Summit Eye & Optical

Stay away from this place if you plan to get eyeglasses. I didn't see the doctor so I can't comment on him, but the staff -- especially the older lady -- were extremely unprofessional and had a bad attitude. I came in with my prescription from another doctor and my own frame (since they don't carry high-end brands). I chose this place only because they work with Zeiss lenses and are in-network. I even called ahead to confirm they'd accept an order just for lenses. At first, everything seemed fine -- the staff member assured me she'd order the "best lenses" for me. Later that day, I realized they never mentioned the brand, so I called back to check. As I suspected, they hadn't ordered Zeiss at all, but lenses from a lab I'd never heard of. I requested they switch to Zeiss and asked for specifics. Instead of giving me a clear answer, the lady said the lens index would be a range and "whichever is available" instead of the exact number. When I pressed for clarification (knowing Zeiss's high index is 1.74), she became defensive and angry, claiming she didn't know and "every lense has different index." I was confused and simply asked her to verify, but instead she turned it around, asked if I was happy with their service, and when I said I just wished for clearer communication, she abruptly told me to come pick up my frame and that they'd cancel my order. A complete waste of my time -- though I'd rather walk away than spend hundreds on lenses that weren't what I asked for. If you like the doctor, maybe see him for an exam, but I strongly recommend going elsewhere for eyeglasses. There are far better, more professional places out there.

I've been going to Summit Eye & Optical for years. Dr Seiler and his staff are fantastic, the exams are top notch and lenses are made on premises. The frame option is fantastic, they make an effort to support smaller, indie brands along with the well known ones.

Excellent experience. Dr. Seiler is a trustworthy optometrist; his knowledge and personality have earned our loyalty for the past decade. He conducts thorough eye exams and explains with great patience. His high-end equipment earns him an extra star in this review. Dr. Seiler stocks some stylish frames; his sophisticated suggestions draws me and my family to his store year after year. His staff is knowledgeable and courteous. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a terrific doctor.

I have been a patient of Dr. Seiler's for many years. He is one of the nicest doctors I know. He is very personable and easy to talk to. He listens, takes his time and always answers all of my questions, providing as much information as possible to ensure that I understand. He is extremely knowledgeable and provides excellent care. I have great confidence in his abilities. I highly recommend Dr. Seiler.

Serious lapses: Have reported this practice to BBB and to FTC for serious material lapses in their practice. These reports are under review. Personal experience: 1. Visit this practice if you want the office manager to be irritated at you, upset at you and condescending towards your queries. 2. They are super pushy - will sell under emotional manipulation of "support us we are local business". But they provide no warranty of broken frames, no support for missing orders. 3. Upon follow-ups - you will again be met with the rude and always upset office manager. 4. It's a normal practice for online retailers to validate prescription with doctor. In my case retailer couldn't validate and when I walked in person- they said to upload photo myself. Again that was said rudely. Do yourself a favour - visit Costco optical if you want good support and to be treated with respect.

Horribly unethical place! They don't care about patients and their well-being. Their only goal is to charge your insurance and balance bill you for the services you have never consented to. The receptionist lady is super unprofessional and rude. As a resident of Summit, I have never experienced such a low level of customer service and lack of respect for customers. Please take your business elsewhere and save yourself the aggravation. I am still upset about the fact that they made me pay $275 for the exam that was supposedly not covered by my insurance plan after the eye exam had been already performed on me. She had a clear understanding that this benefit was not covered by my plan as she had printed out my coverage information prior to the exam but never mentioned that I would be responsible for the $275 copay. She mentioned another tiny copay to me ($30) prior to the exam but then balance billed me after I had my eyes checked. I had to spend 40 mins on the phone with my insurance company to get to the bottom of this and as a result I was late for my next appointment. Words cannot describe how upset I am, I really feel like she knew what she was doing and her objective was to take advantage of me.

Dr. Seiler is unprofessional & unkind. My experience at Summit Eye & Optical was the most bizarre I have ever had with a medical professional. He was condescending, threatning, & non explanatory! I went for a contact lens exam & left with him refusing to give me my prescription for lenses. He claimed I needed a "treatment plan" which he said I could pay him out of pocket for, as they do not take my medical insurance. I had requested I'd like a second opinion before deciding to use his services as it was my first time seeing him. His tone was aggravated & all over the place while trying to make his point to me. Bringing up personal information about himself that was unneeded to be shared. While leaving he requested the front desk charge me a fee of 125$ for his 10 minute exam, even after refusing to give me my prescription. He made me feel very nervous & I just wanted out of there!! I am in the process of filing a complaint to the Medical board of New Jersey. Truly a terrible & uncomfortable experience there! Wouldn't recommend him or Summit Eye & Optical to anyone!

I bought a new pair of glasses last year, nice titanium frames, progressive lenses, and that in itself was a very pleasant experience , especially with Doctor Seiler, very professional , funny and welcoming,and a great guitar player. But when I acccidentally broke the frame at home, I was pretty upset. Well, we went back to the store and they fixed them for free, in less than an hour. No questions asked. Great service thanks ! You made my day!
