They will nickel and dime you to death. $20 to put lenses in an envelope and send them to my home which saves them a ton of time rather than me coming in and sitting in a doctors chair. Exercise, extreme caution and get pricing upfront from these guys, then make an informed decision.
I recently had the Epi-On Cross-Linking procedure performed here as a participant in the PXL-Platinum 330 System Study being done by Doctor Lance S. Forstot. The procedure went very smoothly, recovery is going as expected, and so far I am very pleased.
The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is because I have a couple points of criticism. When originally discussing the procedure, I was assured that Dr. Forstat has performed Epi-On Cross-Linking thousands of times over many years now and has had great success. This led me to believe that one, Dr. Forstat would be performing the procedure, and two, thousands of people have done this exact procedure.
The truth of the matter is that Dr. Forstat only oversees the procedure. This meant that he only checked in between stages while his research technician, Andy, performed the entire procedure. I believe I saw Dr. Forstat for maybe a total of five to ten minutes at most while he checked in to make sure everything was going as it should. Andy did an excellent job and Dr. Forstat seemed to show up at the critical moments when his expertise was required, so this isn't a complaint about the procedure, only about the expectation I was given.
The second part is that while the Epi-On Cross-Linking may have been performed here thousands of times with a great success rate, on the day of the procedure I was told that the study I was in to test the PXL-Platinum 330 System has only had about 300 participants in the US. So the thousands of successes that had come before me didn't really matter at that point. While I'm absolutely certain that no doctor would put their reputation on the line for equipment they didn't believe would do the best job possible, especially a doctor with such a great track record as Dr. Forstat, finding this out at the last minute didn't make me feel so great.
So, just to reiterate, my critique has absolutely nothing to do with the procedure or even Dr. Forstat, who was very professional and nice during the short time I did spend with him, only the expectations that were set.
I feel it's important that anyone considering Epi-On as a part of this study should be aware of the things I've mentioned here.
Drove 45 mins here many times for scleral lenses. My insurance covered it, thankfully. But the doctor gave me the totally wrong prescription. When I went to pick them up and put them in for the first time, they rushed me out the door after I put them in. They didn't even ask about my vision. It was so blurry and I had to drive home in them. I kept calling telling them it was blurry every day and when was it going to stop. They just gaslighted me and said that was normal. I finally got another appointment about a month later because it took weeks to see the doctor again. They told me I had to drive there in my scleral lenses and have them in for at least three hours before. They were so dry and blurry and it was dangerous for me to drive. That next appointment they realize the prescription was very off. It was so bad. They got me a new prescription, but I basically had to tell the doctor what was clear by using the little keychain of fake lenses they gave me. But then when I got the new prescription, the left eye was much more powerful than the right. The doctor has no idea what they are doing when it comes to scleral lenses. They fogged up from the start and she just made excuses saying the fit was right and there was nothing wrong. They also continue to fog up even 2 years later after spending hundreds of dollars on solutions and recommended eye drops I was never able to even wear them without pain and discomfort. They never did anything to help me. I paid around $40-$60 for them to ship new lenses to me twice even after they messed up the prescription so I wouldn't have to drive there multiple times. Waste of time.
Went in for a basic eye exam, which was clearly specified prior to arrival and upon starting my initial exam. Nearly 20/20 vision. They thought it necessary to add a refraction exam without disclosing an additional charge. Not pleased with an unnecessary test that was not asked for nor required. Shady business practice to say the least.
Maya at the front desk was great. I wanted to make an appointment with my regular Opthamologist, Dr. Satija, who is great btw, and she was actually seeing my brother today. Anyway, while I waited for my bro, I thought id make my next appt. early due to cataract problems. Maya went out of her way to see if I coukd be seen today while I was already here. She got me in with another doc.
I never was able to see a doctor here so my review is of the office/front desk. I called and scheduled an appointment on Thursday afternoon for Friday morning. Drove to my appointment showed up 20 minutes early to fill out paperwork only to have them tell me I had no appointment. They were very short and very rude as I described my call with them yesterday. So instead of argue I left. On my drive home they called to say I did have an appointment and they don't know what happened. Could be a great office of doctors and their front desk leaves a lot to be desired.
The office is well running and has excellent staff.
Very punctual at the time of the appointment
The clinical staff does a great job and I highly recommend Dr. Fish for any of your eyecare needs
They have a very large selection of eyewear as well and they're very patient through the selection process.
Highly recommend thank you.!!
Docs and Techs are on their game. Appreciate Dr Forstot and his team!
