Disorganized and Frustrating Experience
I went to this clinic for what should have been a routine contact lens exam, but it turned into a frustrating and costly ordeal.
Dr. Evans insisted on repeating a full set of tests that I had already undergone the previous month for my cataract surgery. Despite informing him of this and providing documentation, the test were redone. I was shocked when the bill came to over $700.
When my trial contacts finally arrived, I couldn't see properly with them--my vision was noticeably worse. I returned to the clinic, but Dr. Evans was unavailable, so Dr. Harper saw me instead. He seemed confused about why I had been given my prescription and ordered a new set of contacts. That meant another week of waiting--now two weeks without usable contacts.
At this appointment, I also raised concerns about the excessive charges and reminded them that I had already submitted paperwork from my previous doctor. I spoke with the "office manager", who admitted she was new and said that since the clinic had been taken over by a new company, these types of issues were happening frequently. She could not do anything about the charges. She would send them up the ladder. I also needed to resubmit documentation, as they could not find the originals.
When I called to follow up, the "office manager" had no answers and hung up when questioned further. When I called back, she was "out for the rest of the day." The next day I was told they would issue a partial refund--but it would take 4 to 6 weeks to process. While I appreciated the partial refund, the timeline is unreasonable.
My third set of contacts arrived last week. I gave them a fair test--wearing them at different times of the day--but they still didn't work. I couldn't read, do puzzles, or even drive safely. At this point, I had been without proper contacts for four weeks and my options to get in with a doctor were limited. Dr. Evans was unavailable. Dr. Harper was busy, and then, he would be out of town.
I have tried to be patient and work with this clinic, but this experience has been so frustrating. The staff seemed unprepared, the communication was poor, and the lack of customer service was mind boggling. While I don't blame the support staff for the clinic's disorganization and lack of training, I do hold the doctors and management accountable. I cannot recommend this clinic and will be seeking care elsewhere.
This was our first time visiting here and both my wife and I were very satisfied with the doctor we had and the staff was so polite and helpful. Our visit was very thorough and we did not feel rushed at all. The only thing is I wish that they offered more frame options. They do have a decent selection and I think that the space may limit this for them. Overall positive and not really a big deal we were both able to find frames that we are happy with. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
Eye Care of Iowa required me to sign a waiver stating they are not responsible if my newly purchased glasses get broke during adjustment for fit. I bought the glasses from them. When I asked to speak to the Dr who owns the practice about this the office manager told me she trumps the owner on this and made me sign the waiver. I signed it under protest so I could get my new glasses to fit properly. I've been a customer for years. Due to recent changes like this , and staff attitude about same, I am never going back. Buyer Beware!
This location is the absolute worst. Over charged me $100 and when I called them out, their response was "well contacts are more expensive" when I let the office they called me 10 minutes later and realized I was overcharged and they made a mistake. It's now been 11 days, no refund. Also, I feel like this location is just poorly ran. Everyone was rude and arguing with each other. I'll be going back to the Pleasant Hill location.
Worst experience. They initially refused to issue the paper-based eyeglass prescription. After I communicated with my medical insurance company first and then the clinic, finally they mailed me the paper-based eyeglass prescription and emailed me the hyperlink to access the patient portal. Many errors in the record. They told me that they stopped providing pupil-dilation for the annual routine eye exam. So, to be aware, you would pay from your own pocket for optomap.
I have been going here for around 9 years. I really like the doctors and the front office staff. However within the past year this clinic has been taken over by "Elevate Eyecare" who appears to be handling billing and back office activities?
On 9/16 I just received a bill from my 2/6/24 visit.. over 7 months later due to billing/employee errors? Plus all of their billing is 60-90 days out and every time I pay they send another bill for new charges. The switch to be under Elevate Eyecare is why I am leaving this clinic for a new one.
Overall i always have a great experience with the staff at Iowa Eye. This year wasn't any different! I am disappointed in some of the changes that they have made due to "costs". Our insurance used to cover dilation- now they have a fancy machine that takes pictures instead (I'm sure it was very expensive) copay for everyone is 39.00. I was told by staff it's required and can't be refused? I will be calling the insurance company to verify. They have also passed on the convince fee from the credit card companies to the customer so make sure that you bring CASH if you don't want to pay an additional 3% fee. These fees have always been part of doing business. I think it's pretty ridiculous. That are now putting them on the customer because I'm sure they've raised their prices. In addition to the fees.
*I called my insurance they can mandate the charge- but I asked why it was no longer covered by insurance. It is for us- they billed it incorrectly. Please double check with your insurance if it was covered in the past!
Alisha and Crystal really helped me out and even helped my kids into affordable glasses
