Stopped in b/c they were able to see my kid on short notice - they were very brisk and processing on paper for some forms, then they had a quick review. They were pretty dismissive of our thoughts, didn't feel heard as parents, as the Dr. assumed we wouldn't bother listening to her advice... she was very concerned about prescribing the medicine since she thought we'd put the OK lenses back in at night - more than a dozen warnings about losing eyesight. I guess she's had some bad experiences with others not following instructions. Dr. Bernstein is retiring, as a note, too.
Have been going since my daughter was 2, the past 7 years. Started out great, but over time, the office staff has been getting more rude and getting harder to deal with, make appointments with and clear paperwork with. Wait times have increased, especially over the past 2 years. If you don't mind waiting for an hour for an exam after your appointment time, this may be a good option for you, as they do treat children well once you are seen. That being said, it is hard to sit in a waiting room full of kids waiting for their appointment, then to be rushed out. Unfortunately this isnt an isolated experience. Pros and cons, but as a mother of 3, it is very frustrating to receive 3 (three) "reminder phone calls" and 2 text messages for the appointment, then to be sat for over an hour, so we are now be switching to a practice that respects families more.
I've taken both my sons for checkups for 5+ years (to Dr Bernstein at Cedar Knolls) and my younger one got glasses about a year ago. We have had to be seen pretty regularly since for different eye issues/complications beyond glasses and everyone at the office...dr, nurse, receptionists all go above and beyond to be kind and helpful in n every way possible. Highly recommend!
About 3 years ago my 7 year old had vision issues. In addition to glasses, Dr. Bernstein had my son start wearing a patch for a couple of hours a day over his strong eye. He told me that the goal is for my son's weaker eye to get stronger, and it was possible that by age 10 he wouldn't even need glasses anymore.
Fast forward 3 years and my son no longer needs glasses, he's 20-20. He only had to patch about a year, maybe less. Everything Dr. Bernstein recommended worked out great. I am very happy with the care my son has received.
The ladies were friendly. They honour the appointment time and you don't hang around the lobby waiting to be seen. I walked in when the previous appointment was walking out and when I was leaving the next appointment walked in. I was impressed by this. Dr. Bernstein was so clear when explaining the diagnosis and answering my questions, he was so good with my child, who hates to have his face touched.
What a great place! I will be going back with all my children. The woman who brought us back to the room was so great with my 2 year old! She made him very comfortable. Can't say enough great things about her. Everything there was good but she is the reason I am giving 5 stars.
Dr. Bernstein worked quickly with my oldest son. He was very kid friendly, and the environment is very welcoming too. Paperwork didn't take too long, just make sure you have your referral handy. Staff was great and I will definitely be taking the rest of my children here for their vision needs. Best pediatric eye doctor I've come across so far.
I can't say enough good things about this office! My son is a very anxious boy in regards to doctors (PTSD from a lot of health issues since birth) the medical team are so patient and understanding with him! As a special needs mom I truly value this from a doctor's office.
