The experience and care you get when finding glasses that are just for you is unmatched! I'm so grateful for this eye doctor and his amazing wife and staff! I also got sunnies :)
Dr. Schenker is a great eye doctor, very caring; takes the time to find out what best suits his patients. My issue lies with his staff. I've been treated with disrespect and contempt. If your insurance doesn't pay out a lot, or you can't afford to come out of pocket with a generous amount of money, they will look down their noses at you and treat you like a peasant.
At first, I was told by Rosalind that I have a "very low frame allowance." My insurance covers $150 for frames. In my experience, at other optometrist offices, this amount is decent coverage. At Schenker, they only offer luxury brand frames. Nothing below $300. This should have been my first red flag. Then I met with Chris would was uber dismissive when I told her I knew that my insurance covered the retina mapping. She swore up and down there was no way that could be true. Feeling like they would double check what my coverage is at the end, I let it go. As I said, I met with Dr. Schenker and he was great. He took the time to get to know me and understand my needs.
I then met with the woman who sells the frames. Like I said, every frame they offer is a luxury brand. I opted to have my new lenses put in my "old" frames. When I let the lady know, she practically rolled her eyes at me and made sure to let me know they wouldn't be liable if the frames broke during the process of putting the new lenses in. Which I understand is standard business practice; it was more her scoffing tone that was off-putting.
At checkout I was told my bill was hundreds over what I anticipated. At no point during the visit did anyone opt to inform me what coverage I have and what would be out of pocket. Even when they told me what I owed for the day there was no real description of what I was paying for and why. They charged me for a part of the exam that was covered by my insurance because they neglected to take the time to actually read my coverage and discuss things with me. The reason my out of pocket was so high is because I wanted to discuss contacts and a new prescription for glasses. At no point did anyone think to let me know that only one of those services would be covered. They took away my ability to choose what's best for my budget.
The icing on the cake; I called recently to place an order for contacts. I wanted to know how much my plan covers. The contacts Dr. Schenker gave me are dailies. They're $150 a month, so $1,800 for a year supply. I asked if there was another, more affordable option. I tell her I'm a single mom, I really can't afford to spend that kind of money on contacts. I was told I would need to come into see the doctor. I expressed that my work schedule doesn't really permit that and asked if I could speak with him over the phone. Rosalind put me on hold and someone else picked up. They said "so what time can you come in tomorrow?" I told her I can't, gave her the same information I gave to Rosalind. I get put on hold again. Rosalind picks up the phone, "ok so Dr. Sam will do a quick phone call with you." I say okay, great. I'm asking if I can get a ballpark of time of day. My cell phone doesn't have great service at work. I want to give my work number. This woman is exasperated and can hardly hold her contempt for me. I'm just asking clarifying questions so I can give the appropriate information. She then hangs up on me. I call back and ask what happened and she says the phone call ended (weird).. I explain to her I was only asking clarifying questions to give the correct information. She then cuts me off and says very tersely, "so give the work number!" I do, and ask if she knows when he might call. I tell her if he's going to call today, I'm no longer at work. Hence the need for these questions and answers. She then says "I'm going to end this call. This is an extremely busy practice and we have lots of other people to help." It felt like the subtext of that was "we're too busy to help someone who is under a certain income level." She is extremely rude, dismissive, and unhelpful. But hey, if you're rich, this is the place for you!
Dr Schenker and his team are great. He takes time with you making sure your prescription is accurate, he explains things and answers your questions. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. I'm glad I went there!
Dr Schenker and his entire staff are very caring and their service is fantastic! They make everything seamless from the examine to choosing the right frames for your face. Laura is wonderful - she really goes above and beyond to make sure you not only like your frames but love them. They have the most exclusive designer frames to choose from. Everyone there is just the best!
Dr. Schenker and his entire staff are the absolutely the best! I have been going to him since I was in middle school and I can't imagine going to anyone else! He was grandmother's eye doctor years ago as well and I've witnessed how amazing he is with all ages, having a true passion for his profession, and takes the time to get to know his patients in such a caring way! The office is run so efficiently and they are a great team!
My entire family went for our eye exams. The team in the office were friendly and the exams were thorough. They accommodated my request for the 3 consecutive appointments with ease. The clinic was clean and really nice. Would definitely recommend.
Visiting Dr. Schenker's practice was a GREAT experience! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by a bunch of smiling faces. I was impressed by Dr. Schenker's advanced equipment and his thorough approach to making sure I got the most accurate diagnosis possible. He was genuinely personable, which is very important to me. I can't wait to go back!
Dr. Sam is friendly and helpful in all aspects of his practice. His staff is welcoming and knowledgeable. Can't wait to get my new glasses! Would recommend him every time!
