For a place that claims to specialize in children, we were severely disappointed in the care we received.
While the ophthalmologist seemed kind and knowledgeable, there is no excuse to wait 2 hours with a baby for an appointment. I should have read these reviews prior to scheduling our appointment but heard wonderful things about the practice, are there are limited options for children in the county we live in.
Our appointment was at 10:15 and we arrived promptly at 10. After checking in and waiting around 30 minutes, they took us back to dilate our 5 month old's eyes and ask basic questions. They then said that the doctor would be with us in 20 minutes. 30 minutes, then 35 minutes went by, then 40 minutes. Our baby was getting tired from being up and I had to pump breast milk as we didn't anticipate waiting over an hour just to see the practitioner.
We went to the desk to express our concern and they were able to put us in a room so I could pump while waiting on our room to open up for the doctor to examine our baby in. They said it would only be a "couple of minutes" as he walked out of the patient's room just as we went back. 10, then 15, then 20 minutes lapsed. Finally they put us in an exam room and another 10 minutes later the doctor came in.
If you advertise you specialize in the treatment of young children, it is ill informed care to expect families to wait several hours to receive treatment. If I would have heard this from the call I made the appointment on, I would have declined. Overbooking appointments like this is simply putting profits over patient care.
I don't know what alternate universe the people leaving 1 star reviews are in, but it's not mine. I've been going to eye doctors for 50 years and this was the most thorough eye exam I have ever had. The techs and Dr. Thomas were great. This office is a little farther from my home, but it is now my permanent eye doctor.
The worst. My daughter is a dual citizen in Colombia. Would have taken less time to fly to Bogota to see the doctor. Why make an appointment when the wait takes forever.
My step daughter is literally "legally blind" and this so called Doctor Blumenfeld or any doctor employed by this practice is refusing to see her because she was "hard to deal with" WHEN SHE WAS 3 YEARS OLD. (That's also over 12 years ago.)
Trash doctors. Trash practice. Blumenfeld is someone I can't recommend going to.
I scheduled a cataract consult on July 25th after being referred following retinal surgery. The earliest available slot was September 3rd. At booking, the staff confirmed I was in-network. Then, on August 20th--nearly a month later--I received a call saying "unfortunately they had to cancel" my appointment because I was out-of-network. I was told I would need to reschedule as a self-pay patient.
A humane, care-oriented practice would have held my appointment for 24 hours, giving me the chance to confirm and continue as self-pay. Instead, they unilaterally canceled, pushing me to the back of the line for their mistake. That's not merely "unfortunate." It's a harmful policy: patients lose weeks toward recovery, treated as interchangeable. I'm currently blind in one eye. They should take responsibility for their errors and have policies to mitigate them. No wonder so many reviews are negative.
Dr. Viki was so amazing with Johnny! She's so gentle, kind, and knows her stuff. We felt very reassured in her care!
This office refused to see my one-year-old with an eye injury simply because I was honest about going to an Orlando Health ER first. Yet, the ER is the one who referred me to their practice. They even admitted that if I hadn't told them, they would have seen her. That is cruel, discriminatory, and shows zero care for patients.
When you are one of the only pediatric ophthalmologists in the area, turning away an injured baby is beyond shameful. Families deserve better.
My experience with Eye Physicians of Central Florida - MetroWest was unacceptable. I brought my daughter, a first-time patient, to an important appointment. Despite arriving on time and completing all required documentation in advance -- which took real effort and empathy on my part to ensure we were prepared -- the staff was so disorganized that we missed the appointment time due to their delay, not ours. To make matters worse, they rescheduled us at a much farther location, showing a complete lack of professionalism or concern. Not even the front desk supervisor made the slightest effort to resolve the situation. Overall, the service we received was terrible, and I would not recommend this place under any circumstances."
