I've been going to Chittick for years! I love Dr. Whit. He has been soooo helpful an caring. He has so much knowledge. I once asked my retiring eye doctor, what was I going to do (contact wearer since 1965) without him? He told me twhat Dr. Whit had more knowledge and fitting experience than him. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
I am a current UIUC student, and I had a very bad experience at this office.
I visited on 12/11/2025 for conjunctivitis and scheduled a follow-up appointment for 1/6.
When I arrived on 1/6, the front desk told me I could not be seen because my insurance had denied the previous claim submitted by the provider, and my appointment was moved to 1/7. I was confused, so after I got home, I contacted BCBS. The representative I spoke with said they could not see any claim from December.
On 1/7, I returned to the office and explained this to the front desk. I asked whether the claim from my previous visit on 12/11 could be resubmitted. The staff member gave inconsistent answers -- first saying that the claim from my 12/11 visit could not be resubmitted but that a claim for that day's visit could be filed, and then later saying that the previous claim might be possible to try resubmitting.
The staff member then asked for my insurance card and insisted that only a physical card was acceptable. I explained that I only had an electronic card and photos, but the staff member refused and said they could not print anything. After multiple attempts, the process only continued after I told them I could email the information.
While still at the office, I called BCBS again. This time, I reached a representative who could see the full claim details and told me the claim had been denied due to an incorrect group number submitted by the provider. I shared this information with the front desk staff. However, after "checking," the staff member insisted that the submitted information was correct and refused to show me the claim when I asked to review it.
I called BCBS again and received confirmation of the incorrect group number that had been submitted. Even then, the staff member continued to insist there was no error and still refused to show the claim. When I pointed out that what I was being told conflicted with what my insurance had confirmed, the staff member became angry and asked me to leave.
Later communications with the office manager confirmed that the claim had indeed been submitted without the correct group number, and that BCBS had already notified them on 12/17 to verify my information. However, no one ever contacted me after that notification.
What made me angry was not the billing mistake itself, but being repeatedly told information that was not true and being refused transparency. As a patient, this completely destroyed my trust. Shifting responsibility onto the patient instead of acknowledging an error is unacceptable.
This place is amazing. The facility is well appointed, comfortable and inviting. However, the real bonus is the people! I am always treated with courtesy and care by the entire staff. Most importantly Dr. Whitt is absolutely the best. He is thorough, professional, considerate and kind. I have other options when it comes to my eye care but I always prefer to see Dr. Whitt!
I've been going here for over a decade. The service is the best. They are thorough with their exams and are very professional and helpful.
One Christmas Eve, a torn contact lens scratched my eye and irritated it so bad I had to see someone about it. Dr. Witt made himself available that late evening to help me and I was very grateful. I highly recommend this place.
Dr. Witt identified the source of a problem I've had following an Intra Ocular Lens implant 3 1/2 years ago (not done at Chittick) and referred me to Dr Braich at their Danville location. Dr Braich was able to use a laser to correct the problem to a VERY significant degree. My vision is much clearer and I am seeing 20/20 with very little correction. This has been quite a positive experience.
Everyone was super friendly. I got an appointment right away. The doctor, Dr. Rix, was very straightforward and thorough. I appreciated that. They have all the high tech gadgets and he thoroughly explained what each image was, my results, and what some of the information really meant. The girl who did the initial testing had great energy and was very efficient. The staff at the front desk were light and fun and also efficient. The optician understood I wasn't getting glasses that day and gave me some info going forward in case I wanted to come back in to get glasses there. The only negative was that I was not given my prescription and had to email them later to get it. It would've been nice just to get a copy with my payment paperwork at the end. Otherwise it was great and I will definitely be going back.
Working off of a cancellation system in which you don't schedule people appointments you just called them one day and say hey somebody cancel for today or tomorrow can you make it and if you already have other obligations, they act as if what you have going on in life doesn't matter they cannot accommodate their patients. They don't have any system in which they are scheduling actual appointments so that you can make sure your schedule is open and you have time it's more like you're working on their time...It's a provider base system and not a patient base system.... The lack of providers and for all of their facilities to operate like this is something that I have never heard of it does not benefit people and it's a way for them to not have to see certain groups of people. Whoever thought of this system doesn't care about people they just care about profit because if you are so backed up in appointments that you cannot schedule any appointment and everyone must wait on someone else to cancel why are you even open and they have multiple offices and all of them operate like this it makes no sense... The people who answer the phone is working in the office they are passive aggressive it's a negative form of communication passed off as positive but it's nice nasty
Dr Witt goes above & beyond to make sure your prescription is the best. The staff are so friendly & helpful. It's an hor & 15 minutes drive & we'll worth it.
