I have been a patient since I moved here, 1 1/2 years ago. I can't begin to compliment enough the staff on their their efficiency, kindness and professionalism - and that is everyone I've encountered. Dr Meffert and staff advocated for me to continue a better medicine, that I had just started before my move here. Currently my eye is finally repairing ( after 5 years of treatment) , my vision is improved and I couldn't be happier.
This place is busy, I think they over book there staff because the waiting room is where I waited for a check up after being called in only to be told no room was avaliable. My Dr appointment could have been done over the phone. I feel like it was a waste of a trip and being 83 years old it is hard to arrange for rides to and fro
Avoid This Business - Poor Communication and Zero Accountability
I was referred to this office by my primary care physician for a preventative consultation--something I had specifically requested. I scheduled the appointment months in advance to align with another visit I already had planned in the area, since I live five hours away.
However, once they received my records, their office called and insisted I come in immediately, saying their doctor had reviewed my file and determined it was urgent. I explained that my regular doctor had found no issue and had only recommended the consultation as a precaution. Still, they were adamant that I needed to be seen right away.
So I rearranged my schedule, took a day off work, drove five hours, and booked a hotel--fully expecting to undergo a procedure based on the urgency they conveyed.
When I arrived, they informed me I would need another exam--even though my doctor had just completed one and provided the results. I reminded them that I was there specifically for the preventative procedure, not another diagnostic exam. They insisted, so I paid out of pocket for a duplicate exam.
Afterward, I met with their doctor, who told me everything was fine--just as my own doctor had said--and that I didn't need any procedure at all. In fact, I wasn't even close to needing one. I reminded them that it was their staff who told me this was urgent and needed to be handled right away. The doctor acknowledged the confusion but offered no resolution.
In the end, I spent over $500, missed a day of work, and drove ten hours round-trip--all for an appointment that never needed to happen in the first place.
To make matters worse, their own office manager admitted their staff gave me incorrect information. She apologized, acknowledged the error, and even said she'd be addressing it at the next staff meeting. But when I kindly asked if they would waive the exam fee, given that it was unnecessary and their mistake, she refused. Despite admitting fault, they still insisted on being paid in full for a visit I never should have needed.
If you have other options, I strongly encourage you to go elsewhere. This business clearly prioritizes profit over integrity, and their lack of accountability is unacceptable.
I was set up to see for a detached retina on Thursday and Friday afternoon I got a call they I missed was out of room, no message was left and I was told that I would have a co-pay of 20 %. Of the procedure on day of surgery. And by doing this caused me to have to wait over weekend to schedule another appointment at a medical provider to perform my surgery, so I called Monday morning to cancel. I find out later that my secondary insurance was coming up inactive, this was easy to fix with a simple phone call. This should have been told at time of setting appointment.
The entire staff here is FANTASTIC but I can not say enough good things about Dr Ira Schachar!!! He is working with me as I have had 2 retinal detachments in my only good eye. He is doing everything in his power to save my vision. He TRULY cares. He also knows how high my anxiety is and understands that. It doesn't matter how often I call I am treated like family. I hope you never have to end up here but if you do, know you will have the best care. I will be glad when/if I ever don't need this place anymore but I will miss them!!!
Treatment Is very good. However, my biggest complaint is sitting in the office for 2.5 hours. I really didn't expect to have to wait that long; I didn't get seen for 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. And if that is a common practice, then I think when the appointment is made that it should be explained to the patient. It makes it difficult when you have to have someone drive you.
If you can handle the rudeness and the insults of front office that acts like the owners. And of course the manger that take their side. You are in good hands of the good doctors.
I am humbled by and so very grateful for the exceptional staff at North Bay Vitreoretinal Consultants. Not only have I been treated with personalized and genuine kindness by the entire staff, I have additionally been medically cared for with the utmost expertise, professionalism, and skill. Dr. Schlesinger, an expert surgeon, and Dr. Yalamanchi are both phenomenal, accomplished physicians who invest in their patients. I will be forever appreciative of their care during an extremely stressful time. They truly make you feel like family.
