University Eye Center

My son had an appointment with them to order a new pair of new lenses in late January over two weeks ago. The medical service itself is great. During out visit, I filled out a form to transfer medical records from the former clinic. However, when I called them after two weeks, the front desk told me they had been waiting for me to file the paperwork to transfer medical records. So, the form that I filled out was missing! Then, I filed the record transfer request again, and called them back a few days later. They said they were still waiting for the records to be transferred. However, I called the former clinic, I was told the information had been faxed to them. This means that they did not see the fax. What made things worse is that their voice mail box had been full for a while. This made me wonder whether they regularly checked the voice mail if you left one. Apparently, some serious customer service issues exist here. For whoever use this eye center, I recommend you keeping following them up in case they miss your file or fax!

I have been a patient at the University Eye Center for over 8 years. The doctor's really give you a thorough eye exam and answer all your questions. Dr. Thelwell was exceptional during my appointment in October. He answered all my questions. His professionalism and his personality made you feel very relaxed and let you know that he cared about you as a patient. Kaylee at the reception desk was also very helpful with helping me with an Eye Med insurance issue.

The doctor was really good and she called to check on me cause I had headaches I really appreciate that the eye exam was top notch

I've been a patient at UMSL (now University Eye Center) most of my life. As far back as when I was in kindergarten 1994 and I'm 35 now and the staff may have changed and some may not longer work here but one thing has not changed. That is the level of exceptional care you receive at each appointment. I myself go every 2 years (due to my insurance) and each time I have ALWAYS had wonderful doctors who treat me extremely kind and are so patient to assure my exam goes as smooth as possible. The doctors and staff are very well educated and knowledgeable and will do everything to make sure your eyes are as healthy as they can be. I would highly recommend the University Eye Center to everyone who needs expert eye care. You won't be disappointed!

I have never had a longer or more complete eye exam in my life! The staff was amazing and they explained everything as they went along. I had to have a Diabetic Eye Exam alongside my regular exam and it just took a bit longer. The individual giving me the exam was friendly, professional and answered my questions. Very at ease about everything. The staff at the checkin/out area were very friendly and it was just a great experience. I went back to look for some glasses for my prescription and was very happy that they had a very impressive selection of frames that were within my VSP insurance allowance (which you won't find in many places). I am awaiting my new glasses and am actually very excited to see how much better I can see. I really like this place and recommend it to anyone looking to get an eye exam!

I feel that the overall quality of care I received at University Eye Center was great but,could have been better. Most everyone was professional and pleasant. My eye exam wasn't rushed and the examiner seemed helpful and considerate about my concerns. He listened patiently and answered my questions. I was nervous before and after arriving to my appointment. I felt better after meeting with the physician or eye technician.

I have used the services here several times and have always had great experiences with the optometrists in training (Lynn most recently) and the doctors. Edward in the glasses section is the definition of what customer service should look like. Unfortunately when I called in on or about November 22 to order my computer glasses lenses, the ball got dropped and I just found out today Dec. 4 that they never got ordered. Thankfully Edward took care of it and saved the day.

My daughter has been coming here for about three years, and just til recently I've had no complaints. She was due for an eye exam. We were there well over four hours! I felt like it was intentionally extended, for whatever purpose. I allowed them to dilate her eyes, which the tech didn't even offer shades. Especially considering one of her pupils has a tear in it. I had to call and complain of that certain eye bothering her for a week! Then they made the recommendations on a certain bifocal lens's. I figured that's why the appointment was so long. Then I call to check on them because it had been two weeks. First they said it wasn't in, then I asked to speak with a specialist to see when they were expected. Turns out they was in fact in. Anyway, once picking up they were not the same "recommended " lens. I was upset because we had a full, thorough conversation over these particular lenses and they stated it was not covered under insurance AFTER picking up. Our time was certainly wasted, and the professionalism has drastically declined since first initial exams!
