Midwest Eye Institute: Hemang C. Patel, MD

Dr. Patel is a wonderful doctor and surgeon. I have nothing but good things to say about him. It's unfortunate that almost all of the staff members I have encountered either in office or over the phone have been rude, short or nasty. Only a couple of the assistants have been pleasant. When I called last week to get help with a billing issue, the lady who answered wouldn't let me speak, must have thought she muted the phone or put me on hold and began talking about me to a coworker. It's very disappointing especially when you're paying a good amount of money to a practice and the staff treats their patients so poorly.

The office ladies that first take you back are rude. Especially being a brand new patient and not having been to the establishment before they expect you to know exactly what they are asking you to do. They are OBVIOUSLY over scheduled with patients and rushing us through as cattle. They should be offered in-services about how to be cordial, highly skilled, and how to behave highly professional. Dr. Patel was good just really rushed and didn't spend time explaining how things worked or the steps that he had in my plan. I was terrified at each and every appointment, which should never be the case.

My wife`s primary eye physician informed her that her right eye is under the process of permanent damage due to high eye pressure. We had very little time to save the rest of her eye. She was referred to Dr. Patel. Dr. Patel treated her well. By the grace of Allah, he successfully operated the affected eye, and every thing is now under control. I gave him 5 stars due to following reasons: 1) He is highly professional. 2) He is highly skilled. 3) He is very polite. 4) He is a good listener. 5) There was not a significant waiting time during appointments. There is one thing that needs to improve that isn't necessarily Dr. Patel's fault. The office staff that deals with scheduling needs improvement in how they deal with patients. My wife had a serious condition. She needed to get a quick appointment based on her previous ophthalmologist's exam. They were scheduling her for an appointment 2 months later. If we had waited, she would had more damage and deterioration to her eye. Fortunately, I had an earlier appointment with Dr. Patel. I requested to switch my appointment with hers, and we completed the surgery within a month of that initial call. Despite this clear severity, their attitude was not very professional. I tried to reschedule my appointment later when my wife had a follow-up appointment after her surgery. It's OK if they had refused. However, they did not listen well and acted as if I wanted to cancel my appointment (I clearly didn't). The office staff needs to be trained in scheduling appropriate to the condition and listen attentively to the patients.

The women that work here have VERY NASTY attitudes!! It must be everybody's time of the month, or they're having problems at home. No wonder why the ratings are low. Dr. Patel need new staff. My father is a patient.

Scheduling is a nightmare! I live closer to the Greenwood building, but because I'm required to go to Carmel for my 1st visit (at least a 30 min difference in drive one way). I can't. It's not because of machines or anything, it's simply because the doctor has a preference, that's all. Should be reimbursing me for the gas difference.

Finally got to the bottom of my issues and answered all of my questions. Would definitely recommend.

Was kept waiting at multiple points during the appointment with no explanation. Then I had to drive back home to the east side with my eyes dilated, squinting into the sun because they didn't offer the plastic sunglasses that you get at other eye doctor's offices. I was in the office almost 3 1/2 hours. Very disappointed.

Dr. Hemang Patel is informative, kind, and intelligent. I highly recommend. Thank you!
