Berkshire Eye Center

Seniors beware. Berkshire eye center staff will not inform you that some of the testing they do is not paid for by Medicare. The billing department actually told me I should have look it up in the over 100 page benefit book Medicare sent when I signed up. I would not have know anyway as I do not know what "refraction" is! It would have been much easier had the staff just told me before doing it and I would not have done the "refraction" as in fact it is useless as I do not need new glasses. In fact I have never needed those tests as have never worn them! Needless to say the staff is very rude and the billing department is the worst I have ever encountered. It would have been so easy to avoid this problem had they just given me the information and the choice. Obviously, it was no error that I was not told about the extra fee before hand. Berkshire Eye Center puts making an extra $40 over treating their patient with respect and fairness

No communication with cancelled appointments or with new appointments. One time waited for more than an hour for my appointment which I took time off to make. No longer a customer. Had great experience with the Pittsfield office not the Great Barrington office.

My wife and I were visiting Great Barrington from Illinois. Her glasses were badly damaged and we needed to find someone to repair them even if it was temporary until we returned home. The first optometrist office we visited was not helpful at all. They said they could do nothing to help. We then went to Berkshire Eye Center. They were able to fix her frames back to the original design. We tried to pay for the excellent repair but were charged nothing. We donated to the Berkshire Animal shelter which had a donation jar in that office. Excellent service!

Have been going here for years with a couple of forays to other providers. I WONT stray again. Berkshire Eye Center - Great Barrington - location went above and beyond to help me. I'd like to specifically mention Karen who was just so accommodating and a joy to work with. Thank you all at Berkshire Eye.

My son and I both go to Berkshire Eye Center in Great Barrington. and we have no issues with the receptionist, or staff. Always, pleasant and helpful. We see Dr. Singer and she is very good. My son is Down Syndrome and is treated with the greatest respect, and care. We also get our glasses there. Karen and Cindy are both excellent. I have worn bifocals forever and I need the line slightly lower than normal .. They were very accommodating with my request. They allow my son to pick out his frames. They also treat him with respect and care. They help him if he needs it. The make sure his glasses fit him properly. We are very thankful to have the Bershire Eye Center in town and the care we receive by all !!

I went in for an appointment scheduled for 2:30 PM, arriving 15 minutes early as I like to have time to fill out whatever forms I am given. I ended up having an excess of about *an hour and a half* to sit in the waiting room as I was finally called at 4:00 PM. I understand occasional lateness but that is excessive to the nth degree. I was going to ignore it, however when I went in for a follow-up two weeks later, I waited an extra 20 minutes after checking in (on time, not early) only to be told they had scheduled my appointment incorrectly and I would not be able to see the doctor for another few days when they were next available. An abhorrent waste of my time on the first count and an irritating mistake that wasted more of my time on the second, both leading to my new distaste for this company.

I feel very comfortable placing my eye care with Dr. Singer. However, the lack of the same day return of phone calls is a problem. In addition, the eye center tends to overbook. The last time I was there I waited about 40 minutes and had to "sound the alarm" for them to finally take me into the examining room. Their overall customer service needs improvement.

I've been a patient there for 10+ years. It's never been stellar, but that's the nature of [relative] monopoly, only place in town. HOWEVER! after literally years of asking "isn't there a better solution for my contact lenses" so I wouldn't need reading glasses, and getting scolded by the eye doctor for asking "yet again, you ask this every time", I decided to go elsewhere. I had been wearing contacts for 30+ years, and reading about how there were ones which allowed both reading and perfect distance vision. Berk Eye Center told me to pound sand. I went to Hudson, and was easily fitted with contacts that allow me to ditch the reading glasses; and these contacts are much more comfortable than the old style Berk Eye Center insisted upon. So I went 10 years with my vision compromised, my ability to read compromised, because the medical staff was, well, lazy, and wed to the brand they were selling. Not in the best interest of patients. On the eyeglass buying side of things - they are very difficult; constant upselling; their premium frames are just not that stylish / unique; and the service, especially if you ask for your pupillary distance, a measure needed if you want to buy eyeglasses on line - is surly and arrogant. Much nicer frames and lenses available elsewhere, and not just online, but nearby, in person. [oh, and I would NEVER just buy glasses online; I'd always get a pair from them, and wanted the right prescription as backup when traveling. In order to get the PD, I had to call one of the partners, who begrudgingly gave it to me after a lot of back and forth. Subsequently, they changed their system in order to avoid this. "We no longer use pupillary distance as a measurement"; this is a ridiculous way to capture customers) In short, don't settle like I did, because of perceived convenience of in our town. Go elsewhere for contacts and glasses. And also, I tried several times speaking to some of the owner / partners, and they essentially laughed at me, 'this is how it is, and you don't know what you're talking about'. Fish rots from the head.
