Please do NOT bring animals you find here. Instead, contact one of the many rescues in the area. This sweet dog was recently found along the Potomac River. The woman who found him kept him safely in her home until arrangements were made for him to be taken to the shelter. During that time, he was described as an absolute sweetheart. When I later called the shelter to check on him, I was told that he had been euthanized because he "growled" and "wouldn't let workers near him." Many dogs in shelters are scared. Growling can be a fear response, especially in an unfamiliar and stressful environment. My own dog growls when she's frightened. That alone should not be a reason to end a dog's life. There were other options. One simple step would have been reaching out to the people who found him. I had already contacted the officer in charge of the case, Ryan Jesien, several times expressing interest in the dog. This outcome is incredibly disappointing from an organization that is supposed to protect animals. Because of this experience, I will never bring a dog here and will continue warning others to seek alternatives.

I cannot say enough nice things about the shelter and the staff there. Faith, Tammy, Amanda, Ashley and Greg are as nice as can be. They care about the animals and want to ensure you get the best match possible for your family. I have fostered a dog for them before and now got my resident dog's new best friend. The ONLY gripe I have is the two hour wait at reception when I went to meet him. Otherwise, the facility is clean, staff is wonderful, dogs are well cared for, and the experience was positive. Will absolutely recommend this shelter to anyone looking for a new friend.

I had to surrender my dog and brothers dog due to false accusations and a adolescent girl getting bite by one of the dogs while I was walking them. First of the animal control officer walk up to me and assumed I knew that my dog bite her and I said no I wasn't aware nor did I see her get bite by either of my dogs. She was cornering me and I was scared that I would get put out of the program I am. This all happened at Motel 6. There was not a investigation not bite mark comparison or and video footage recovering seekeed. She ask me for a written report after I had given up my dogs and no I didn't do it because why didn't you ask for one the night of? Turns out the county euthanized both dogs when I called to see if I can get them back. They really could care less about the bully breeds or the families that had them. My dog did not have behavioral problems he was scared. My dog was under two and had just turn one in 8/8/24. I had helped birth that dog and he always went on the metro with me and even on the schoolbus to greet the kids and driver. My dog was not a monster nor was his father. There was no bite involved by either dogs. They took two lives for a lie. PLEASE WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T SURRENDER YOUR PETS TO THE COUNTY SHELTER ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A BULLY BREED DOG THEY WILL EUTHANIZE . They aren't for families and their pets because if they were than my family would still have our beloved bully Ice.

I adopted my rabbit from here during an event to clear the shelters. Everyone who worked/volunteered here was just so kind! They truly care about the animals! They all cheered for us when we went home and even offered to send us home with some supplies to get situated! I urge anyone considering getting a pet to adopt from here!

I am writing to express my profound disappointment with the manner in which your staff handled my situation involving my dog. I was required to surrender my dog due to an unfortunate incident, and I did so with great sadness, as he had been my companion for five years. I was informed that he would be quarantined for 10 days, after which a decision would be made regarding his adoption or sedation. However, I was subsequently informed that my dog was euthanized the very next day and cremated as part of a mass cremation. I was not offered the option to request his ashes, nor was I provided with any information regarding what would happen to him after I left. I am heartbroken by this, and I am extremely dissatisfied with your organization.

I started fostering here in late August. It's been awesome. They really care about the animals and making sure that volunteer fosters feel comfortable in their arrangements. This is the ideal foster situation for me because they cover costs of all things: vet needs, food, toys, and other supplies. Their foster team and behavior specialist are super responsive and supportive.

I visited the shelter to adopt my cat in 2018. He's such a happy, healthy, and playful baby! My family is really happy with him and we're very happy with all of the support we have received. We even had one of our beloved dragon lizards incinerated here because we didn't know what to do. The staff is amazing and I love the convenience of the location.
