Temple City Optometry

I have gone to this optometry practice for over ten years, but only realized they had changed management at my most recent appointment. Something felt off (I didn't recognize anyone and they asked me if I was a new patient) and I didn't realize until I looked at some of the Google reviews in which the business responded that they would be under new management starting in 2026. To me, it seems unprofessional that I only found that the practice was under new management after my appointment and I wasn't informed prior. They seem to be figuring out how to transition patient files and the business. I understood that that takes a while to do, but I am not sure I will continue going to the optometrist for a number of reasons. - Patient file "lost". When I arrived, I was asked to fill out a new patient form and was told my patient file could not be currently located. I was confused, but filled out the form. Later I asked the front desk to try to find my file because I had been a patient here for many years. One of the front desk women explained pretty shortly with me that my file wasn't "misplaced" but they were transitioning systems to an electronic one. I felt like she could've explained that to me for the get-go instead of insinuating that my entire file had been lost and requiring me to fill out a new patient form. (They never found my file, even though there were tons of patient files behind the front desk that the assistant did not look through again after I made my request. The doctor did not have my file during my appointment so could not reference my former vision prescription or anything like that.) - Credit card surcharge of 3%. I planned go re-up my contact lens supply at my appointment and was hit with a 3% surcharge for using my credit card. I wasn't informed when I was making my appointment that the policy had changed because there was never a surcharge before. I had not brought my debit card with me. I ended up paying a $22 fee for around a $700 charge to buy a years-long supply for contacts. - Required to sign waiver that the contacts I planned to buy would be "final sale" with no returns. The optometrists who used to run this practice would allow me to "test run" some contacts at home before making a purchase and I was never required to sign such a form. Instead, I was given some contacts to "test run" that were not the exact type of contact I ended up buying, so I felt like I had to buy the contacts on the spot and sign the form to do so. I also wasn't given clear instructions on how to redeem the rebate, whereas before the assistants always gave me an informational packet and clear written instructions. - Longer than usual wait time. My appointment was at 12:30pm. I arrived ten minutes early, but I still had to wait 15 minutes after doing initial eye tests to see the doctor, because he only had started seeing the patient before me. The old practice had me in and out in around 30 minutes. I spent almost an hour this time at my appointment, and had to rush back to work. - Staff not as professional. It seemed like the staff were pretty confused about what was going on. I understand that there is a transition and learning period under new management, but same front desk female assistant was joking with another older man about "lovers" in Mandarin in front of me. That felt inappropriate to joke about in a professional setting. Updated review: I was only able to receive $100 in contacts lens rebate when I was told by a worker here I would be able to qualify for $250. Extremely disappointed.

Eye exam was done very professionaly. The staff was very helpful and patient; she took the time to help me pick the glasses. Large frame selection.

I've used Young's for a while and have tried to replenish my contact lens order 3 times but each time I called they were closed. I just managed to get through today on my second call and the assistant said that my prescription had expired so she couldn't order them. I asked that she send me my prescription so I could go elsewhere which she said she would and I confirmed one more time that this would mean losing me as a customer and the assistant agreed and with no politeness finished the call and hung up on me without saying good bye I've had many lenses made for my glasses here and ordered contacts but will no longer. I was really trying not to use a large corporate for my contact lenses and trying to help small local business however my hand was forced. Goodbye Young's, such a shame you couldn't show a little more customer service and compassion or help.

Avoid this place entirely. The customer service and communication here are among the worst I've experienced. They accepted my insurance but failed to provide the correct contact prescription. I ordered contacts and glasses, but after returning them due to their mistake, they refused to correct the issue or fulfill my order. Do yourself a favor and find a more reliable optometry office.

Excellent customer service! I have a son on the spectrum with Autism and they were so patient and even thanked him for doing such a good job during a test. Staff is professional, caring, the doctor sat and actually talked to me and explained so much for my children and I, I Definitely recommend and will be coming back.

After I paid over 1000$ for my exam, lenses and contacts, as I was walking out of the office the staff member who charged me yelled "do not return here because I don't want to serve you!" In retaliation for my suggestion that they need training. This staff member was slow, scattered, inefficient and did not know how to speak professionally. In fact, they yelled at me as the Dr. Ngo was seated there. I did not reply in fear of my own safety as I can only assume this was racially motivated. I called the office shortly thereafter, and Dr. Ngo himself answered but also laughed (which I am assuming is his defense mechanism bc he did apologize). As a physician myself, I just cannot believe this is the professionalism in this practice. Unfortunately I have had a good optometrist here for years, but I do not feel safe or valued as a customer/patient and will no longer return for future eye exams (assuming they in fact do call me when my lenses and glasses are ready to pick up). I will also not be bringing my parents here as previously established patients to return either. I hope the staff can be educated that unprofessionalism loses business (in this case my family of 3 who can afford to pay full price as we are doctors). I am sorry that they have already shut down the Rowland Heights and Arcadia practices. I will not return. I filed a complaint with the California Dept of Consumer Affairs as well because of my fear to return and the unprofessionalism.

Very clean optometry store. The staff wipes everything. First I thank Betty for her pleasant way she tested my eyes and how she took care of me showing me the different frames and how she measures my frames on me. She has a beautiful smile. Thank you to Dr. Ngo for his pleasant professional manners. He took time and explained some essential things I should do to protect my eyes. The student Darren is lucky to work with such a great team. He also is very polite and was very good measuring my bifocal. I recommend Young's Optometry.

I was only in here for a short while and I knew that this would be my optometrist from now on. I've walked into plenty of other optometrists and it would take forever before anyone noticed you or asked if you needed any help. Once I walked in, two very kind technicians asked to help me. They gave me plenty of great information on how to choose frames that were right for me. I will definitely be coming back!
