Wonderful experience!! In today's economy, I was able to get 2 cute pairs of glasses at an affordable price. Everyone was kind and professional, but Jackie was incredibly helpful. Definitely recommend for good service and people on a budget!
Overall, my experience at America's Best was really good. The support staff couldn't have been kinder or more helpful... they were polite, patient, and genuinely made the visit easy. The only downside was the doctor, who acted like I had ruined his day just by existing and needing an exam. His attitude definitely threw off the vibe a bit, but everyone else more than made up for it. I'd still recommend this location because the rest of the team was fantastic and I love my glasses!
I had an appointment here and the experience was bad enough that I left in tears. When I checked in, I specifically clarified with the front desk that the special for two pairs of glasses did include an eye exam. I had my routine eye exam, and at the end the doctor asked if I wanted my contact prescription updated. I said yes.
After that, I was sat with an associate named Brandon (he said he was the assistant manager). Before I even had the chance to fully sit down or let my contact settle back into my eye, he immediately said,
"Are you re-enrolling in the eye care club? Otherwise your total is $119."
I told him I was planning on doing the glasses bundle with the eye exam that I'd confirmed at the front desk. He then said that would be $129 plus the cost of glasses, and that there was a discount on frames for being part of the eye care club.
I asked him why the pricing was different from what I'd been told. He said it was because I had a contact exam, and that he could "disregard the contact exam" and just give me the bundle. I asked for clarification, because I did not understand how the "contact exam" could cost so much when all I did was say yes to updating my script. His explanation was that the doctor has to make sure the contacts fit my eyes.
For context: I've been wearing the same contacts for 5 years.
At this point, he was speaking so loudly that I asked him to please lower his voice, because it felt like he was practically yelling at me. I told him I wasn't trying to argue; I just wasn't understanding and I didn't know where the disconnect was between my question and his answer. He did not provide any new information--he just kept repeating the same thing, louder.
My only question was essentially this:
If you can just toss aside the "contact exam" and give me the 2 frames and eye exam promotion for $95, why can't you provide me with my updated prescription and still allow me to use the promotion?
That was it. Instead of answering, he got louder and more repetitive. I asked almost immediately if there was someone else I could work with and was told no. I asked if there was a manager and he said he was the manager. I asked him several times to stop yelling at me. He told me the lobby was empty and his voice is just loud.
I ended up crying in the chair in front of him because I had repeatedly asked him to lower his volume, I was clearly overwhelmed, and he just kept repeating himself in the same raised tone. He never directly answered my actual question about the pricing and promotion.
Then, in front of me, he:
* Handed me a card for his manager
* Crumpled up my paperwork
* Tossed it in the trash can
* Put the folder back at the front desk
* Came back and told me to "have a good day.
I wasn't yelling, cussing, or trying to haggle--just trying to understand why the numbers didn't match what I was told at check-in. Instead, I was talked over, spoken to in an unnecessarily loud and dismissive way, and watched my paperwork get thrown away while I cried.
I will be contacting corporate about this, but I wanted other customers to know what happened. If you come here, I strongly recommend getting very clear information about pricing and what counts as a "contact exam" before agreeing to anything, and be aware that this is how I was treated when I simply asked for clarification.
I went to get contacts for the first time and was nervous because i dont like touching my eyes. The worker (I think her name was Melody) was super patient with me while i learned, i really appreciate that.
The only reason I'm giving it 1 star is because of an employee at the Roseville, Mi named Brandon. He is very and I do mean VERY rude. The rest of the staff including the doctor I saw were very friendly but Brandon doesn't need to be anywhere near customer service or having conversation with customers because he acts as if the customer is bothering him.
Only make an appt if you have endless hours to wait. My apt 11 am at 11:45 still waiting five went before me n waiting to pick glasses. My time is as important as theres
Quick service and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Melody assisted me today and was so lovely and kind. I have been going here for years and have always had great visits
DIANE IS A SUPERSTAR. Best customer service I've experienced at the optometrist. She deserves a raise. Overall: the store was clean, efficient, friendly, and professional. I didn't have to wait long for glasses to come in. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
