I had an amazing experience at Apex Optical Co a few weeks ago. I'm not a regular customer, but my prescription sunglasses became warped and had me seeing double while I was en route to a doctor's appointment nearby. After my appointment, I searched for the nearest optometrist to see if I could get my frames fixed, and ended up around the corner at Apex. They were extremely friendly and helpful and fixed my frames in less than five minutes at no charge. They helped me salvage a pair of new prescription sunglasses, which would not have been a cheap replacement. Very pleased with this level of service!
Garrett and Marcello are true craftsmen. I love coming in for adjustments and new frames. Hand-cut lenses in-house and their dedication to personalized service represent the highest caliber in a shrinking industry.
The best optical shop you'll ever find. I've been going to them for close to 20 years. I work with Garrett, but regardless of who you work with, they are great. Garrett knows my style very well and is always spot on when he pulls a frame for me to try on. I have horrible eyesight, but the glasses are always perfectly made regardless of my prescription. I bought four new pairs yesterday and each one was unique, on trend, and looked fantastic. Unfortunately, they are only open 9-5, Mon-Fri so I have to take time off work to go there. They are a bit expensive, but they carry quality frames and the lenses are always top-notch. It's well worth the cost and PTO to shop here. There just aren't enough words to convey how awesome this shop is!
I had a really good and pleasant experience at the store. When I picked up my glasses I realized that the lenses were a bit weird to my previous lenses as they were distorting images. I figured it might have something to do with them being new lenses so I waited. Today I went to the eye doctor to figure out why the glasses are so different and it turns out that my glasses were made whole .5 degree stronger than they should have been. Very scary and disappointing given the price point.
I went to Apex to get my glasses adjusted because they were too loose and on the first try, the staff were able to fix it perfectly. No other optical center I've been to has been able to match their service. Great environment, great staff, and excellent service.
It's probably been 20 years since I bought my first pair of glasses at Apex. The quality of their lenses is unmatched. Before cataract surgery the prescription for my left eye was -15 diaopter, strong enough to not be able to read my alarm clock's bright red, large numbers in the dark. (My other eye was -10.5, not much better.) Many, or most optical shops won't, or can't grind lenses that strong. Apex makes progressive lenses that never gave me problems even with the poor acuity and rather extreme difference in my two eyes, seeing-wise. People tell me that they can't adjust to progressives and I reply, 'go to Apex'. Since my cataract surgery I've developed double vision and once again, they grind my prescriptions that now include a prism (prisms?). I think they have a large number of frames (but don't know how that compares since I never go elsewhere). I also have reason to believe they are no more expensive than other optical shops based on stories of friends regarding their experience elsewhere. I have not been to their Wisc. store. My ophthalmologist recommended Apex.
Broke my glasses last night, no extra pair, going on vacation in two days. Turned up at Apex this morning and they were amazing in helping me. First, they called the supplier to see if they could overnight me a new frame. When the the supplier was closed for inventory, they took my glasses to the back room and fitted my lenses into a frame they had in stock that was very similar to my original frame. They then saved me $200 by recommending that I just order a replacement for the broken piece of my frame rather than the whole thing. I walked out with functioning glasses thirty minutes later, an order placed for the replacement piece that will be waiting for me when I get back from vacation, and they refused to take any money from me. Unbelievable. My GW opthamolgist said that APEX was the best place to go for quality care in DC. This experience certainly bore it out.
The owner is super super nice. He helped me fixed my glasses without any cost. All of the glasses in the store were really nice too. Would definitely come back again for my next pair of glasses.
