I cannot speak high enough of Dr. Luthra. Back in the fall of 2024 I attended a doctor's appointment for what I thought was pink eye but turned out to be an ulcer. They immediately started calling ophthalmologist in the area to get me in. Dr. Luthra said he could see me within the next hour. Dr. Luthra helped heal my ulcer over the next year and at several points saw me daily. He helped calm my nerves in an intense time and provided great medical advice. Over a year later after my eye had healed, Dr. Luthra completed my lasik. It's been a year since my lasik and it was one of the best decisions I've made. I am forever thankful for Dr. Luthra and his work.
Dr. Luthra is a rock star! After my eyesight had been deteriorating for the past several years, on his advice (and no sales pressure, by the way) he performed the PanOptic surgery on my cataracted eyes, one this past October and the other this past November. It was so worth the expense. And it was painless. I can read street signs and TV captions again. I can read from my computer monitor without squinting and do a lot more reading without eye strain - and all without eyeglasses. Colors seem brighter to me than they have in the past decade. I am not overusing a cliche when I say that the surgery was a life changer. One of the best decisions I have ever made.
TLDR; good doctor but bad customer service and money grabbing tactics. Lots of other places around, go elsewhere!
The doctor is personable and good at his job. However, they made my life very difficult by refusing to give me my prescription for glasses because it had been 11 weeks since my appointment (during which I had my prescription checked and updated). I didn't get it printed at the time because it hadn't changed, but then broke my glasses and needed the script to get a new pair from my usual online retailer. They said no, you should have gotten the script that day of your appointment! My prescription hadn't changed at the time, so there was no need for me to pay $85 to have them print the script.
As everyone knows, most insurances only cover 1 exam a year, so I would have had to pay out of pocket for the redundant visit and then an extra $85 on top of it for the script. No im just stuck with glued together glasses until January.
We live in a city, there are a zillion other practices to go to. Find somewhere else that won't hold your prescription for ransom.
Great and easy service at Columbia Eye. I found the clinic quickly through Zocdoc and was able to get an appointment without any hassle. The process was smooth, efficient, and fast from start to finish. The staff was professional and the overall experience was excellent. Highly recommend this clinic.
Dr. Luthra is amazing.Such a good sense of humor. He took care of my issues in two weeks just ike magic. Highly recommend.
Dr. Luthra has performed my mother's cataract surgery, and he did a wonderful job. My mother is very happy and pleased with the results. For background: my mother has only one working eye (the other eye has been non-functional for 20+ years). So, she was very apprehensive and stressed about having surgery on her only good eye. We went to Dr. Luthra, and from the beginning, he has been so kind, explaining the whole process for my mother, what lens is best for her, and more fundamentally, why cataract surgery had to be done as the cataract had been getting dense. Doctor Luthra operated on her dense cataract. He is such a skilled surgeon and wonderful doctor. My mother is very happy with the results, and so thankful to be able to have clear vision (and see vivid colors again) with her only eye. In addition, the staff at Columbia Eye is top notch, they have provided seamless interfacing with insurance, and have been very responsive and extremely fast with everything that we needed (sending prescriptions, answering our calls, providing answers to any questions, etc).
Amazing experience. My anxiety was 1000 when I visited as I was scared regarding the outcome of my visit. Dr. Luthra made me feel so comfortable, and all the anxiety disappeared. He was very caring and listened to all of my concerns. It was a great visit, and I will be following up. The check-in process was seamless, and the staff was very friendly. The office is in a great location and not a far walk from Foggy Bottom station. I was very pleased and happy to know there are still caring medical professionals without the feeling being rushed and taking their time .
Dr. Luthra and Columbia Eye Associates get FIVE STARS for the cataract with lens implant surgery. I was anxious at first, but Dr. Luthra answered all my questions and concerns. The staff and facility at Friendship Surgery Center also get FIVE STARS. I am 77 and can now see clearly. I don't even need reading glasses. Thank you, Dr. Luthra.
