Dr. Milap Mehta

Today marks my one year of surviving a stroke and still having a 4inch clot in my brain. Dr Mehta was instrumental in my recovery. He was at Northwestern Kish hospital the first night. He became more than one of the stroke team, he became a great friend. I was in ICU for 5 days. The hospital was amazing and Dr. Mehta and the team never gave up. We are so lucky to have so many incredible doctors so close to us. I was never just a patient, I was a person. I am doing GREAT.

Let me preface this review by saying that anyone who wants detailed information on this review may reach out, I'm happy to answer any questions. Over 4 months ago I went for consultation and was assured that the eyelid surgery was needed and that I would be able to see better afterwords. I'm a 54 yr old woman, other than my eyelids i think I'm doing ok for my age.. but Dr Mehta tells me he can give me a brow lift too.. I was a little taken aback.. I didn't want a "brow lift" and I didn't think I needed it. Later to find out that it was code for "covered by insurance". So I brush it off, say no thank you and move on the scheduling lady, Norma, who's difficult from the onset. Dr Mehta thinks the surgery can be done in 2 weeks, and Norma says :no way, we are 3 months out". A little frustrated, I schedule 4 months out when I can take off of work. 2 months later I call Norma to get details on surgery and she says "the hospital will call you a few days before to tell you what time your surgery is. I ask her if insurance is all taken care of and she says, with a little hesitation, everything will be fine. She seemed a little annoyed when I asked her where the surgery was going to be..as if I was supposed to know that. No other information was given to me, just that I was supposed to wait till the Friday before the surgery for all the information, that she didn't know anything else. This is the scheduling woman I was speaking to.. not the receptionist. A week before the surgery I call Norma again to see if I can get a contact name at the hospital to better prepare. It was then I found out that they submitted my information to the Insurance co with the wrong birth date and they never followed up on it. BCBS kicked it back and they didn't re submit. So now after 4 months of stressing and planning it's 6 days before the surgery and they have no approval. The circus went on from there with many phone calls back and forth and a lot of BS. Ultimately they told me this: (And this is going to be hard to believe.. that an ocular surgeon who trained at The Cleveland Clinic, would be ok with this) They wanted me to prepare for the surgery, "fast" the night before, get ready to leave and wait for them to get last minute approval from BCBS. So I should prepare and then when they say GO! I get my care giver to drive me the 1.5 hours to Macneal hospital and have the surgery. Just like that. 4 months of stress and planning and they're scheduling this eye surgery like a hair cut. Before writing this, I made the Practice Manager, Amanda, aware of this review. I think it's terrible to solicit business by promising something you aren't prepared to follow through with. I am a small business owner. I had to do a lot of preparing to take off a week of work. There are many other people involved, it wasn't just me that was effected. My apologies in advance for any spelling/grammar i'm too aggravated to spell check my review. ` DO NOT USE Milap Mehta!! This place is there solely to push claims through insurance companies to schedule more surgeries, whether they're needed or not. It's a 3rd rate clinic.

Dr. Mehta is kind, friendly, and extremely professional. I had an excellent experience under his care and would highly recommend him to friends and family.
