Dr. Black's Eye Associates

I chose Dr. Petersen at Dr. Black's Eye Associates because I have keratoconus, and it's tough to find providers who truly specialize in this rare corneal disorder. She was outstanding from the start. After my CXL surgery, my uncorrected vision in one eye had dropped to around 20/300, and I've been struggling to adapt. Dr. Petersen took that seriously. She evaluated me right away, explained everything clearly, and adjusted my glasses prescription, improving my vision in that eye to around 20/80. That kind of improvement in one visit is huge. She also began the process of fitting me for scleral lenses to help stabilize and optimize what's left of my long-term vision. Her expertise, compassion, and attention to detail made me feel genuinely supported during a stressful time. If you have keratoconus or any complex corneal issue, I highly recommend Dr. Petersen. She truly knows what she's doing, and the difference she made in just one appointment was remarkable.

Our eye doctor moved so we were scheduled with a new doctor (Dr. Howell). He was pretty cool and laid back. My daughter's learning to speak Spanish so he spoke to her in Spanish to see if she knew what he was saying. He's very down to earth, professional, knowledgeable, and did I mention cool?! The whole practice was very friendly and professional.

Dr Blacks is a fantastic place to go if you want to be passed around, hung up on, demeaned, forgotten, and gaslit. I went in specifically for a contact lens update and to find out why my eyes were so dry. When I got there, I sat in the waiting room for 45 min after my scheduled appointment. I watched what looked like an assembly line of people come in and out. Their efficiency is fantastic, but their personality and human-ness doesn't exist. It's more, 'take a number and wait for your turn to be slaughtered.' I was given three pair of contacts to try. I could not see out of any of them, ever. I tried each for two days, but was essentially blind. I went back in to be seen again where they told me there was nothing wrong with those lenses, but adjust something anyway and special ordered another pair to try. They never reached out to tell me they were in, and when I called they said I was already given the trials. After a few days of this I went into the office to figure out what was going on and they told me the contacts were behind the counter and gave them to me. My eyes got so dry I blinked them out 4-5 times that day. I called the doctor back and he said that I might need to get tested for dry eyes. I found that ironic since my first phone call was TO get tested for dry eyes. He said they never did the test and I'd have to schedule another appointment for that, but the second appointment would not be covered by insurance since I'd already had an eye exam that year. Laughable. Now I've tried to get the brand of contacts that they gave me via email and answering service and nobody has called me back. When I called in at 8:05AM today I was passed to the "contact lens specialist" who hung up on me the first time, and then when I reached her the second time told me she "doesn't deal with contacts, but can read my chart." My recommendation is to go somewhere else.

First visit for routine eye exam, and it will be my last. Although the staff involved in the exam were courteous, thorough, and professional, the billing has been terrible!. Upon arrival, the billing office had a difficult time locating my vision insurance (even though I presented them the Met Life Superior Vision Card). When I received the bill, it was 3X what I expected. My Met Life insurance was never applied, and they refuse to do anything about it.

I never make reviews, but I am very disappointed. When we scheduled, I specifically asked for retinal imaging. I was told in the middle of my appointment that dilation is required for both me & my 3yr old, & no imaging is possible. I have never had my eyes dilated and wasn't provided any information of how this will feel or any effects/risks, just that I wouldn't be able to see up close. Was told that it would feel like water to my 3yr olds eyes, which I held her down for 2 additional attempts after the first failed dilation due to her having dark eyes. She was screaming. I still was not told why she was reacting that way. When it came my turn I was told that it would burn really bad. I have never experienced such eye pain & it triggered my vertigo. I was very disoriented driving home with my child. No postop given, no information on how long I would be dilated, just that I wouldn't be able to see my dashboard on the drive home. Luckily I didn't have to return to work that day. When I asked how this was going to be possible for my very terrified 6yr old the next week, I was told by Dr Stellar "we will get it done". No reassurance, no tips on how to prepare or help my child, no other options. I work in pediatric dentistry and perform procedures on kids all day. In my professional opinion, this was not compassionate care for my child today. I'm very disappointed, very frustrated, and will not be returning. My 3yo is traumatized.

I have been going to this eye doctor for 10 years, in New Albany, Jeffersonville, and Louisville. The entire staff is always warm, welcoming, patient and helpful. They do a great job of helping to find answers to questions and set up appointments. I have to give the highest compliment to Dr. Steven Howell, Pediatric, for his work with my son, who is now 17 and just had his last visit with Dr. Howell. It was bittersweet. Jackson was diagnosed with amblyopia (lazy eye) at around 5 or 6. We were provided with all of our choices and opted for surgery. Dr. Howell has followed him ever since, from routine prescriptions to keeping careful and thorough watch over Jackson's eye all of these years. He is clear in his communication, reassuring, professional, gentle, and good with all ages of kids (and their parents). A very special shout out to my new Dr. Peterson in Louisville. She was very in tune with me when I was having a very difficult day and almost canceled. She understood and held space for me. Dr. Peterson's assistant was also gentle and professional. Her exam was very thorough and answered many questions about my recent dry eyes and nose. I thought I had an eye infection. She explained what was actually happening and gave me samples for a simple three step process, with a carefully written note in case I didn't remember. She got me through all of the steps efficiently and with poise, then connected me with Tracy for contact lens. Dr. Peterson was understanding of my need to both have everything taken care of and get home quickly.

Dr. Blacks eye associates was absolutely amazing. Lyndon, Kentucky location. From making my appointment as a new patient, to the appointment itself; it was efficient and a quick process. Everyone was kind, up beat, and thorough. Highly recommend coming here ^_^

The team is great and very friendly, but Dr stellar was so fast look like he is in a hurry didn't take much time with as while we were worried about my son eyes that he keep saing my eyes and my head hurt. He didn't treat my 2 and half son like a scared baby he was tough, hopefully we meat other doctor next time.
