Stony Brook Ophthalmology

This facility operates with systematic disrespect for patient time. Management herded 32 patients into a waiting room, fully aware of a 2-hour backlog. This raises a question of basic logic: If you are running 2 hours behind, why continue to schedule morning appointments? The double standard is glaring. A patient arriving 2 hours late would be turned away, yet the clinic demands we accommodate their failure to manage a schedule. Even if the 2 hour estimate given by the receptionist was acceptable, my experience is that patients need to wait about 2.5 hours to be seen by an opthalmologist. I had to cancel work meetings and other urgent medical treatments because of this. This amounts to operational incompetence and contempt for patients and working professionals.

The office called me today as I need a follow-up appointment and I missed the call. Tried to call back twice. First time, there were 8 callers ahead of me. I tried back at a later time and had 4 callers ahead of me, so I decided to hold. I was down to one caller a head, and then I was disconnected. I called back and there were 8 callers ahead of me, so I hung up. Not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling from this office. I hope this does not reflect the quality of the doctors or I will be going somewhere else. Hopefully, they call me again.

The absolute worst place to call, I was on hold for 21 minutes. First I was told there was going to be an hour wait and only 6 people ahead of me, then the line start ringing and only 5 people ahead with a 16 minute wait. It rang again and now said the wait time was 32 minutes. I finally got ahold of someone she said hello and hung up told me to call back. There's a reason why this place has 2.0 star rating and the hospital recommends people to come here is absolutely ridiculous.

Never had a doctor go so above and beyond for me like Dr Gorgani did! Everyone in the office was so nice and it was very comforting to have such kind people and a Doctor who did everything he possibly could.

I scheduled an appointment for my child and had to wait over 20 minutes just to speak to someone on the phone. After a 3-month wait, the office canceled twice--without offering any real solution--and the next available appointment was another month later. That's a total of 5 months waiting for basic eye care. Absolutely unacceptable. This office is disorganized, unreliable, and shows a complete lack of respect for patients' time and needs.

I've never been so frustrated trying to make a doctor's appointment. I was referred to Dr. Honkanen and have now called multiple times, only to spend over an hour on hold--twice--before being disconnected each time just as it was finally my turn. The only reason I even tried a second time was because of the referral, but this experience has been beyond disappointing. For a hospital with Stony Brook's reputation, this is simply unacceptable. Patients and their families deserve better than being left on hold indefinitely with no answers and no resolution. This is not the level of service anyone should expect from a reputable medical institution. What a joke.

What an insult to medicine if a doctor cannot spare 5 minutes to check my baby daughter's eye for an emergency appointment due to their full schedule. I explained on the phone that she had wooden chips stuck in her eye, and the response was "we cannot fit you in, you should find an ER".

Competent medical treatment but abysmal patient services. Instead of using the efficient Patient Portal system that most doctors use at SBU- ophthalmology use a defective knock-off, they haven't hired enough staff to cover their phones and their voicemail system for leaving messages for specific doctors is broken. Clearly, this practice doesn't want to be contacted by patients. That said when you reach the staff or doctors they are very nice & knowledgable.
