20/20, so she wrote us a prescription anyway for new glasses to try for 6 weeks and then come back. Also, to bring his old glasses at appt #2. We came back 6 weeks later. We came early 15 minutes. We came in and she still had a hard time getting his prescription saying she doesn't know if the new glasses were too strong or weak. We were there for not even 5 minutes and told us to come back and bring his old glasses (since we forgot) and she will dilate his eyes next time. I said since we are already here, can you dilate him today..her excuse was red flag #2.. "since you came early we moved you since another patient was late so I'd rather have u come back next week plus u have to bring the old glasses anyway" which would be appt. #3. We felt rushed, I was upset because we came early but ended up being pushed away from our full visit. Also, concerned she couldn't get his prescription after 2 visits on her own.. what if we lost his old glasses? I never went back to appt #3. I put those glasses she prescribed AWAY. He continued wearing his old glasses for a few months. I waited for the new year to make him an appt with my own optometrist who spent almost an hour with my son from start to finish.. very thorough and super patient with my son. He was ABLE to get a new prescription for my son and explained to me how my son has a moderate astigmatism something Costco optometrist never mentioned.

Update: Lena called after business closed, helped to submit the claim to vsp, and made reimbursement over the phone. Much appreciated. Original: Came back twice, waited an hour each to have them run my insurance as being told. Finally, the old lady said they couldn't reach vsp, I just have to pay myself. I already paid. She's like "so what's the problem?" Of course the problem is I have to pay out of pocket while having insurance. She just acted like doesn't know what she's doing after an hour. She really needs to have proper trainings for customer service and how to fit the glasses nose pads on the customer. The attitude was just . Thumb ups for Jack and Lena for trying to help.

Customer service here is non existant. Came to pick up glasses. Exact type of service recieved when I ordered them from the optical manager. No concern for the customer. Fish rots from the head down. Why do I shop Costco then? Price. Instead of one pair of glasses for $385 from my eye doctor, I got my one pair plus new lens in an older pair for about $100. And I will add, that one time in the pass year I went in to have a screw replaced in an older pair, and the attendant who was working gave me excellent service. I cant not remember her her name but at the time I told her so. Will I return to Costco when I get a new pair next year? Most likely. Money Money Money....

Where do I start ? Don't go here they can't fit your glasses properly and when there are a lot of people they want to get you done as fast as they can. I tried two years in a row and end up with a BAD fit ! I have to pick my glasses up to use the bi-focal . I tray and go back and they can't fit me right. They all need customer service training

This is the rudest Costco optical to go for glasses. I went to have one of my screws fixed because it came loose. I was trying on one of the glasses and didn't know that it needs to be put into the basket after trying, so I'm about to put it back where I got it from when one of the employees walked up to me, grabbed it from my hand, threw in the basket, and she rudely said "Every glass that's been touched needs to put it here". I would have appreciated it if she had just informed me about it instead snatching it out of my hands. Poor customer service and unprofessional.

I called this Cost Co vision center and the lady that I have spoken with does not even know the price of an eye exam. When she transferred me over to speak with their doctor to ask for pricing it went to voicemail, she could had atleast stayed on the line until I have reached someone who would actually know the price of an exam. Definitely will re-consider going somewhere else for my exam, prescription glasses and sun glasses.
