Kumar Eye Institute

I tell them on phone I am making this appointment to get contacts prediction. They wait until after exam to tell me that cannot do this. I would have gone some where else. All of my other doctors have no issue with the fact i have a legal (and preferred) name and a different name on my insurance (I have not updated insurance yet). My other doctors put my legal name on my chart and only refer to me as such. This place would repetitively tell me they would fix it and did not. They only called me my deadname and gave me documentation with my deadname. No other doctor has done this. I do not recommended the Kumar Eye Institute and I will not be returning.

I was denied medical treatment for some weird reason that I've never heard of and am not sure is even legal - certainly not ethical or professional. Also they apparently cannot afford enough light bulbs for the place nor a new elevator button since someone decided to write it back in with a sharpie. I am unhappy with my PCP for even referring me here. Sorry for exposing healthcare drama but I'm livid... sorry phone pics arent great, I didnt know Google would request a review.

Got treated for eye strabismus in November 2024. Absolutely loved the care they gave me and Dr. Kumar is an amazing person who did everything she could to make sure I got the results I wanted. The last photo is from March 2025.

PCP referral for a Diabetic Eye Exam. Kumar called & offered an appointment. Specifically asked them if they were in network for insurance. Was assured by Kumar that they were. Insurance wont pay because they are NOT in network. ALSO, they will not do an exam for glasses or contacts even if willing to self pay for that service. Was told when appointment made that they would. Will never go back nor recommend to anyone. Go elsewhere !

My daughter has been a patient of Dr. Gupta since she was 3 and we really adore her. She's done a surgery on her & has been so great with her. But appointments here are rough. We are seen by the nurse who looks at her eyes, has her look at some photos and then left in the room for 1.5-2 hours. They finally come in and do eye drops to dilate the eyes, so then we're left for another 20 minutes before the Dr ever comes in. It's rough on a child. My daughter usually falls asleep in my lap. They are always booked months out, yet still overbook everyday so that patients are left waiting in the room for hours.

This is the best eye care place in Louisville. I was treated with so much kindness and respect. Dr. Whitlow is so thorough and takes the time to really talk and listen with u. Everything was done to try and figure out what was going on and if they couldn't do it they made sure they got me to someone who could quickly!

If I could give negative stars I would. I took my mother to get an eye exam, she had a cataract and needed surgery. The scheduler pretty much dropped the ball on making sure the facility had the things needed to transfer my mom from a chair to the table. We found out by contacting the facility the day before her surgery. The scheduler at Kumar was rude and when I talked with Dr. Kumar, he made a lot of excuses and no one apologized. I was blown away. I have been going there for years. Oh, I just got a bill from January for $10. It is July. Really

I've only ever gone to the same Optometrist for eye care. Then my primary care physician sent me to Kumar for a diabetic eye exam and I was pleasantly surprised by the care and kindness I've been missing since my old family run optometrist sold out to a larger company run business. Dr. Kumar's staff still has that personal touch and feel you rarely see in a medical facility anymore. Kudos to them for keeping a great "bedside manor" alive. Highly recommended!
