This review is for Azell from the billing department at Washington D.C Howard University Hospital. I can't emphasize enough, how much I appreciate you!! I'm happy I got transferred to you because the agent prior to you, did not want to help me at all. It was worth the wait. I got off the phone feeling relieved and in a way better mood. You ensured me everything will work out and it did. It is obvious that You truly care for us, which is rare in this industry. Most agents sound like robots and would not take the time nor energy you did to do the right thing. The previous agent stated that I was not in the old system and transferred me to you. You took the initiative to look in both the new and the old system and discovered I was in fact in the old system. I was able to get my medical bills sent over thanks to you. Your compassion for helping people is a blessing for our community. We need more Angels on earth like you! Thank You Azell <3 feeling blessed! Truly, -Radha M. Samuel

Doctor Carter, his nurses, and staff took urgent care of my brother. I'm in California and they managed to assure me of his safety and medical needs. Doctor Carter spoke to me on my brother's cell phone, and the nurses continued to update me of his condition throughout the 5-7 hours he was there. They even left his phone on speaker throughout his stay. I was across the country but with them every step of the way. They even provided him with a charger, a jacket, new mittens, hat, etc. after his discharge. He was in GREAT hands. I didn't even need to hop on a plane and fly down there. Great communication, and great care. Thank you for servicing my brother with great hands :)

This has to be the WORST hospital I've ever been to. Outpatient is ok but things are out of order & not flowing smoothly when it comes to getting refills on medication as well as making appointments. Next, let's talk about the inpatient. Some of my if not the worst hospital stays I've ever had in my life. First time, I had pneumonia they immediately put me in the ICU & that had never happened before when I've had pneumonia. My plan when I come in there was not followed at all they did their own thing disregarding what works best for me. Barely had me on antibiotics & I also didn't go home on any which was weird because it wasn't completely gone. I was home for about a week & a half before I started to experience the same pain again but worse. It was to the point I couldn't lay down or sit up comfortably on top of me wheezing which has never happened before while having pneumonia. This time they admitted me I was not put in the ICU knowing this was worse than the last time & I mean way worse. Doctors weren't communicating properly & again steered away from the plans that were already on file that works for me. Day after day after day they decided to do their own thing while I was in TEARS which rarely happens when I'm in pain. The tears happen when something is seriously wrong. I'm telling them it wasn't working & I was so uncomfortable & in so much pain that I couldn't sleep I mean up for more than 36+ hours straight pleading with them just go with the plan that's on my file but the lead doctor wasn't listening & kept turning down suggestions from the other specialists. It was just bad. Then this last stay was the icing on the cake. Again, they didn't follow what was on my file & kept telling me something was going to happen & it never did & I stayed there for 8+ days going through the same thing. The doctors weren't listening & started raising their voices. The nurses were constantly rude & didn't care really. The only good thing I can say happened is that in each one of my stays, there was at least one nurse maybe only one or two nurses during each stay that actually cared & advocated for me & my wellbeing so I appreciate them. The rest are very rude & don't care really. Everything is so discombobulated it's ridiculous. Then when the treatment isn't working they push you out & tell you if it's still bad then you're going to have to go back to the ER & do this process all over again. That is what I was told by a doctor. So in conclusion, I WILL NOT be going back to the WORSE hospital I've ever been to. HEED MY WARNING PLEASE!!! I was told by a doctor that because I was admitted twice within 30 days, they don't make any money off of that. Why would you tell a patient that!?!? Also, you should've done your job better than maybe it wouldn't have happened. TRASH & MONEY HUNGRY HOSPITAL!!! Again... HEED MY WARNING & DON'T GO.

ThAnk You Yolanda for opening the door for me, despite it being close to 5pm. You answered all of my questions, while simultaneously working on the computer, the printer, the disk making machine and even a caller asking for assistance. I have never seen anyone multitask like that... wow! What coffee do you drink?! I truly appreciate you taking the time to help me get what I needed today, especially since it was last minute. Most people wouldn't even open the door. I appreciate You!!

