Jewell Eye

This was the worst eye exam I have ever had. I've been wearing glasses and contacts for 15 years. I came in for my yearly exam. I was made to wait for 45 minutes past my appointment time to be seen. When I was initially taken back by a very young woman to the machines, she simply told me to put my chin on the bar with no further instruction. I was never told where or what to look at. When the doctor FINALLY brought me back, she acted like I was inconveniencing her! She didn't know the answer to any of my questions, and tried to rush me out as fast as possible. I was barely sitting in her office for 5 minutes. Every other eye exam I have ever had, they shuffle through the lenses to try to find the right prescription.... not Dr. Jewell! Her machine was disgustingly dirty and entirely covered in fingerprints and scratches, so it's not like I could've accurately assessed which was right for me anyways, but she literally showed me 2 options and got upset with me when I asked her to shuffle them again bc I wasn't sure which I preferred (due to the horrid condition of her machine). Neither of the 2 options she showed me worked for me, and when I said that, she pulled the receipt from machine the young girl gave her from the other 3 machines and said, "Well that's what my machines have you at." I stated that the -2.75 was a significant difference from what I came in with: -3.25 (an rx I've been wearing for nearly 5 years). She then accused me of lying! I was shocked and insulted by this and said that I literally have a copy of my most recent prescription which I then showed her. She barely acknowledged it and said "What do you want? What do you want from me? I can give you that prescription if you want." WHAT?!? I am not the eye doctor!!! I was then charged $119 for an exam that was supposed to be a $45 copay, and after contacting my insurance learned that they never submitted a claim whatsoever. I was sent out with 2 different prescriptions of contacts - neither of which worked. I suspect the machine's readings were off due to the technician's lack of instruction... Dr. Jewell ended up giving me a prescription of -3.00 without any further testing or assistance bc it halfway in between -2.75 and -3.25. I have literally never had a more unprofessional and poor eye exam in my life. I will also be reporting this to the proper board and state authorities as this is entirely out of line with both typical and expected practice. UPDATE: I called the office to try to resolve this. They were very rude, said "It's way too late.", and hung up on me. They refuse to answer any of my calls. I have filed a complaint with the MA Department of Public Health, my bank, and my insurance. UPDATE 2: After explaining the situation to my bank, they refunded me in full as the service was not rendered, and I received a faulty product (willfully incorrect prescription). My insurance is still investigating but said it was alarming as the documents they ended up submitting (3 months late) are very discrepant from what I paid and the actual service I was supposed to get. They reported exams and procedures that straight up did not happen and incorrect totals across the board. Looks like Jewell Eye's fraudulent practices are coming to an end.... what a horrible hustle they are running. UP

Jewell Eye is fraudulent. They tell you your insurance is denied & charge you a $45 co-pay. then you call your insurance company & they say your exam is covered & when you report back to Dr Jewell she says too bad & refuses to reimburse your copay. Instead she tells you she will reimburse you when she gets paid, whenever that may be - not holding my breath because this woman lies. Patients be wary!

Excellent exams and service. Removing four stars from a perfect rating due to finding my patient data splayed across the internet without any patient privacy breach notification from Jewell Eye. I won't be returning for this reason

I want to give 0 but I ll be generous to give 1 They said my insurance was declined with no reason. I called my insurance they said everything is covered and they need to talk to them to understand why it was declined but both the representative and the Doctor Jewell refused in a weird manner. They wasted my time coming all over to be treated like that. Unprofessional team. I will never come back

So I go in to get an eye exam, explained to them that I have mass health tufts together with u mass memorial, and they swore up and down that they accept it, they ran my insurance said it was denied and that I still had to pay a 45 dollar co pay, so I then proceed to ask if the lens and frames were cover thinking that maybe they don't approve the initial eye exam, and they swore up and down that they will cover it. I then proceed over to get my frames and lens and then to be told that they don't accept mass health. So I do some calling around to my insurance to find out what was going on and that she doesn't cover my plan. I was told yes about a dozen times that my plan was covered so I ask for a refund because clearly I was lied to and she absolutely told me no she's not giving me back my money that I should know my own insurance . I think the doctor should know herself if they accept my insurance as I was told a dozen times yes, they will not explain anything to you and just make you sit there and wonder why. I do not recommend going to this lens crafter as she is her own private llc.

Jewell Eye in LensCrafters far exceeded my expectations. The front desk girls were prompt, competent, and kind. My exams were thorough. I got in to see Dr.John Whitney right away, and he was very kind as well. He assured me that my eyes were healthy based on the previous exams, and answered all the questions I had about different contact lenses/prescriptions/etc. Even better, nobody tried to persuade me to buy the most expensive brand of contacts or pressured me to get glasses, which is something my local eye doctor would do. There was also no hassle with my eye insurance. I would recommend Jewell Eye / Dr. Whitney to anybody!!

Used to be good. My experience has gone downhill during the past few years. I paid for a contact lens fitting and when the first set didn't work was told they would order another set and call me when they come in. It's been months. I have called and emailed and have gotten no response or follow up. The office is chaotic and unprofessional. I got shuttled back and forth from the waiting room to exam room with the doctor being interrupted by staff multiple times during my eye exam. She left and came back a few times and did not clean her hands. Equipment was not sanitized between patients. I will never go back and recommend you don't either.

I've getting eye surgery exams at Jewel for a few years. I'm always very pleased with my care. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the doctor is always very professional and knowledgeable. I'm very happy with this practice and would recommend it to anyone. Dr. Whitney was amazing. I loved his kind and gentle care. I am very happy and know that I was in good hands. All the Dr's I've been cared for in this practice have been excellent. I'm never going anywhere else
