Terrific experience! Tyler, Dr. Chun, & Garrett were great. Dr. Chun is super friendly and incredibly knowledgeable and also explains things well. Dr. Chun picked better contacts for me that better fit my lifestyle. I never felt pressured to buy anything. I'm very happy! :) I feel confident that I'm in great care.
The doctors made an effort to make me feel comfortable, and I appreciated that. However, I only went to get a prescription for my contacts and Gainesville Vision took my insurance.
The maximum copay should've been $10 due to my yearly exam, but they told me that I had to sign an additional form that I purposefully didn't sign. It had a series of fees for things that I didn't want and a standard $39 flat-fee. I really wish I didn't sign that, but they gave my forms back to me and told me to sign it, that my signature was missing, and I wish I hadn't signed that.
In the end, I had no choice but to pay $184 for an exam to get my prescription information for contacts. I would've appreciated knowing that I would pay such a high amount for an exam only, so I feel that there is no price transparency.
I entered just wanting a simple, covered exam with my prescription information to get contacts. I left with no other choice but to pay almost $200 for that information. I know I'm probably going to get a reply about how high-tech their tools are and whatnot, but I still wish there was that transparency so that I didn't leave feeling taken advantage of.
I was told I had "mild astigmatism" but that it was so small that there were no contacts for it. I didn't feel like I had that condition and did not identify with the symptoms, but they charged me $150 for being diagnosed with it.
In previous eye exams (including one about six months prior to this one), I also was never told I had that. The contacts I used to have from those eye exams were perfect for me as well. I wish I didn't pay for something that didn't affect me at all, and something other doctors have never charged me for.
They sort of just went about these tests that I didn't want and then charged me for it at the end. For my signature, they told me that I had to sign a form I didn't want to sign because of the fees that were on it. I just wanted one, simple yearly exam with a copay of $10 that was literally provided by my insurance.
I saw the assistant writing down the prices in whole numbers, no decimals, and no accuracy and it just didn't feel right.
Also, they didn't ask for my ID, which I felt was odd.
Edited: They refunded me in full and said they would not bill my insurance when I brought up my concerns, which I never expected would happen. I appreciate the good faith gesture from them and have changed my review to reflect that action, but please note my concerns are unresolved. For instance, being charged for a diagnosis so mild that contacts didn't exist for it, and not getting documentation of said diagnosis or recommendations for lenses on my Rx paper but being pushed to purchase the lens recommendation (toric for mild astigmatism) in store for $300. I don't understand why I'd be charged almost $500 in total with nothing in writing despite the advanced technology constantly being mentioned. How can I trust purchasing toric lenses there for mild astigmatism when my provided prescription papers don't mention that? I can understand it accidentally being left out, but the other problems I experienced only frustrated me more. Regardless, they refunded me and did not bill my insurance even though I didn't ask, so they were quick to mitigate my problems.
**Updated, please read to the end** We recently visited Gainesville Vision for an eye exam and left genuinely impressed with almost every aspect of the experience. The location is fantastic: easy to find, plenty of free parking, and the building itself looks brand new. The waiting area and exam rooms are spotless, modern, and clearly well-maintained. Everything feels upscale and professional without being stuffy. The staff earns every bit of five-star praise. From the young man at the front desk to the doctor, everyone was warm, patient, and genuinely attentive. They took their time explaining everything, answered all of our questions, and never made us feel rushed. The exam itself was thorough and the $40 fee felt completely reasonable.
Unfortunately, the experience took a turn once we moved to selecting glasses. What felt like a focused sales pitch followed the exam: the optician presented only one high-end option that started at roughly $1,200 (on top of the $550 insurance contribution). When we explained that the price simply wasn't feasible right now, we weren't shown any more affordable alternatives or even budget-friendly frames -- we were just thanked for our time, asked to settle the bill, and politely shown the door. My wife, who had been excitedly waiting to replace her five-year-old glasses, left extremely disappointed. Later that evening things took a turn for the better. I was pleasantly surprised to be contacted directly by Garrett. He had taken the time to read my feedback, reached out personally, and clarified everything with patience and professionalism. Instead of being defensive, he genuinely wanted to understand our concerns and make it right.
Garrett correctly explained the pricing structures clearly, offered fair solutions, and scheduled us for a revisit the day after Thanksgiving. When we arrived, he was already there waiting--prompt, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable. He walked us through the pros and cons of various frame options, never rushing us, and helped us find the absolute perfect pair. His expertise and caring attitude completely turned the experience around.
What could have been a frustrating situation became one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. Garrett didn't just fix a problem--he went above and beyond to earn our trust and loyalty.
Thank you, Garrett, for your dedication and for truly caring about your customers. Gainesville Vision is lucky to have you. You single-handedly transformed a 4-star visit into an enthusiastic 5-star recommendation. We'll be back, and we'll be asking for you by name! Highly recommend.
Just had a great experience at Gainesville Vision. Dr. Chun did a great job explaining my vision problem and the treatment plan. If you're looking for a great optometrist in Gainesville, I highly recommend this group.
Exceeded expectations in all ways. I have a very difficult prescription and Dr. Chun did an amazing job finding solutions. Very kind, professional and easy to talk to. Truly an expert in his field. Highly recommend.
Pros: I had no difficulties with getting an appointment. Everything was sent via text for me to complete before arriving so there was no additional wait time required for completing the paperwork.
I can't remember the young ladies name that was the tech. However she was very patient with me as my eyes do not care to have anyone or anything coming close to them. So I did a lot of blinking and eye closing.
I absolutely loved Dr. Robinson! He was very friendly throughout the whole exam.
Cons: Pricing. The lenses are extremely expensive at least for me. Even with my insurance I was looking at paying almost $650. just for the lenses. When asked for less expensive alternatives, I was told by the young gentleman my options were utilize a payment plan. Proceed by he's not there to pressure me as it would not benefit him one way or the other. I found that to be a little rude.
Unfortunately, I am now back to square one.
Love this practice. Everyone was nice, professional and knowledgeable. Dr. Nobel was thorough and explained my condition and options. I will recommend to my husband and daughter!
It wasn't no one there to greet me as I walked in. The doctor was amazing- the office staff not so much. I live 45 minutes away from the office. I was in Gainesville for other appts that I had earlier in the day and finished early. I called to see if they could get me in before my time. They said yes, yet I still had to wait. Also, after I was done seeing the doctor, the assistant told me what my copay was and printed off my prescription. She never once asked if I wanted to see glasses. It was around lunch time so I assume that they were ready for lunch. What's the point in having an eye exam - but not show me glasses. It felt rushed with that lady. Mind you, it was my first time at this facility. They didn't even mention a yearly follow up. Still don't have any glasses
