Dr. Raulino was very thorough and answered all my questions. She and her team were great! The office manager helped my husband and I with getting our glasses. She was extremely kind and helpful in explaining our benefits since we're double insured. This was the best experience I've had at an eye doctor visit. Will definitely be recommending to friends and family!
Love love love my new eye doctor. Switched and now a happy patient of Dr. Raulino who is outstanding. Showed and explained to me the difference in my eye prescription to ensure my needs were met. Facilitiy has ample parking and excellent staff. So happy I made the switch!
Everyone was very friendly and the eye exam process for my DMV eye test went very smooth smoothly. I felt that no one was trying to rush me through the place, and they took the time to explain things I saw Dr. R. and he was very detailed in his explanation of my eyesight I will be a repeat customer. Nice office and plenty of parking is a plus
I would not recommend Family Eyecare Associates as I had to wait over 20 minutes to be seen after arriving for my appointment on time. I have also never had to provide my medical insurance information at any of the previous optometrist offices I've been to, on top of already providing my active vision insurance information, but I can get past this. However, it's also worth mentioning that if you're getting a contact lens prescription, on top of the exam fee, you'll be charged heavily for a single pair of contacts they have you "try on" under the name of contact fitting. I understand this is standard procedure but have never been charged this high on top of already paying for the exam. Safe to say I will be looking for a different place next time.
Mixed Experience at Family Eyecare Associates of South Reno
I've been a loyal patient at Family Eyecare Associates for over 20 years and have always appreciated the care provided by Dr. Humphreys and Dr. Hubbard. This recent visit, however, was a stark departure from the smooth and professional experiences I've come to expect.
Let me start with the positive: Dr. Katrina Braganza was absolutely wonderful. She was bubbly, kind, and incredibly thorough during my eye exam. She took the time to answer all my questions and made me feel genuinely cared for. I would absolutely see her again and recommend her as a provider.
Unfortunately, the rest of the appointment was riddled with issues stemming from understaffing and lack of training. The front desk receptionist was polite but awkward and timid, which made the check-in process feel strained and unwelcoming. The office manager, who was also acting as intake staff and optician, explained they were short-staffed due to recent departures. While I appreciate her effort, the intake process was slow and disorganized, and I waited 30 minutes in the exam room before seeing the doctor.
The post-exam experience was even more frustrating. The optician assisting me with glasses ordering was brand new and clearly untrained. She struggled with basic tasks and lacked confidence, which made the process uncomfortable and inefficient. The office manager stepped in to help but was unfamiliar with insurance policies and product specifics. I had hoped to repair my Maui Jim prescription sunglasses and order a second pair, but they couldn't process the warranty repair and couldn't order my style--even though they're listed as a retailer and had the brand on display.
I ended up going to another provider to order the sunglasses, only to find out my insurance didn't cover that brand. I had to return to Family Eyecare to reverse my original order and apply my primary insurance to a different pair. I first tried calling, but the front desk staff again struggled to communicate effectively, and I had to handle the issue in person. The optician didn't remember me from 30 minutes earlier, and I had to wait again for the office manager to assist. She promised the senior optician would fix the order the next day, but I'm still unsure if that ever happened.
In total, the appointment and follow-up took over three hours, causing me to miss work and use more health time than necessary. While the staff was kind and tried their best, the lack of training, poor communication, and inability to navigate insurance benefits made this a stressful and disappointing experience. Sadly, despite my long history with this office, I won't be returning.
My husband is handicapped. We were first taken to a small room and expected to try to fit his wheelchair behind a table filled with examination machines. I tried. The trying wore my husband out. Finally someone else took us to a larger room. The optometrist was just plain rude to us and completely oblivious to his special needs. She kept addressing him and dismissing my answers, apparently wanting to hear from him. He was confused, giving the wrong answers. She left us in the room while going to another patient. Finally he started passing out due to low blood pressure brought on by the stress. She snubbed us at checkout. Seemingly annoyed with us. We will never go back there and highly recommend you consider your options.
Amazing friendly staff. Dr Raulino is great very pleased with my experience and would definitely recommend to family and friends.
Probably the most thorough and extensive eye exam I've ever had. Doctor very professional and friendly. I had been looking for a new prescription and glasses, but the doctor said it would be a waste of money at this time due to a cataract. New glasses would not give me better vision, and he referred me to an ophthalmologist instead. I'll be back once the cataract is corrected.
