Great doctor! Awesome equipments and friendly staff. However, after 4 years going there, they turned me down this year. They told me Dr Shipley is dialing down his practice - or something along these lines. Although I understand it, I can't help but feeling frustrated about it. It makes more sense to turn down new patients. Anyway, wishing him a happy retirement.
Heads up--not trans friendly. If you want your name and pronouns respected don't go here. Also Les Shipley made creepy comments about me, my mother, and my sister's appearance. But he knows his stuff, and his daughter is chill. Staff can be high strung, but mostly helpful.
On the plus, Les Shipley gave me a specialized test for free when I found out I had a visual disorder that was making me go blind. I'll always remember that.
Margot is Magic! For the first time in I don't know how many years, she got my prescription so well dialed in that I can actually see the moon and the stars clearly, with pinpoint accuracy! Hello Mr Moon!
I have astigmatisms and near sightedness, etc, and Margot very patiently worked with me, "one or two" over and over, reminded me to blink, to move my head around, and step by step we tweaked my not even one year old "close to good" prescription into one I hope I always can do as well with!
And she is also super nice and patient with this old Autistic man, explaining things as she went.
5 stars for the Eye check and nice folks on front desk..
What is NOT 5 stars? What was NOT ideal?....
Major error on one pair of glasses by the Optical filler, and missed by the front desk inspection, the bifocal split was off by a huge amount (a cm?), per the picture shown.
Limited selection on frames, no "cool chunky mens" frames at all! Very utilitarian, so much so that I kept my 2 old frames to be filled instead of getting a new "mostly free" VSP frame because they were not as cool as what I had! I wish they had a catalog, or other options, but not were offered to me.
Dr Shipley the dad could NOT keep his mask over his nose on both occasions I saw him at the front desk with his staff, even after 2 years, one would expect proper mask use. You can buy extra metal nose clips, better masks that fit, etc, so I was disappointed to see a medical professional so lacksadaisical. As I am boosted and was wearing an N95, plus stayed FAR away from his exposed nose, I am sure I am fine, but was disappointing.

Threw me away like a piece of garbage because they didn't like my insurance
I have never felt so unwelcome as a new patient. None of the 5 people I interacted with introduced themselves (no name tags). Nobody acknowledged me as a new patient. I was literally herded around from one room to another with lightening speed but when it came to paying them $380 they were very attentive. Poor communication about the follow up visit. I was with my previous doc for 35 years before he retired. I won't be going back to Shipley.
Dr. Shipley is incredible! He's super knowledgeable and explains everything clearly. He wants to correct your vision and get you out of glasses if possible. Instead of putting a band aid on the problem. He can do it all I received punctual plugs over a year ago and it's been amazing for me. I however still have extremely dry eyes due to Sjogren's and eye fatigue from digital screens. Not a problem for the Dr. he will continue to follow up and literally will try everything to help you not be in pain. You have a serious problem he has the solution. I've seen a lot of optometrist and he's in a league of his own...He's practically my hero!
The rest of staff is amazing as well! They don't miss a beat. The best selection of eyewear as well. Came for the glasses stayed for the service over and over.
I've been coming here since I was a child and my mom brought me here. So I thought after 15+ years of coming here a review is due. I love this place but most of all, I love the people who work here. I've never left an appointment unhappy.
I love that they explain my insurance benefits to me because to be honest, I don't really care about that stuff until I need it LOL. They have quality frames at very different price points. I love that during my visits all of my questions are answered, my concerns are listened to and anything that has changed in my vision has been explained to me. When you're in with a Shipley, you're in good hands.
My first experience with Dr. Les Shipley was very positive they were great with my children. Never a bad experience then we switch eye coverage plan and Dr. Shipley said he would not make money off me with my new insurance and said for me to go elsewhere. I did. A year later we got insurance that his office excepts and so I called Dr. Shipley's office and asked if they accepted my insurance. They said yes I waited a whole month for the appointment and I got a call confirming that I had an appointment then I got a separate call saying that Dr. Shipley was downsizing his patients and was not going to be able to see my child again because he will not make money. This is discrimination why list you accept insurance providers then deny service? I reached out to my insurance to file a complaint. The main reason for writing this is to make you aware that it's doesn't matter if they schedule you you will be canceled if you do not make him money. Such a shame.
