Walmart Vision & Glasses

Dr. Linda Brandon has been with the Kingston Walmart Vision team since 1999. I first met her several years ago when I was considering getting just one contact for reading since my far vision was perfect. (I was just tired of having to use readers and keeping them on top of my head so I could find them.) She was very helpful and truthful explaining to me that drugstore readers were the best solution for me because my vision, except for reading was perfect and since I wasn't used to having anything in front of my eyes, except for reading, I would not really like having a contact. She said that only when forced into a corner to have contacts or daily eyeglasses would I want them. So I stuck with readers until I got older and the far vision was no longer perfect. At that point I had Vision Insurance for the first time and went to a competing vision store. It was o.k., but pricey (even with insurance because of a high deductible). The glasses were good, but the lens cracked. So I purchased a second pair, but the frame broke. This time I went back to Walmart (no longer had vision insurance). The front of store staff helped me to find a frame that fit my perfectly good lenses, inserted them into the new frame, and all for only $50.00!! (the staff that helped me was previously from the competing vision store!) I recently returned to Walmart to have my eyes rechecked. Dr. Linda Brandon was the optometrist again. I explained that I had been cleaning my glasses daily with Zeiss lens cleaner or a lens wipe, but it was still difficult to see out of them. I was worried that the AR film was going bad. She explained that the best thing to do was to wash the lenses with Dawn dishwashing liquid once a day to remove all oils. Voila, now I can see clearly. I can honestly say that even if I did have vision insurance, I would still choose this Walmart location because of Dr. Linda Brandon! She is thorough, and she patiently and kindly explains everything that they are doing. She also only dilates the eyes if medically necessary! She gives top notch advice and is not at all pushy. Five Stars!!! Highly Recommend!! The staff were also lovely on the day I visited. (Susanna and Shanae - spelling not guaranteed) Knowledgeable and patient.

Dr. Lortie is great, but Walmart engages in the bad business practice of withholding your health information (in this case your PD measurement) in order to force you to only ever get frames from them. This is common practice, apparently, and also illegal.

4 months later [too late to return] the prescription, the glasses, horrible! I gave my eyes time to adjust, but yeah, no. Blurry. Have to move my head too much to get even somewhat clear. TWO pairs, $600, down the tube. My old prescription and glasses are way better. Dang. Walmart. Never again. But nice people, easy scheduling, no wait. Maybe the no wait thing should've been a red flag.

Nasty staff yelling at me on phone re: pricing and appointment scheduling. I will NEVER go there again. Get another job if you cannot treat your patients with respect. No one needs to raise their voice at me like that at 9am.

The Doctor here is great, the staff not so much. I have been a customer for seven years and the service has deteriorated drastically. I felt as if I was in the High school lunch room while in the front of the store listening to the staff's social hour. The only helpful and welcoming staff member was Deborah. The manager, Melissa is rude and condescending. She behaves as though she is doing you a huge favor. When its time for the staff to actually do their job they become cold and rude. Crystal has the personality of a paper towel. She was told by the doctor to give me a prescription and a note. I reminded her twice. She did not give these to me and I had to remind her again after check out. She of course had an attitude. I wouldn't be returning. Good luck, if you want horrible customer service head on over here to listen to their social hour.

I have been wearing glasses for 40 years and never had such a thorough exam as this one. The doctor was great and actually explained everything to me and never felt rushed. Very professional and friendly staff and looking forward to picking out new frames

Went in for a pair of frames and lenses. I had my script with me. The first woman had no problem as my insurance has $350 limit I could literally get anyones I wanted. She left some other girl came in and refused me. She said my script was a year old although according to my insurance and the doc it was good for 3 years. The worst part was I was really happy to finally be getting a decent pair of glasses and you could literally see she was getting some sort of joy of waiting until everyone else was gone and then denying me because I guess it made her feel good on some level. Checked with my insurance company again when I got home. They apparently had put in a prior auth and it was approved already. She had no right to turn me away and they are going to be investigated by uhg. Good luck with that.
