I am 67 and was told since I lost so much vision in my left eye that I probably had an eye stroke, so I made and appointment to see this Dr. Gaasch who immediately calmed me down with his patience & kindness and did a full work-up even the back of my eyeball. He let me know all that was wrong was I had dry eye and told me what to order online. I was so blessed to meet this intelligent doctor who genuinely cared about my panic attacks, and I have had no problems with my eye since seeing him. Great experience with Dr. Gaasch and will always use this Doctor in the future. Jenny Galloway.
The first appointment was in April 2023. The doctor (male) did the eye exam which was rushed. My husband asked him to slow down during the exam. My husband questioned the exam and the prescription but the doctor insisted that it was correct. When my husband took the prescription to get his glasses the tech asked him are you sure this is correct? Well, when the glasses were made and he tried them on he couldn't see at all.
I called Emory in May 2023 and asked to see another doctor but was told for a "recheck" we have to see the same doctor.
This time I went along with my husband and the doctor got offended because I questioned how this prescription could be so far off from the last one that was done a year ago with Emory that he never bothered to review. If the doctor cared he would have looked at last year's prescription and figured out it wasn't right and saved us another visit and charge that I'm not paying.
The doctor had to write another prescription and had the nerve to tell us...have the tech call me because I asked him.. who was going to pay for another pair of glasses this time with the right prescription. He never apologized and we definitely won't go back to the midtown location.
Although I experienced helpful customer service via the phone, the difficulty of scheduling is very off putting. The scheduling with this office has been an ordeal. My initial appointment was made in October for the first week of December, and it was canceled. My second appointment was canceled in January which does not help me with my end of year benefit. The only reason I go here is because I work from Emory. However, if you do not, please take your business elsewhere.
Completely disappointed! I'm giving 2 stars only because of the administrative staff and clinical assistants. Dr. Collins gets ZERO stars! Our appointment was set about a month out. I wanted my husband to go to Emory Eye Center for him to see Dr. Peragallo since he has raving reviews. However, we were told that we first had to see an Optometrist and get a diagnosis before we can see Dr. Peragallo so the appointment was set to see Dr. Thomas Collins.. The first part of the visit with the 2 ladies and their examination was great. They were informative, thorough and very nice. Next, Dr. Collins walked in and says "This is for a routine eye exam, right? (Either he had not read any of my husband's medical documentation or he just didn't care...or maybe both) We said No. We had already explained in great detail what was going on with 2 other clinical staff who had completed some evaluations on my husband. He asked my husband if his vision ever gets blurry. My husband said No, but I corrected him and said, remember you have said that it does get blurry. My husband is dealing with a serious medical issue right now and sometimes gets confused or forget. It's even in the clinical notes (written by Emory Eye Center staff) on his Emory MyChart about how he'd mentioned blurry vision. He looked at my husband and told him his issue was due to old age and nothing could be done about it. My husband is only 50. What he is experiencing is NOT something that most 50 years old experience. I asked him to refer my husband to one of the specialists for further evaluation given my husband has a certain medical condition. He refused saying that his symptoms were not bad enough and the specialists are booked out very far anyway. That was infuriating. My husband deals with this issue everyday throughout the day. I will absolutely be getting a second opinion. I absolutely DO NOT recommend this doctor! Horrible! He spent about 5 minutes in the room with us.
I just received a call that one of my trial contact lenses (just the right eye) was available. My appointment was 5 months ago, and several messages asking when I'd receive my trial lenses went unanswered. The prescription was not a difficult one to obtain.
Took me a few months to get an eye appointment with an ophthalmologist to check the freckle in my eye. Got an appointment scheduled. Filled out all the paperwork online printed out what I needed arrived early for the appointment and was checked in. The medical assistant check to be in checked meds gave her previous doctor's notes and advised her I was there to have the freckle in my eye checked. The next medical assistant took me in to test and photograph my eyes I inserted that she needs to make sure she gets pictures of the freckle in my right eye and she said she would. Finally got to see the doctor she never read any of the notes, didn't know about the freckle in the eye and was extremely rude. I'll be filing a report with the state and hopefully my money will be refunded to my insurance and I'll be able to see a real doctor at another facility. If not I'm going to return to my prior doctor that lives in another state as Emory's ophthalmology department lacks.
I went to Emory Downtown because I was going blind in one eye and I was terrified. The staff there were kind and as helpful as they could be to me. They made me relaxed and comfortable at a frightening time in my life and I am forever thankful to them. Dr. Yan was professional and thorough in explaining how they would help me. She put me totally at ease and made something horrifying easy for me. I'm a big chicken but it never hurt even a little to get the shot in my eye. I will be forever grateful to the Emory staff and Dr. Yan for giving me the site back in my eye. I highly recommend going to Emory Midtown they are great people.
The appt took 3 hours and 45 minutes from moment I checked in, to checkout for my 7 year old with special needs. Front desk staff ate cheetos and cut jokes and watched tv, at one point another staff member walked by and made fun of the front desk staff for sleeping. After 30 minutes of waiting and watching people who checked in way after us be seen I approached and asked why we had been waiting so long. Much conversation was had then a whopping 50 min after arrival my child was seen by a technician whos work space was a mess and she honestly seemed very scattered and unable to communicate simple directions to my 7 year old. She then proceeded to spring dilation on us, I was completely unaware and never asked if it was okay. I was never asked to assist. She wrestled my child, shoes went flying, mask broke, and left us furious. I was pushed out to return to a waiting room for dilation processing that was so full with patients who had just finished with cataract surgery, there was no where for us to sit together. My child was so upset by the ordeal we both cried.
There were also patients being wheeled up to the 18th floor from the ER for eye issues to triage in the same waiting room that has many pediatric patients. Felt very inappropriate to have to ER patients next to crying children while they are obviously going through something horrible themselves and have to sit in a hospital gown.
I realize this central waiting room is for multiple Dr. working from it, so my child is not seeing a ER or Cataract doctor. My point is pediatrics should not be sharing the same waiting room, where there is no room for children to be children. Cataract patients and ER triage should not have to listen to the nerve racking crying of children held down for procedures while they are trying to recover themselves. (My child was NOT the only child there crying)
During our dialtion wait multiple pediatric parents got up and went to the desk to complain about wait time, one mother upon check out flat out refused to make another follow appt because of the wait time. One mom took her crying 2 year old in the hall to calm down after tech exam, came back and told the front desk she couldn't put him through it, when the technician was so incompetent and said she wouldn't return.
We finally see Dr Lenhart 2 hours and 55 minutes after arrival. I made comments about making a child wait that long. She was kind and said she would file a formal complaint, because it had happened recently.
When I made this appt a year ago, I was unaware it was at the Midtown location. I received no appt notification, but happened to call to ask of exact time a week before to be told I needed to go to this location on Peachtree NE.
I should say we specifically see Dr Lenhart because of her pediatric specialties. She is kind, and clearly a great doctor with my child. This is the first time seeing her at the midtown location, we typically go to the Clifton rd office. For the past 3 years we have gone to the Clifton Rd location, Ive never experienced this type of wait, disorganization and downright incompetency from staff. The technician at the Clifton Rd office has been wonderful and respectful in the past. This was all very shocking and upsetting.
Emory is doing an amazingly poor job of training staff, communicating with patients and treating patients as real people. Shame on them. Do better. Be better.
