Eye Care in Hauppauge (Stahl Eyecare Experts)

The doctor and medical staff were great, in and out of my appointment quickly, clean, nice office. I was told about a copay when I got there which is completely normal, but when I asked for my prescription after the appointment they said I had to pay an additional $50 for it which was the weirdest thing. I paid for it because I needed it, but won't be going back here again. I felt like they tricked or scammed me and I left with a terrible feeling.

10review for Dr Werner and his friendly staff. I unexpectedly had developed a chalazion on my upper right eyelid at the time of my LASIK touch up consultation. Dr Werner was an incredible help, prescribed the proper eye drops and saw me back a week later to treat this nuisance of a cyst. The procedure was painless with significant improvement once drained. Dr Werner and his staff were compassionate and professional, exceeding patient satisfaction and care. I will be back to see Dr Werner to proceed forward with the LASIK touch up as I trust this doctor for his expertise and quality care. Thanks Dr Werner, you are The Best!Diana

UPDATE: I received a call from the office manager at OCLI with apologies for all of the confusion and that I should have been better informed by the staff of the copays, fees, etc., and how I should have been given my prescription right then and there. They mailed my eyeglass prescription to me at no additional cost. Big thank you to the office manager, they didn't have to do any of that. Much appreciated. THEY WANTED A $50 COPAY TO GIVE ME EYEGLASSES PRESCRIPTION, ON TOP OF THE $50 SPECIALIST COPAY FOR THE APPOINTMENT. Ask questions, get all the facts regarding fees, copays, etc. They are no longer Stahl Eyecare of Hauppauge, according to the woman at the front, they are now OCLI. This review has no bearing on the eye doctor that saw me, he's a wonderful eye doctor, and he's the only reason why they get one star. I finally got vision benefits and was able to go to my eye doctor, who I haven't seen in 8 years (been paying out of pocket at Costco since then, see more on that later in this review.) I made an appointment for a regular vision exam, I confirmed the appointment, and the $10 copay for a normal, regular, eye exam for glasses and/or contacts. When I got there, the copay amount was $50 because my eye doctor is considered a specialist now, and the copay is higher. I figured he was my eye doctor in the past, I really like him, and so if there's more tests that he needs to do, so be it. After I pay the $50 copay (big mistake), I received the tests, exam, etc., I go to get my eyeglass prescription printout from the front desk, and they proceed to tell me that it's ANOTHER $50 copay for them to give me my prescription. The reason being that it was under medical because he's considered a specialist. I could have sworn that they are required to give you your prescription if you ask for it, I've never had to pay for it in the past, ever, regardless of if it's under medical/eye. Ask all the questions before you get there. The woman that made the appointment for me should have told me that the copay to see this particular doctor (whom I like, and enjoyed going to), is not $10, it's $50, and that to receive my prescription would have been another $50. I would have balked at those amounts and questioned it all right then and there, and most likely changed to a different doctor in that office for the regular exam with a $10 copay and no fees to get my prescription. Ask all the questions before you pay a dime. Honestly, if you want no hassles, and can do so, pay out of pocket at Costco. You get your eye exam, they step out of the room and come back with your eyeglass prescription printed out for you; same with the contacts exams, or both if you're doing both. At the end of the day, I'd rather pay more at Costco, BJ's, Sam's Club, etc., to get my eye prescriptions hassle free, then deal with OCLI ever again. ASK QUESTIONS, DON'T PAY UNTIL YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE PAYING FOR!

After wearing glasses my entire life and my wife encouraging me I finally decided to get a consultation for lasik correction surgery. I arrived to my appointment ten minutes early only to wait 45 minutes to be seen. Then after a few screenings and tests I met the doctor who explained the lasik process to me. I was concerned about my eligibility with my high pressure in my eyes. I was reassured that I can absolutely get the procedure. So they took their "lasik measurements" and charged me 100$. So I expected to schedule the surgery. After I paid I was informed that I need to come back for a "follow up" to check my pressure after using their prescribed eye drops before a surgery can be scheduled. I had to retake numerous tests and screenings during these "follow ups" because they misplaced the results from prior visits. After 5-6 visit ( I can't remember exactly how many times I went back) which I was charged a copay and insurance was billed everytime and saw the doctor for all of about 1 minute at most just to tell me my eye pressures were good, I got so disgusted and aggravated i decided not to pursue the surgery with this facility. It got to the point I was back there for the requested "follow ups" so frequently that the assistant who took me in the back asked "what are you doing back here? Weren't you just here?" To which I replied "that's a good question". Imagine if I had complications? They would charge me every follow up. This company is all about money. I know doctor practices are businesses but this was a whole new level. I could never trust my eye sight to a practice run like this. Paying co pay after co pay after co pay for what was to be an elective surgery is not right. Especially after I paid for the procedure in full. This entire experience with this practice was disappointing.

I got lasik at stahl eye center with Dr. Werner In January. I am so happy I did it. I see clearer than I ever have. Booking was easy. I did the consultation and then booked the lasik for a month later. The staff was very helpful. The procedure was quick and painless. Scheduling the follow up appointments was very easy and even when I had to reschedule, they were able to get me in quickly! I needed a letter for my flex spending and Dr. Werner and his staff got it to me right away. I am now trying to convince family members to get lasik since I am so happy with it. I highly recommend Dr. Werner and Stahl eyecare.

I had PRK with Dr. Werner over 12 years ago, and it was truly the best decision I've ever made. My vision is still 20/20, and the entire experience--from consultation to recovery--was smooth and easier than I expected. Years later, when I needed an oculoplastic surgeon for a dark spot in my eye, I didn't hesitate to return to Dr. Werner. That procedure went just as well, with excellent care every step of the way and great results. Everything--from insurance coverage to scheduling and follow-up--was seamless for both surgeries. I've since referred many people to Stahl Eye Center, and everyone has been thrilled with their results. If you're on the fence about LASIK, go for it! You'll be in great hands, and there's nothing better than waking up every morning and seeing clearly without glasses or contacts.

They are on my medical plan. Said $40 co-pay for the eye exam. After eye exam they said giving me a copy of my results was NOT covered, and would be $50 more. In 50 years of eye exams this never happened. Seems to me it is blackmail just to get my exam results so I can get new glasses. Just like a surgeon saying he completed the operation, but there is an extra fee just to sew you back up. I am done with this place. I got tricked. You don't have to.

Dr. Hufnagel has the worst bedside manner. I'm about 18 months out from my surgery and he forced my hand to change doctors because I kept coming in for emergency appointments with corneal abrasions. He said I was damaging the eye myself in my sleep. I went to a corneal specialist and they prescribed me some heavy duty eye drops to clear up the dryness and viola good as new.
