January 2026 - If I could give zero stars I would. The staff is short tempered and unhelpful. I asked for both contacts and glasses exam. Both of which I had to ask for a copy of my perscription, when the desk gave me a paper with my perscription, it only had my contacts Rx on it. I asked for my glasses as well. The girl at the desk told me that was both. I've been wearing correction for over 2 decades, I know better. I tried to explain it wasn't and was getting no where. I moved out of state 6 months later. After just over a year from my appointment I contacted the office to get my eyeglass Rx. The girl on the phone told me she would have it sent to me. It came via email as a fax link with a code to use to access the fax. The link never worked. I called the office, again a short tempered can't be bothered girl, argued with me telling me that my Rx was expired, I explained my contacts might be as they're only good for a year but my glasses would expire until 2 years. Industry standard as we all know. She came back and snapped our are only good for a year. I asked for her to send the Rx anyway as I was at optomitrist trying to open the link that doesn't work and if she could fax it directly to them. She said fine. We waited nothing came. The next day nothing came. Now I having to call again to ask them to send it which given the gate keeping that apparently happens at this office I'm doubtful. Worst experience in a professional office. So unfortunate that Winnemucca only has two optomitrist to choose from. Choose the other office! Not Black Rock.

During the month of September 2025, my family and I had eye exams scheduled at Black Rock vision center in Winnemucca. The week of our exams they decided to close their doors and had put a sign on their door stating that they were no longer going to be in business. They never contacted us to let us know that our exams had been canceled. Two days later we found out that they decided not to close their doors and went in for our exams. The place is very unorganized. No one at the desk to greet us, we sit in the waiting room for 20 minutes before anyone says anything to us. We go back for exams and the optometrist at this office isn't even doing the exams which I am not sure is legal. We pay for our glasses and we are told that they will be ready to pick up in 2 weeks. Unfortunately, there must have been some kind of mishap with the billing because we had to pay a second time when we came and picked up our glasses because they didn't bill properly. Now several months after receiving my glasses I have received a third bill from them which has nothing on it. Regarding what the bill is about, it just says that there was a insurance adjustment and that we owe $37 more. I contacted them to tell them that this is not a legal procedure and that balance billing is not something they should be doing. They were fully aware what our coverage was when they entered our insurance into their computer. The day we went to go get our glasses. I would not recommend that you do business with this company. First of all, on the final bill it says nothing about what it's for. But when I contact the office and tell them I'm expecting a phone call back because I should not be receiving three bills for my glasses for my family. They tried to tell me that it's due to the exam. Exams are supposed to be covered fully by insurance and there is no reason for me to be billed for the exam. So please tell me where I'm wrong here. The woman handling the phone calls at the desk was not happy to hear from me at all when I called out their shady business practices. Do not support this business unless you are okay with being overcharged, perpetually forever....

I really wish I had checked the reviews before picking this place; Bengoa Eye Care would have been a much better choice. So, I asked them to mail my glasses, and when I opened the case, ugh, two scratches on one lens. They tried to blame shipping, but come on, they were safely tucked inside the case, clearly a mistake during manufacturing. When I asked for a refund, they insisted I send the glasses back and pay extra to fix them, which felt totally unfair, especially considering how much I already shelled out. The doctor was great, but their customer service needs serious improvement. And get this, one lens had a blurry spot. They told me to tilt my head for better vision, but here's the kicker--they wanted to charge me extra to fix it. Never had this trouble with my old glasses. This whole experience shouts out problems with both how they make the glasses and run the optometrist's office. ************************************************************** I am updating my review score as I believe the manager, Katie, handled my situation in person exceptionally well. She promptly requested another pair of lenses for both me and my son from the laboratory, and we were able to swap them at the office. Maria was also incredibly nice and kind to us. We truly appreciate their responsibility and quick resolution of the problem. Due to this positive experience, I would certainly return the next time I need eye vision assistance.

I'm not an established patient but called to make an appointment because I had a torn contact lense stuck in my eye. They were able to see me urgently. The receptionist was so warm, professional, and kind! The medical staff and Dr. Southam were amazing!! I was seen promptly and Dr. Southam quickly treated me. Although the procedure wasn't uncomfortable at all, he continuously asked me how I was doing. He showed genuine concern. I highly recommend this practice and I'm grateful they were able to help me!

I had a very positive experience. I had an issue with floaters and bubbles and flashing lights. They got me in immediately and Dr. Southam was very kind and reassuring. I even got a thorough exam and was able to order some new glasses. The waiting room is extremely user friendly. One could watch animal shows, without sound, allowing others to be on their phones without disturbance.

Went in for glasses, the eye Dr and receptionist were amazing, however the young guy who fitted me for frames told my gf when she went and put half down on the payment, that it was an additional 10$, she said no he already payed that, and he persistently argued with her, until the receptionist told him, um no he already payed that. Overall a very pleasant experience except for that young guy who clearly didn't know what he was doing, if u go here, make sure they dont charge u more than they should. The staff were so helpful, and I would absolutely recommend going here

HUGE Shoutout to Black Rock Vision! My husband had a huge irritation in his right eye going on 3 days. He is working 12 hour day shifts and can't sleep at night. I called Helena Huelsen now that she is back at work and let her know what was going on. She contacted the doctor to see if he could help. I took my husband in tonight at 8 pm to see him. Brenda and Dr Southam were absolutely amazing. Thank you so much for helping my husband, he is feeling so much better. In this small town it is so wonderful the care that they showed, to take time out of their busy weekend on a Saturday night to help one person out. Thank you again for the amazing team at Black Rock Vision!

This is the best clinic! The office is beautiful and the staff is super friendly. I was long overdue for an eye exam and Dr. Southam took his time help me find a contact brand I was comfortable with. Thank you!
