My husband had his second cataract surgery at this center
Previous cataract surgery was done in Manhattan which I was very satisfied from Nurses to receptionist on the contrary to this office , here the experience with receptionist was not as expected first no greeting, just have a seat after an hour calls my husband just for signing of paperwork
When ask what time the surgery would start she had no clue
No answer ! After him signing all the paperwork it was just another have a seat your name will be called .!!
Upon completion of his surgery no nurse came out to speak to me my husband just came out with a sheet of instructions.
Now since the office had made arrangements for transportation he had to wait until another patient was finished because the driver could not just take one patient .
That is so inconsiderate.
When a patient has surgery what that patient wants is to go home and rest not hang around and office especially him being a diabetic, and not had anything to
Eat or drink since 8am , it's very inconsiderate.
Finally my husband and I was able to leave this office
After 4pm
Honestly this office deserves zero stars
Not because of doctors , however because of incompetence of front desk management.
We had a scheduled cat Hera surgery for 6:45am. The anesthesiologist had covid so they called to reschedule for later in the morning 10am. Then I was called again and was told to come in for the afternoon (2:00pm). Well since I had to take off the rest of the day, I had to go to my new job to go find someone to cover my afternoon shift since they were going to do it in the afternoon. My phone had died and they state they called over 8 time because Dr Dean Polistina came in before 2pm and needed us to come in earlier. But since my phone was dead I didn't get any of the calls. So now after this was scheduled for weekend, then hours before it was rescheduled we were told to go home and reschedule because the doctor came earliest the scheduled time and we did not pick up the phone. Like dude you could have maybe waited for the patient at her scheduled time. Super unprofessional will be reporting this unprofessional and uncoordinated "doctor" and facility anywhere and to everyone who would do something about this.
I am writing this review at 7:28am after dropping my off at 7:15am for surgery on 6/10/2020. I rarely leave reviews even after receiving poor service. However, the reception crew at this establishment is utterly horrible.
The first nurse had an attitude and a half on her. She was extremely rude and unhelpful. She refused to let us talk and all she barked was "YOU JUST NEED YOUR INSURANCE CARD".
After being shouted at for a few minutes, by her, I was told to call the office so they can have my number on file.
So I called and was met by another gem. This one was worse than the first. While trying to explain why I was calling, I was cut off mid sentence by the receptionist talking to me like I was a 5 year old with special needs.
Never have I witnessed such anger and hostility from multiple employees in a very short period of time! It is beyond my comprehension how you can be so sour at 7:15am. Especially if you are in a role that should be focused on making the patient and their family members feel as comfortable as humanly possible.
I would like to rate this reception crew negative 5 stars because they have mastered the art of incompetence.
As said in previous reviews, the receptionist was less than helpful. You don't get a clear answer as to how long it takes. They told us it would be 2 hours after you received drops until you are taken in for surgery. Meanwhile, we waited 1.5 hours for the drops and the surgery was immediately after.
You don't see the dr after the surgery and although they say the nurse will chat with the family. Yet, thus far the answer everyone got is "instructions are on the paper". How do they know if you have additional questions.
My husband had his second cataract surgery thus morning and the receptionist greeted us with a smile. She handled his registration with professionalism and he was told to wait for further instructions. About 5 minutes later he was taken in to recheck the measurements for his right eye that was being operated on today. Outside again for about five minutes and once again Beverly had him come back for the first steps and I appreciated being allowed to come back with him. When this initial process was done it did not take long for him to be recalled to get prepped for surgery. We were there for about 2 hours but what I really appreciated is that his nurse did apprise me of the fact that he was in surgery and I was called back to the surgery exam room to hear the instructions and then she walked him out. All in all it was a stressful experience that turned out to be no stressful. This eye surgery center gets high marks from this radio host, author, magazine creator and educator.
Thank you for making me smile and taking such good care of Jeff.
Fran Lewis just reviews, mj network, mj magazine
Had an appointment waited 2 hours for him to see me I complained to the nurse that the wait was outrageous. When he finally came in he told me I had something wrong with my cornea. I asked if there was an operation to fix it. He told me no nothing he knew if but if I wanted to check something experimental, I left petrified. I went to a cornea specialist . Did tests a number of tests. Nothing wrong with my cornea. Nothing. Maybe he didn't like that I complained about the wait. Stay away from this guy. Scary to think that he is still in practice.
Took my 78 yr old mom for cataract extraction for both eyes . The receptionist had a lil attitude so did I . The nurses & the drs that treated my mom are great she felt comfortable she was treated with high respect, once my mom went in for surgery she was treated gently, all the instructions were easy to follow . I would recommend this place to anyone who need the surgery for your eyes. It's a clean n covid savy safe place .
My husband had two surgeries at this facility. His regular ophthalmologist Dr. Paul Rutkowski attended. Dr. Dean Polistina performed the surgeries.
Drs. Rutkowski and Polistina, I hope that you are reading this. It's not good enough to be a great surgeon when your support staff is so dreadfully and abysmally deficient, rude and disorganized. The poor treatment we received from staff at this facility was consistently atrocious during both visits. I can forgive anyone, once, for having a bad day but given the terrible treatment during our second visit, the only reasonable assumption is that this hideous behavior is typical. Should the time come for me to have a surgery, rest assured I will secure services elsewhere.
The receptionist does not acknowledge anyone upon entry. Rather, she points right and states "Sit there." Anyone who sat elsewhere was scolded. Anytime anyone asks a question, the receptionist and whoever is sitting with her eye rolls, sighs and decides whether (or not) to answer. In a waiting room full of grumbling and stressed patients, after waiting for 2 hours with no updates whatsoever my husband asked for an update, was scolded like a child and every person on line behind him received an eye roll and an apology for his "bad" behavior. Billing is a mess. I repeatedly heard people explain in detail that they'd asked, in detail, and complied only to be told by these same reception staffers that the information was incorrect and that they'd have to return with additional money. The bathroom is consistently dirty and also seems to be unheated. The television blares, despite repeated requests to lower the volume. Prior to surgery and during surgery, no one spoke to my husband - they did however discuss lunch selections in exhausting detail. My husband was over medicated for the second procedure and sent home while still slurring his words. The follow up "care" call was a voicemail message that indicated a name, the practice name and a request to call back with any issues - however no telephone number was given. We are very fortunate to be in good health. However, for those patients who are in poor health or live alone, choosing this facility is treatment at your own risk.
This is not rocket science. This is basic patient care. This is common courtesy. The administrative staff at the Eye Surgery Center of Westchester clearly do not have the capacity to care for or pay courtesy to their patients, for whom the work.
Those are highlights of our recent experiences. It got worse and is worse. Be wary of this facility. The doctors may be wonderful but if the patient care is lacking, it's not just an uncomfortable situation, it's a dangerous situation.
