If I could give no stars, I would.
Received a voicemail from Saint Matthews Vision Center (John Gardner) accusing me of repeatedly requesting contacts and saying they "don't have time to play games." Completely inaccurate -- I've been out of Kentucky for 2 years, haven't worn contacts since they prescribed them in December 2023, and 1-800 Contacts doesn't even have a prescription on file for me (I checked BOTH accounts).
Instead of blaming your system or third-party vendors, you chose to blame the patient. A simple, respectful message would've sufficed. Very disappointing tone and condescension from a healthcare office. Would not recommend.
I've been seeing Dr. Griffitt at other locations for years. This was my first experience here and the staff were great. It was so easy to schedule and when I got there, it was just as quick and easy to pick out glasses and order contacts. I can't wait to pick up my new glasses. Great service!
Unbelievable. The office staff is incompetent. They took over 30 min to schedule an appointment over the phone and when my husband got there, despite him presenting our insurance card, three staff members were not able to find our insurance. They insisted our plan was inactive (just used it yesterday and it is definitely not) and told him he could either pay out of pocket or leave. Complete waste of time. Would not recommend unless you have a lot of time to kill.
I have been going to St Matthews Vision Center for many, many years. John and Sean Gardner are the best at what they do.
They are totally professional, experts at helping me and friendly all wrapped into the BEST ever. Always a pleasure to do business with St Matthews Vision Center.
Aging is hard enough to handle but when my eyes started playing games and reading glasses were not cutting it for normal living, I called John Gardiner of St Matthews Vision Center. He was our Class President of the University of Louisville Student Government and I knew him to be very trustworthy and extremely bright. He and his staff of courteous, kind, helpful, friendly, respectful and honest professionals guided me thru the process at my convenience. Within 10 days and only a couple visits of less than an hour, I strutted out the door with perfect vision and a cool pair of glasses. They did this in coordination with my insurance so there was no cost to me. They handled everything flawlessly. I was proud of John at U of L and am heartened to have had such a great experience at Saint Matthews Vision Center.
I've been holding onto this for a while now. I went with my mother with prescriptions to St. Matthews Vision to purchase frames. It was our first time there. It was fine at first, but once we sat down to try on some styles, John Gardner, who had been talking frames, completely out of the blue, brought up house flipping contest shows and asked had we ever watched them, then went on to say there was one going on in the Westend of Louisville. He said his nephew was thinking about moving there and he didn't want him to because the people who live there are dangerous, I wish I had written down his exact words, but I was obviously taken aback, but he continued on, assuming I agreed with what he was talking about. I guess because we're white. He made reference to 'they' and 'those people,' and there was absolutely no question that he was talking about black people. And he just kept going. Had I not been with my 84 year old very nervous mother, I would've let him have it, but I could tell she was afraid I was going to cause a scene. Now, my mother is one to not agree with me about people being racist, and always doubts my feelings about diversity. And this time was no exception in our conversation on our way home. She thought I had misunderstood. She's 84, I dropped it. We had to go back to pick up her glasses, and we were waiting as John was finishing up with another customer. He was talking about a restaurant or something, and literally said, if you don't mind black people... My jaw dropped. He then sat with us to fit her frames, and said something else in regard to 'them,' and I never said another word for the rest of the time there - he even said something to my mother about her daughter (me) not looking happy - I'm 54 years old. When we left, I looked at my mother expecting her to again assume I misunderstood - BUT - for the first time in my life (I think), she said she heard him that time, and didn't defend him or tell me I misunderstood. I was furious. A few weeks ago, I found out she went back with my brother. I thought we were finished with them! Anyway - the LEAST I can do is give a review. So here it is.
I can always count on the staff at St. Matthews Vision to professionally and courteously take care of my eye care needs. They ensure that my new glasses fit and meet my needs before I walk out the door.
If I could give you guys a Michelin start type of reward for best eye care center I've ever been to, I would.
A. Feels like a mom and pop shop, which I missed having being from France. My previous eye care place was nice but I didn't feel really cared for. I called them to get an estimate for new glasses (they had my ins on file) but wouldn't do it unless I came in. I didn't have the time or energy to go just to find out the cost of new glasses. I decided to find a new store that had the brand of frames i like. I found St Matthews Vision Center and called. John answered , and instead of dismissing me or just answering my question (which he gave me an answer to), he was curious and sought clarity by asking questions. Found out the price, and got me in next day to get my measurements (PD and others).
B) John and Sean (son) are kind, caring people. John took over 30mins fixing my current frames (realigned my lens, tightened my frame, cleaned it inside out, measured me again). That was before me even saying "yes I'll get the new glasses!".Turns out, John's kind and caring approach earned him a new customer (and two, switching with the husband!).
C) I met Ollie, the sweetest customer! Ollie is one of John and Sean's customer's cat and is a sweetie :)
TDLR: if you are unsure where to start/go for high quality care, this is it. Local, caring, long lasting relationship kind of thing. I'm not going anywhere else going forward.
