I have been a patient here for 2-3 years now, treating issues that have arose from diabetes. A few minor hiccups in billing and handling of questions over the years, but overall this has been a good experience and I appreciate you all very much. Many of the staff are friendly and willing to take part in chit chat, which helps people with the anxiety of it all. Their process when administering eye injections has been by far the least invasive and most comfortable of all experiences I've had. I can't speak for all of their doctors, but Doctor Choudhury has been an absolute blessing, and I appreciate him very much. His demeanor, patience, willingness to answer questions, and clarity when explaining things is unmatched. Thank you all so much for what you do.
I experienced about 3 years of injections, which ultimately ended up with receiving two vitrectomies to hopefully stabilize things more than the injections were. Both surgeries went well, a little more pain with the first one due to more complications in that eye. The second one was honestly barely painful during the recovery. I received my first surgery in October of 2024, and the second one August of 2025. Crouse Hospital, although a little outdated, was a comfortable place to have these surgeries done. They also have great staff there as well. I know it may not always be positive and sunshine moving forward with this, but you all have my appreciation and faith when it comes to handling this.
Retired Nurse 45 years surgical nurse. What we encounter day after day when the attending, the anesthetist, the nurse & the Surgeon, each patient is required to sign papers allowing the Surgeons etc to perform the procedure and educating each patient on what could go wrong but most importantly the patient is asked " do you understand why u are having this procedure?" 99.9% answer " I guess so, my doctor ordered it!" It's alarming. So The reviews, so many people concentrated on if " the doctor was friendly if the office was clean etc."
what about the actual procedures? That is most significant when writing a review about medical procedures. It's alarming that many reviews found it most important to rate the cleanliness & the doctors bedside manners. not to many actually commented on any surgical procedures anyone has had & if the procedure helped with vision loss & how long it took before eyesight improved.
Its disappointing.for example: Far to many patients visit their doctors & when reviewing the medications prescribed so many say " oh the pink pill or orange pill etc." when asked " do u understand why Doc prescribed it?" The overall answers are " Idk I just do what doc says"
All of this that I have written has absolutely nothing to do with offending anyone
It has everything to do with:
1-Doctors order medications for a problem your body is having whether it be your eyes, bowels, liver, pancreas etc etc after orders testings are reviewed proving you need a particular medication to help the issue.
2- after that visit the primary responsibility is on the patient to stay healthy " there's no magic pill that a doctor suggests " here take this pill every day and you will be fine, it will go away ""
Before visiting a Doctor you have to educate yourself on all conditions you are dealing with so you know exactly what to ask in regard to why u r there. Otherwise you set yourself up to becoming one of many people making comments to friends & family or writing a review that is based on BS cause if u don't educate yourself then you have no business giving your opinion based on what??? So come on people stop being so naive seriously " I do what ever doc says" without a lick of knowledge as to why.
It's Your Body It's 100% your responsibility to educate yourself. It's your responsibility to be knowledgeable on exactly why Doc order tests and bloodwork, scans, mri's etc etc..,
I visited Dr. Patrick Oellers, MD for the second time today. On both visits he did not wear gloves neither did he wash his hands in front of me. On my 2nd visit I asked him if he wore gloves, he said "not usually for this part," then he proceeded to put eye drops and gave me a needle in my eye never putting on gloves. He was upset that I asked him to wear gloves and stormed out of the office looking back at me and saying nothing. He was very unprofessional and obviously does not care about the safety of his patients. I suggest anyone assigned to him report these habits as the company website would not allow me to post my review on it.
Update!
After speaking with managed care and checking in with the person who accompanied me, it appears that Dr. Oellers put on gloves only when he gave me the injection. However, he placed the instrument to keep my eye open and the drops without gloves. I still stand by the fact that more sanitary practices should occur because liquid exchanges are occuring when he places the eye opening stabilizer in your eyes and if hand washing has not occurred in front of you, you still do not know what is entering your eye. His demeanor was still shrewd and not pleasant.
But great service from manage care and the front desk receptionist who assisted me.
on Oct 22, 2025 I was with my elderly mother for her first visit to this office for what I was told would be an eye injection. We had a couple different guys performing some testing and asking questions. We were then brought to the waiting room. While in the waiting room, Mom wanted some water. I retrieved a bottle of water for her. While drinking the water, one of the girls came to where we were and was to bring us to a room to wait for the doctor. I told the girl I couldn't wheel Mom to the room (Mom uses a wheelchair) because I'm still recovering from a surgery, she whipped the wheelchair in reverse while Mom was still drinking her water. Mom started cooking, so the girl stopped and just stared. I told her to go and get a towel because Mom was spitting up and needed to cough up more, the girl was like, "Who Are You?". I identified myself as Moms son. Other than this young girl, the visit went well. Mom recovered after 10 minutes or so.The facility is clean, Doctors are great. plenty of free parking.
Dr Oellers is a fine Dr. very professional and business like. The facility is clean and well maintained. I am not super thrilled with having a shot in my eye and I probably am very tense in doing so. I am givien a relaxant by my General MD if I take a whole pill I fall asleep. If I take a half I'm still sleepy. This time I took 1/4 - not as good. Also this time a blood vessel was hit when given the shot and blood is all red in my eye. It looks horrendous and at times there is a sharp pain in the eye. Not constant but occasional. First time this has happened. I got the impression Dr was in a hurry. He is definitely a person of few words but I think they all are there as I had previously had Dr Seth and he was non-talkative also.
My first visit was a difficult one. I am currently receiving shots. I can not wear contacts because I can touch my eyes. I was extremely nervous. I have now been 5 times and I no longer am nervous! The staff is helpful and informative. Dr Seth is wonderful and I am thankful to have him. A big thank you to doctors and staff!
I cannot overstate the esteem with which I hold this practice! I have been a patient of Dr. Rutledge for about a year and his astounding expertise has, effectively, saved the vision in my right eye. And, has done this with warm amiability, ease, and compassion. Years ago I was treated by Dr. Brown, about whom I would offer the same accolades. Their support staff (from receptionists to nurses and techs is, across the board, really quite amazing. We of CNY have to be inexpressibly grateful that this practice is within our community!!
The entire team at RVS is fantastic. I've been a patient of Dr Browns for about 6 months and the team is always courteous, professional and on point. They initially scheduled emergency surgery for me within hours of my diagnosis fir a detached retina. I've been very impressed with this team.
