Dr. John Lamothe

I called the Washington Eye Associates on L St. to inquire regarding an emergency for my father's eyes, and the office put me on call with the doctor, who assisted with patience and encouraging humanity and humility. Thank you Dr. Lamothe and the staff at Washington Eye Associates.

I don't get the negative reviews. I've been seeing Dr Lamothe for 10+years, and I actually travel very far to see him because I trust him to deal with my difficult eyes.

Do NOT go to this eye doctor. I had a very negative and upsetting experience with Washington Eye Associates and Dr. Lamothe. In August, I went in for an annual eye exam, which was a typical experience. I was given a prescription for contacts along with a trial pair since they were new brand. I tried these contacts for 2 weeks and was not happy with them. I called to ask for a new trial pair. I was told by an associate that I would need to come in, but there would not be a charge since I already had to pay a processing fee at the first appointment. In the follow up appointment, Dr. Lamothe gave a new trial pair and told me I would need to send an email if I like them to get the same strength prescription for the new contacts brand. On my way out, the receptionist told me I would need to pay a fee for the follow up. I let him know that the associate on the phone told me there would not be a charge since I only wanted to try a different trial pair. He was quite rude, but told me I didn't need to worry about it then. I got a strange email from Dr. Lamothe following up saying I needed to pay this fee. I emailed a response explaining the situation, but that I was amiable to paying even though I was given incorrect information on the phone. I called to follow up but my calls were not answered. I called my eye insurance company and they reached out to the doctor's office which prompted the office to reach out to me. The receptionist told me I would need to wait for the trial period for the contacts and email the prescription. I was happy with the contacts and called to pay the invoice and ask for the prescription. The receptionist was cagey and said he wasn't sure when the doctor could find the time to write it. I emailed Dr. Lamothe to request my prescription to the original email and my email bounced back and indicated that I was blocked. I emailed again and it bounced back. I tried to call again and no one picked up. I needed to call the my eye insurance as this was the only way to get a response and get my prescription. My eye insurance company called the doctor's office and while I was waiting on the phone, the doctor's office emailed the prescription. The insurance agent returned to our call and said the receptionist refused to give the agent their name for documentation purpose. The agent said this was odd and unusual. I am grateful for the insurance company's advocacy in getting my prescription, but this was a very upsetting experience. I urge anyone looking for an eye doctor to avoid Washington Eye Associates given their unprofessionalism and lack of communication.

I really don't understand what all the one star reviews are about. Something looks hacked. I have been seeing Dr. Lamothe for years now. He is a great optometrist, incredibly nice and professional. I would not hesitate to recommend his practice to anyone.

Inefficient and unprofessional. John Lamothe was the first doctor in whose office I felt very unsafe: In addition to being unable to get my prescription right, he acted aggressively, yelling and tearing up my file. (and he charged me over $200 for doing nothing).

I've been going to Dr. L for years. I am very puzzled by the 1-star reviews. He's knowledgeable, thorough, and friendly, and listens to symptoms and clearly explains possible causes and solutions. The staff is professional and extremely helpful. I found him after several other less than stellar experiences. Highly recommend!

As with the others, I am surprised by the one-star reviews. I have seen Dr. Lamothe for years and feel he is the best optometrist I have ever seen.

Without hesitation would recommend Dr. Lamothe as an optometrist. I have been going to him for 10+ years and have had no issues. Professional and courteous.
