TLDR: They will not give you your prescription as leverage to scam you. They will also claim that your insurance won't cover things that it does cover.
This place literally held my husband hostage there today because they were trying to scam him out of $45. Their "logic" is that if he wasn't buying their very overpriced glasses then he had to pay for the exam which they claimed wasn't covered by his insurance. They had him sitting there after the place closed waiting to scam him while withholding his prescription. They were even trying to get him to pay half of a pair of glasses in order to give him his prescription. Guess what? His insurance told him the exam was covered while on loudspeaker. His appointment was at 5pm and he finally got home around 8pm. This place is maybe 5 minutes away. We will be contacting his insurance and at the very least the FTC and the Florida Board of Medicine as this is very much some awfully dumb people preying on patients. They even tried to schedule another appointment, what a joke.
The office assistants are not professional, the wait was over 2hrs even with an appointment, did not feel confident in the help I got with my glasses and when my contacts finally came in I was not able to completely see with them on. Felt like my contacts prescription was wrong. When I confronted them about it they told me "you might see a little differently with your contacts because they are not glasses." I've had contacts before from another place and NEVER had a problem. I've only been here once and I will definitely never go back again. I recommend everyone I know to a different place.
Extremely unprofessional office I have never received worse service at an eye doctor, extremely ameteur and inefficient systems for appointments. Please note that you will be waiting for more than 3-4 hours after your "scheduled appointment" it is almost disrespectful how little they care for your time and money. I would never recommend using this office
Before scheduling an appointment for my children I called Dr. Raphael Perez's office to verify that Staywell Medicaid was accepted. The office assistant informed me that this insurance was accepted. When I get there it was a different story. After almost waiting for an hour I was called and advised that with Staywell there is a$35 copayment and my total bill wil be $210. When I questioned the charge I was told Staywell made changes and now I have to pay a copayment which was a big lie... what they failed to inform was they were no longer in network and I would be paying as if i did not have medical coverage.. this office got $70 out of me when I could went to a doctor in network and pay no cost at all.. I only trusted them because my kids went there before and paid nothing. So disappointed that the front desk assistant knowingly lied to me..wonder how many innocent people they did this to.
I have been a patient of perez for over 6 years. Never had a problem. My husband and youngest son WERE his patients as well. We all went to see him just this August 2020. Paying cash customers, no insurance. A few days after picking up my eyeglasses I returned to the office because I was seeing blurry through them. I was told to return when perez was in, that he would take care of me. When I got to see him I told him that I felt the new eyeglasses were just like my old ones. He took the eye wear and bent the frames to I guess adjust the lens so I can see better? I remember trying to read the signs they have behind the front desk and I still saw blurry. But I went home thinking my eyes have to adjust to the frames and trusting him even though his humor was condescending. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt even though my gut was telling me the problem was with the lens not the frames! Yes I returned to him again with the same problem this time the eyeglasses were tight on me leaving marks on my nose and they fell crooked on my face because of all the bending HE did to the frames from the last visit. He finally comes over and he acknowledges they look tight and crooked (which is what he did.) He takes the frames and bends them again and again. This is not fixing the lens! I'm expressing to him that I cannot see clearly with them. He mentions it takes time to adjust, my brain, my ears. Inside I was yelling what! "are you kidding me." I know it's the lens. He doesn't offer to check the lens ever. I had to ask him to check the lens of the new and old eyeglasses. He says he did and comes back saying there is a slight difference. Then he suggests I get a picture of my retina taken which is another 45-55 dollars. I leave unhappy knowing nothing was done but I am being civil. I know I'm going back to him. I am already feeling more upset, and I am the one that has the right to be exacerbated not him . Worst of all I am DISAPPOINTED!!! I decided to go somewhere else and I had then check the prescriptions of both eyeglasses. They are exactly the same prescription! What I highly suspected all along. I am beyond upset now so my husband is handling the situation to return the eyeglasses and get a refund. I have lost faith and trust in him. Nothing he can do but return my hard earned money. My husband waited a week to hear from him and nothing. Now they tell my husband his wife will call and nothing. Easy fix I return the eyewear and you refund me. Where is the service, the honesty, admitting someone messed up. I would have more respect for that. But it's not over. I am filing complaints everywhere I can! How sad for the patients who trust him. I am a diabetic and concern was not extended to me. All it takes is one major neglect to show true colors.
I called Dr. Raphael Perez's office to verify that insurance was accepted. The office assistant informed me that this insurance was accepted, . When I get there it was a different story. The assistant that is the worst person with attitud told i was aprove, im going what the vsp said charge will be online using this doctor, After almost waiting for 2 hr was called , the doctor did my exam put some drop on twice then ask me some questions, tell me to try some contact. When im ready to pay i was told a different story about fee n copay, When I questioned the charge I was told the insurance cover minimum that u most have the cheap coverage, they might told u wrong info.. I have to pay a copayment which was a big lie...they charge more than other places..again the lady in the front desk is the worst employee a company could get. Im So disappointed that the front desk assistant knowingly lied to me..wonder how many innocent people they did this to... the place is worthless,,,,
I had a really bad experience in this office. Don't recommend this doctor. The owner lady and the doctor are thief. I brought my own frames and they all had a plan and they stole my glass from the frames that I bought in which their plan was that they wanted me to buy a new pair of frame. You can tell the lady owner was fuming just because I didn't buy them a pair of frames. Don't waist your time here or your money. Not worthy
Worst place to visit. The old lady that helps out in the reception is the worst, very unprofessional, she is a thieve, she takes advantage of patients and charge more than expected. She wants to give you the most expensive to earn her commission . Wait time over 3 hrs with appointment. We should send them the police. Never going back again.
