I am a very long time patient of Dr. Cartwright. He did my cataracts and also vision correction, awesome service , Always a long wait but for me worth the wait. In 2024 I did call in and also text back confirming cancellation of appt due to a medical issue that came up and I am still being billed as a no show; despite calling in. Other than that very happy with care
Updated Review (with Response to Clinic's Reply)
I appreciate your response, but it does not reflect my actual experience. Dr. Cartwright told me before surgery that he would perform a manual limbal relaxing incision (LRI) instead of implanting a toric lens, assuring me he could extend the incision "if something went wrong." Something did go wrong--my vision was left with residual and irregular astigmatism--but no adjustment was ever made, and no corrective plan was offered.
At my post-op appointment, when I tried to explain my symptoms, I was interrupted, called "a difficult patient," and Dr. Cartwright walked out mid-sentence to perform another surgery. To now claim this remark referred only to "inconsistent measurements" is inaccurate. The issue was not inconsistent data--it was the unwillingness to listen to and address clear patient concerns.
Your statement about strict cleanliness also does not match what I personally observed: I was taken into the operating room wearing street shoes, and when I asked if that was acceptable, staff told me it was "fine." This is not reassuring for any patient undergoing eye surgery.
Your reply reads like a template and sidesteps the facts of my case. My vision remains impaired, and independent evaluations confirmed residual and irregular astigmatism directly resulting from the surgical decision. Patients deserve respect, honesty, and accountability--not deflection.
Summary of the original review:
I regret choosing Dr. Monty Cartwright at Medical Eye Associates (Kissimmee/Orlando) for cataract surgery on my left eye in June 2025. As a Medicare patient and a Ph.D. in optical engineering with decades of experience in imaging systems, I specifically requested a toric intraocular lens to correct preexisting astigmatism and even offered to pay out-of-pocket. My request was dismissed, and Dr. Cartwright instead performed an LRI.
The result was disastrous. Within weeks, I experienced monocular diplopia, blurred and unstable vision, ghosting, and significant light scatter--symptoms I never had before. At my post-op visit, I tried to explain these serious symptoms, but Dr. Cartwright abruptly interrupted me, called me "a difficult patient," and walked out mid-sentence to perform another surgery. This was not only dismissive but profoundly unprofessional. Instead of listening to my concerns, he insisted I had 20/20 vision based on a fleeting eye chart moment, ignoring my repeated reports of double vision and distortion.
Several "options" were briefly mentioned, but they were superficial and inadequate. A second opinion from my previous ophthalmologist (who performed flawless surgery on my right eye) and from my optometrist both confirmed residual and irregular astigmatism--problems I did not have before surgery. I now require a rigid gas permeable contact lens and may need LASIK just to restore useful vision in my left eye.
The concerns extend beyond judgment. Wait times at this clinic often exceed 2-3 hours, with only 5-10 minutes of rushed doctor interaction. On the day of surgery, I was taken into the operating room wearing street shoes. A nurse told me, "As long as it's not near your eyes, it's fine." That reflects troubling standards for any surgical environment.
This experience has left me with impaired vision, thousands in extra costs, and no accountability. I strongly caution anyone considering care at Medical Eye Associates or under Dr. Monty Cartwright. My outcome should never have happened.
This review reflects my personal experience and is supported by evaluations from licensed professionals. It is provided in good faith to inform others.
Would not recommend I had an emergency appointment @2pm wasn't seen until 4pm then I told them how much pain I was in because of my stye they told me they couldn't remove it or prescribe anything because of "insurance" this isn't the old days . Jo.... She then proceeded to try to scare me to not do my follow up appointment with the doctor in house and go to the surgery center because I wouldn't be under anesthesia and I would have a LONG needle in my eye... All this to say as soon as I get home from being in so much pain my stye pops on its own wasted Copay.
I had an excellent visit with Dr Cartwright today! Loved his personality and clear knowledge of my medical conditions & medications and how they might impact my eyes. I could tell he cared and wanted to help me as much as possible. The office staff at check in & check out were personable and helpful, and Dr Cartwright's assistant was amazing! She's been with him I think 26-27 years, they communicate almost telepathically, lol. She finishes typing into the computer after he leaves the room, and happily answered a few other questions I thought of. I have no complaints about my wait time. My appt was at 8:30, saw tech for eye screenings, medical & eye history, etc around 8:40. Eyes dilated around 9:00, sent to dilation waiting area, saw Dr around 9:15. I felt it reasonable and very well worth the wait!! Highly recommend!!
Very unprofessional services. The front desk doesn't know what they are doing, overcharge the patient. Very defficult to reach a resolution. When i try to call them, they starts kick me back and forth from different department. Bad experences ever. I strongly suggested my insurance provider remove this doctor office from their network.
I've been coming to Medical Eye Associates for about the last five years. Dr. Cartwright explains things very well. Albeit, you might have to ask about a treatment if you don't know about it. I was told by the office, that from you appointment time to the time you leave, it will take two hours. I have always found this to be the case so I come prepared knowing that I will be there for a while. I highly recommend Dr. Cartwright. So much so that I got my mother to stop seeing her doctor and she is also Dr. Cartwright's patient. We are very happy with him. I've always found the people at the front desk helpful.
Unprofessional service and staff. The Orlando office is always a mess. Took my 82 years old mother for a glaucoma consultation, was told to come back for a more specialized diagnosis, been in the office 3 times since past May, first two times walk in and nobody was in the office, gave all sorts of excuses, which tells me what little they care for people.
When the testing was done, while at the office waiting for 2 hours, we were told that they needed to re-schedule because Doctor was leaving the office. Needless to say we won't be back, and would not recommend this doctor to anyone!
They would not even provide my mom's medical records ( I wanted them right there and then) I was given another ridiculous excuse for not being able to provide it. One word : awful
my two and a half year old daughter's eyes crossed I got a referral for this place in mid-January for earliest appointment in April 20th just to confirm she would need glasses for them to schedule another appointment for July 12th to tell me they wouldn't accept my plan. the time gaps are ridiculous, very limited parking for the amount of people scheduled to be in the office very tight space even dangerous entrance including a water leak that anyone could slip from. they could have at least gave me a courtesy call to say they we're not accepting my plan anymore. a waste of 7 months gas, tolls, and heartbreaking for me I had to dilate my daughter's eyes since Monday at home for Wednesday appointment for her to not be helped. and all they have to say is "I'm sorry."
