Dr. Michael Worley

The staff were courteous and professional. The office was tidy and stylish. Dr. Michael Worley is a knowledgeable physician who explains everything clearly and logically. He performed a minor procedure with great efficiency and skill. Wonderful experience on all levels!

I saw Dr Worley in October or November of '25 due to Thyroid Eye Disease (TED). Everything I read about him said he was the best for treating TED. I live in Lafayette but could not find anyone experienced in dealing with this disease. So I drove to Baton Rouge to see him. He examined my eyes and agreed that I do have TED, and it's in an inactive stage at this time. TED flares up but then goes inactive for a while or for years, you never know. So after the exam he explains that he can do a surgery called ectropian repair, which would lift my lower lid up by adding some sort of graft inside my lid, and that would make my eye less noticeably big...TED causes the eye to bulge so my right eye bulged and was much more open than the left eye. He also said that if I was still in the active stage we could have tried medication or orbital decompression surgery. But since I'm in the inactive stage neither was an option, the only option was to do surgery to lift my lower lid up. He also right after that said "The surgery is $8000 and insurance doesn't cover it because it's cosmetic". So ok we then go to speak to the financial person who wanted us to pay cash right then and schedule the surgery. My husband asked if we could use a credit card and we were told that they add 25% to the cost if you use a credit card. So basically a $10,000 surgery. We said we'd think about it and get back to them. They never asked for my insurance because the doctor said I couldn't use my insurance. A lot about this visit just didn't sit right with me. So I saw an occuplastic surgeon yesterday in Houston. Before that though I did a lot of research and spoke to my insurance and found out that ectropian repair is indeed covered because it's medically necessary. TED causes blurring, burning, double vision, among other things to the eye. So surgery would not be considered cosmetic. The doctor in Houston did a thorough exam and explained that the surgery that Dr Worley wanted to do would not help me because it would not address the bulging. And he also told me that the orbital decompression surgery that Dr Worley said could not be done during an inactive stage of TED in fact absolutely HAS to be done in the inactive stage of TED. Doctors can't do surgery on an inflamed eye (active stage). I came home and again researched everything I had learned. The Houston doctor was absolutely right about decompression surgery and also that the lower eyelid lifting surgery (not to be confused with a lower blepharoplasty) would not help my bulging eye. So basically my opinion of Dr Worley is that he lied to me about two things, the ectropian surgery that he wanted to do is indeed not considered cosmetic, that it's definitely medically necessary. And that orbital decompression surgery can't be done when TED is in the inactive stage. How do you trust someone who lies to you? How do you put something as important as your eyes in his hands? I would never see him again and I would not recommend him.

Dr. Worley has been wonderful. He is kind, attends to every detail and every concern. Both of my procedures have had great results. His staff has also been very helpful. My follow up visits has been thorough and unhurried. I would use him again without hesitation.

Dr. Michael Worley and his office staff are outstanding! This was my second surgery with Dr. Worley, and once again he exceeded my expectations. He is professional, patient, and very informative, always taking the time to explain everything clearly. The results were even better than I anticipated, and my healing process was incredible thanks to his expertise and attentive follow-up appointments. My concerns about eyelid surgery were quickly erased by Dr Worley at my consultation appointment. He thoroughly explained what options I had, from doing nothing at all to moving forward with the procedure. It was an easy decision - I scheduled the surgery and have never looked back. I just had my 3-months post-surgery checkup, and the results are fantastic! From day one I felt like Dr Worley was fully vested in making the procedure successful. He is very easy to talk to, and I always felt like he had my best interests at heart. If I ever need any additional treatment or procedures done, the decision will be very easy about who to choose. I would definitely recommend Dr Worley to anyone!

Dr. Worley did an amazing job of removing a pigmented papilloma (commonly known as 'skin tag') from the upper lash line of my right eye. It was expected that I might lose some eye lashes temporarily or possibly permanently. However, Dr. Worley was able to skillfully save the lashes. The procedure was painless and the healing went very quickly.

I was referred because of a suspicious growth on my eyelid. His initial evaluation as very through and his explanation of what was going on was understandable! Lesion did not resolve with conservative therapy excisional biopsy was done. Dr Worley was at all times very professional. I felt confident with his care and treatment! Recommended without reservation by this retired surgeon!