I brought my other half to Howard due to she got bit on Sunday by an insect with poison. She had an infection and swollen. Informed by her doctor to go to ER to get the bite area drained. Arrived, could not believe only 4 free slots for parking for the patients being treated in the ER. If you aren't able to get these parking spaces then you as a patient have to pay for parking( street parking if any) and paid parking lot. SHAME Walking into the building, two drinking drunk guys sitting in front of the entrance of the ER. How welcoming?. The Security staff on duty pleasant and kind. The registration staff one lady stated she wasn't taking us by saying Oh, no!! I'm going to lunch!! The young lady that serve my other half pleasant and was professional. She told her to take a seat wait for her number to be called. While waiting we are able to see into triage. He had the door sitting wide open. He was just sitting there chilling. Patients waiting and asking questions. Finally, he decided to start triage. There were only 2 to triage. The first young lady was throwing up in a bag and my other half. Everyone else in the lobby was homeless wasn't being treated. The triage nurse informed my other half oh they aren't going to drain this. They are just going to give you some cream. Sent her to fast track. My other half said she had heard a female fussing in the back. We were sitting waiting this young lady comes out the door cussing the physician out. Later on, she apologized to the doctor and was helpful to people coming through the area. Her friend welp can you say something wasn't right with him. Before, she came out we thought he was a patient with mental issues. Come to find out they together. Now, they are arguing. There an older lady sitting by the trashcan. She is homeless. The gentleman across from us. He was wondering why he hadn't been called. The physician comes back out asked the gentleman his name came to find out he had been kicked out the system and have been sitting there all this time patiently not knowing he was not in the system. We continue to sit and time was going by. We decided to leave. We walked through the waiting area we once sat in to see more people homeless and people with mental issues within the sitting area. My other half had an infection from whatever bit her. Her foot was swollen and painful. She also had her foot drained unlike what the triage nurse at Howard University Hospital said. She has been placed on a few meds and required to stay off that foot and return in a few days to make sure everything is resolved. In and out. Don't understand why this couldn't happen at Howard

This was the worst hospital experience I've ever had. The nurses were rude, dismissive, and seemed angry throughout. Their behavior was incredibly unprofessional and disrespectful, especially during such a difficult time. The staff here urgently need training in empathy, professionalism, and patient care. Zero stars -- I sincerely hope this hospital rebrands or replaces its current staff because no family should ever be treated this way. 0star

Here at HUH for the first time for a dermatologist appointment. When I walked in the front door, the man behind the information desk called me over and gave me a sticker/badge to wear inside the hospital. I said it was my first time here and was looking for Suite 4300 to see the dermatologist. He mumbled something under his mask, and I asked him to speak up as I couldn't hear him well. He mumbled again and I had to ask him to speak up a second time. Finally, he spoke loud enough for me to understand I needed to walk to the back of the building and take the rear elevator up to the 4th floor. Once I got to Suite 4300 it wasn't much better, unfortunately. The two ladies behind the check-in counter looked up when I walked in and then looked back down at their paperwork. I walked over and said "Hi! I'm here for my appointment to see.." and was immediately cut off. One of them said, a bit curtly, "We'll be with you in a moment" and went back to her paperwork. I stood there for a few minutes until one of them put her papers aside and asked me for my name and ID. I got checked in pretty quickly after that as I had filled out all my info online ahead of time. I was then brought into the back within a few minutes by the nurse. From that point on, it was smooth sailing with a really great nurse and doctor experience. Solid appointment overall, but the first two interactions I had with the information & check-in staff both felt awkward. It was like I was bothering them by just being there doing what one is supposed to do when they come in for an appointment. First impressions matter, and I think it's important for any hospital to staff those frontline positions with friendly and helpful folks.

The worst hospital experience I've ever had. I was having issues with my heart rate. Two doctors standing beside each other took turns asking me if I used drugs. Several times. I watched people walk in and out of the back of the ER.
