Eye Center South

I had cataract surgery with Eye Center South they are the best, at least the one in Destin I went to. Dr. Andy Leoncavallo is awesome, explained everything thoroughly and in language I could understand. The surgery for me went better than I anticipated and I can see so much better now. Do not hesitate to use this group for your eye needs.

Very thorough office the people are excellent there they do a very great job.! The nurses and the doctors that are very nice and courteous and thoughtful they care about your well-being and if you feel like they want to be there to talk to you not just hurry up and rushing out thank you so much I look forward to seeing you again. As an eyecare professional myself, I absolutely had to take the time out, to recognize TESS at Eye Center South in Destin. I had a concern about a mutual patient of ours, who also happens to be a family member of mine. She thoroughly explained everything to me and answered all my questions. She took her time with me and did not rush me off the phone. I felt her sincerity in her voice. I will continue to send my patients to that office and what a blessing they have with Tess. Thank you.

Be prepared for all post op appointments to have a waiting time of one hour or more for a quick check. They do not accept criticism of their reception/administration system and I met a lot of other people complaining who needed to get back to work. No apology offered and no suggestion they would try to improve. The surgery was as expected, but a shame the rest of the package wasnt a good experience.

Dr Andy Leoncavallo is an absolutely knowledgeable and talented doctor that you can trust with your eyes! His passion to ensure that his patients receive the best possible care is unmatched, even calling every patient at the end of the day to ensure that they are feeling well and have no issues. My wife had cataract surgery and now has 20/20 vision thanks to Dr Andy! I'm scheduled in Nov for cataract surgery! Genesis is very knowledgable and ensures that you know everything about the procedure and answers any and all questions. All of the staff at EyeSouth are friendly and treats you like a valued customer! You cannot getter better care than with Dr Leoncavallo and Genesis!

The reason for only 1 star is the office experience. The front office staff interact with each other like a sitcom cast. I was unable to hear the questions from the staff member checking me in due to the "chaos" and breakroom noise from the 5 other staff members (standing 6 feet away) completely ignoring the patients trying to sign in. My wife and I tried to dismiss this as a "one-off" incident. Unfortunately, we were mistaken. On my follow up post surgery, the front desk staff was outright rude and uninterested in providing professional, compassionate care. The receptionist at the front desk did not let my wife finish explaining who I was post surgery. The receptionist just interrupted my wife saying "He eat yet?" No care or concern for us as people - zero compassion - just checking the box. When you go in be sure to be ready to stand your ground and demand that they act like they are in a doctor's office and not the lunch room. The last comment I'll make about the check in process is that this is 2025 where I can get checked in at Quest Diagnostics via a text or an iPad app in the office. Yet, an eye center expects patients with eye problems to hand print their name on a pull tab with all the chaos going on in the office "pit" behind the desk. Eye Center South needs to update to electronic tools with large font to allow sight challenged people to check in without having to be ignored by the front desk staff too interested in each other to even notice a patient.

My husband and I have been patients at Eye South for years. We have typically been pleased with the service even though at times, we've had to wait 20-30 minutes before bring seen by the doctor. My husband had an appointment on 8/28/25 that Eye South had to reschedule due to the doctor needing to leave early that day. His appointment was rescheduled for 9/4/25 at 2:40. Due to traffic, we were 17 minutes late. We were told we couldn't be seen by the doctor because we were more than 15 minutes late. I understand we were late but I think staff should consider a little more grace.....how about 20 minutes?
