With new vision insurance came a new eye doctor and optician. After a very long time elsewhere we tried out Opsin. They are a preferred provider with VSP vision plan and very close to home.
I went in one day recently just to check out the shop. They have a large selection of frames and onsite optometrists. They were able to get me in for an exam that afternoon. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly. The optometrist did a very good job that afternoon with a comprehensive exam.
Since I had a prescription in hand I was able to begin picking out frames. Leighann the optician was helpful, assessed my needs, and made solid recommendations. I knew this wasn't going to be cheap - I need progressive lenses and high index glass. Leighann took the time to explain options and guide me to the most cost-effective solutions. I took advantage of the 50% off a second pair to upgrade my prescription sunglasses. Compared to my previous lenses from two years ago I saved about $300 using my insurance.
The new glasses came quicker than expected, an added bonus. Leighann helped fit them properly and I am pleased with the new glasses.
Overall this was a very positive experience. If you have insurance you can save even more - rarely do I choose fully covered frames but that's my choice. There are many to pick from. All the staff is friendly and welcoming and I look forward to a positive relationship with Opsin going forward.

I had my second follow-up appointment with Dr Musto lat week and she has been absolutely wonderful. She is very caring, friendly, and takes the time to really listen. She adjusted my prescription and now I can see so clearly. It made such a big difference in my everyday life. I feel very comfortable and confident in her care. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for an optician. Dr Musto truly is the best!
I was charged for a contact lens exam without being informed that it was an additional cost. When I questioned the charge, the front desk staff were extremely rude and demanded payment immediately. After receiving my contacts, I told them they were bothering my eyes, but they refused to offer a refund or any help. I also spoke with the manager, who was unwilling to resolve the issue. Very disappointed with their customer service! I will never return, and I do not recommend this place to anyone.
With new insurance, i decided to take advantage of the larger provider base. We didn't have good experiences at previous big box eye centers. So happy I chose Opsin in Freehold! What a different experience! Front desk staff were all personable, polite and professional. I took my spouse and two children. Children had a warm and welcoming experience. None of us were rushed during frame selection and were given ample feedback on which glasses suit everyone face best (and maximized savings based on insurance). Dr. Musto was kind, attentive and so approachable. She did a very thorough examination of my husband's complex eye conditions, explained recommended next steps and provided a specialist recommendation who she works in conjuction with. Overall excellent visit.
Every time I come to this location, it's a great experience. The front desk ladies Alyssa, Christina, and Izzy were sooooo nice and accommodating. I usually see Dr. Johnston, but for my emergency visit they got me in quickly with Dr. Francesca Musto, who was amazing, listened to all my concerns, and knew exactly what to do. Such a great office! Thank you!!!
The doctors and front desk are great. The sales lady made an adjustment on my son's glasses and realized later in the day the same arm was cracked. I left a message and never got a phone call back. I decided to go there and she knew why we were there but came over to us as if she never got the message. Long story short she denied cracking his glasses and then tried to sell me new ones and said his $300 and one year glasses could use an upgrade. She ended up giving us new frames because she knew she broke them but wouldn't admit it. I won't go back there because of her.
The staff are professional without being impersonal. All of the procedures that make for an annual exam are without discomfort. An enormous selection of frames gives each patient/client an opportunity to properly select one comfortable for themselves. I need further treatment for cataracts and received recommendations for providers near me. Everything necessary provided with care.
I was charged $225 for routine eye exam. I asked in advance the cost and was told they charge $225 which is a bit more than the opthamalogist charges, because they are opticians, not docs, so medicare doesn't provide the coverage. I paid $225 at time of my visit. (Dr. Johnston is very nice.) I asked for a detailed receipt of the visit at payment, and was told they couldn't provide one but to keep the little charge card strip of paper from their machine as my receipt. A few days ago I received my Medicare summary. Opsin charged Medicare $240 of which they received reimbursement of $137. So they now have $377 dollars for a routine exam. I spoke with billing who says this is their normal procedure. There was no full disclosure when I asked how much the visit was, and their taking advantage of seniors and Medicare is unsettling. In addition, I needed one lense in my eyeglasses updated. I was then told I had to update both for $720 which I paid. Three times the glasses were made wrong and I was told I'd get a refund by check, not to my original credit card method of payment. The check never came, so I called and I was told it was sent. When it still didn't come, I was told it would be 'resent' ... hmmm if they sent it why would they re-send it? Sometime after that I received a refund check ... unsigned. Not a good look.
