I had an extremely shocking and disappointing experience at Boynton's Eye Clinic last week, and will not be returning. I was greeted warmly by a gentleman at the front desk who was extremely helpful at every encounter. I was then taken to an eval room by an optometrist's assistant, who did not introduce herself, and repeated multiple times that this is going to be very brief so I can have more time with the doctor. She verified my date of birth so she knew how old I was (important) and was extremely short and cold when doing baseline vision tests. There was one row of letters I couldn't read, she made me try again multiple times, and was extremely frustrated when I couldn't read it, and then asked if I'd ever had an eye injury after clearly being frustrated. She asked for a one sentence description of why i was there, and I was going to say "...because I haven't had a routine exam in 2 years, -so i'm a little behind-" and before I could say "so I'm a little behind' she abrubtly cut me off and repeated, again, that I need to brief and short so I can have more time with the doctor. She needed to look at my current prescription, so I told her my current glasses were an old progressives prescription that I had been using since I broke my updated single-vision glasses recently, and she responded with her jaw open and eyes wide and said, "You're 29 years old and you've ALREADY had progressives?" Extremely disrespectful, especially considering I am not 29 (she was only 5 years off to be fair), very unprofessional, and I immediately asked if I had done something or said something to upset her. She proceeded to ramble about how she is relatively new and again just 'trying to save time' so I could have more time with the doctor. To make this even worse, when I walked and approached the front desk to see if I was good to go after my time with the doctor, she crouched behind the nice gentleman I mentioned earlier, whispered something to him very obviously while tapping his shoulder (he was visibly looking at me awkwardly) and then literally scurried off. I can only imagine she was whispering for him to take care of me because she didn't want to talk to me. Way to make it obvious you've been gossiping about a patient with other staff. Again, he was very kind, and I appreciate him remaining professional.
The other part of this was my exam with the doctor. Everything went well, until I was told to tilt my head back for eye drops. I had never had my eyes dilated, keep this in mind. AFTER he puts the drops in, he tells me these will dilate my eyes, and I began to get anxious because 1. I had no idea what to expect, and 2. I drove to this appointment. I expressed concern, and while he wasn't exactly dismissive, I didn't feel like I was being cared for or that my concerns were seen as valid. I strongly disliked the feeling that the dilation gave me, and was left waiting anxiously in the waiting room for 15 minutes trying to find someone who could pick me up or meet me and drive me home. I do understand the doctor probably was not anticipating me being uncomfortable, but I think the dilation without warning was definitely out of order. I was sent off with sunglasses and told I'd be fine to drive.
I will not be returning to Boynton's Eye Clinic even if it means I have to pay out of pocket. The experience with the assistant was absolutely horrible, and I can't imagine how many other people have or will experience her poor manners as well.
I've been going there for years and my daughter who's a student now goes there too. I have had the most thorough eye exam I've ever had from there and I appreciate their thoroughness and diligence very much. The frames are a reasonable price and they're always easy to deal with regards to insurance.
The optometrist and technician were friendly and professional. But I have been waiting for my new glasses for more than one month and am still waiting. They don't update the status unless I call and email them several times. Why, do they think I will just forget that I spent few hundred dollars on then and I will forget about it?
The so called "students discount" is also a scam and not much cheaper.
In short, just get your glasses from other places.
Edited: gave one star back because they helped me with refund.
I've been here twice now. The people are friendly. I got one bad prescription and one good prescription. The doctor was very apologetic upon hearing about my bad experience.
The frames are much too expensive (the student discount doesn't amount to much either). I recommend buying frames and lenses online.
